The old doctor sighed. "Little girl, Iâve never encountered a condition like your fatherâs. However, based on my experience, I predict the affliction in his leg will spread. Iâm afraid it wonât be long before it reaches the base of his thigh. At that point, his life could be in danger!"
"What... what do you mean, Doctor?"
Li Yanyan was the same age as Xiaosuisui and couldnât understand much of the literal meaning.
So, she asked in confusion.
Xiaosuisui, however, had spent a few days handling medicinal herbs with Ji Youran and had also read some of the medical books he carried with him.
Hearing Li Yanyanâs question, she answered without hesitation.
"If the affliction has not yet spread to the base of his thigh, can we save his life by amputating his leg now to prevent the affliction from spreading?"
The little girlâs sudden interjection caused an uproar.
Hearing the familiar voice, Li Yanyan couldnât help but look up at Li Suisui. Her gaze fell upon a black veil.
"Suisui... is that you?"
Li Yanyan wasnât entirely certain.
Zhu Xiuxiu, however, quickly covered Xiaosuisuiâs mouth before she could respond to Li Yanyan and carried her directly into the Pharmacyâs back room.
"Prescriptions are filled and patients are seen out front. The back room is not for receiving patients. Please leave, madam."
A pharmacy apprentice blocked Zhu Xiuxiu.
Zhu Xiuxiu didnât even glance at him, shouting, "Ji Youcheng, get out here! Quickly!"
A gust of wind swept past, and a man in black robes with a black veil over his face suddenly materialized before Zhu Xiuxiu and Xiaosuisui.
"Xiuxiu... you... what are you doing here?" Ji Youcheng stuttered, his voice laced with nervousness and a touch of fear.
"Have the patients outside sent away."
Seeing Ji Youcheng, her husband whom she hadnât seen in three years, Zhu Xiuxiu felt no sense of unfamiliarity. Her first words were to order him to send people away.
"Whatâs wrong? The condition of the person outside is quite strange. I think Second Brother would be very interested."
Ji Youran was a Divine Physician. He typically didnât attend to common ailments, but if there was a rare and complicated case, he would absolutely not miss it.
For example, take Ji Youlinâs eyes. Ji Youran studied them extensively and concluded that their Sixth Brother, Ji Youlin, had strained his eyes from constantly tinkering with his Mechanisms and Hidden Weapons. So, he developed some kind of anti-fatigue eye drops for him. After a few days of use, his eyes slowly improved.
"Donât tell me youâve already sent someone to call Second Brother."
Ji Youcheng nodded and reached out for Xiaosuisui, who was in Zhu Xiuxiuâs arms.
"So this is Suisui! Come, let Third Uncle hold you."
Xiaosuisui first glanced at Zhu Xiuxiu.
Zhu Xiuxiu allowed her to go into Ji Youchengâs embrace, then admonished him.
"You can hold her, but Iâm warning you: donât say anything inappropriate to her, and especially donât deliberately try to scare her. If she retorts bluntly without thinking, not even the heavens can save you!"
Hearing this, Ji Youcheng blinked. For a good while, he couldnât figure out why Zhu Xiuxiu would say such a thing.
As they were speaking, voices drifted in from outside.
"Mr. Ji, quickly, come and see! This patientâs symptoms are definitely a rare and complicated case, wouldnât you say?"
Zhu Xiuxiu was startled.
Second Brother arrived so quickly?
"Have someone inform Second Brother that this person is from the Li Family. Suisui just said that if this man wants to live, only amputating his legs can save his life. Let him consider it himself."
Ji Youchengâs face was etched with surprise upon hearing this, and he looked at Xiaosuisui in utter astonishment.
"Suisui, you understand medicine as well? Did you learn it from your Second Uncle?"
Xiaosuisui pondered for a moment. She and her Eldest Uncle had read a few books, after which her Eldest Uncle declared she had learned some incredible Illusion Technique. Later, after watching her Fourth Uncle practice martial arts, her Fourth Uncle claimed she had learned his exclusive secret technique. If reading a few of Second Uncleâs medical books counted as having learned Medical Skill, then Third Uncleâs words werenât wrong.
So she nodded. "Iâve read a few medical books personally written by Second Uncle. I suppose that counts as having studied it."
Upon hearing this, Ji Youchengâs mouth twitched.
Sheâs so young, yet she speaks so grandly! Reading a few medical books counts as having studied medicine? What a fantasy!
