Chapter 12: Better to Use Your Own Things

When no one was looking, Nina Jacobs took Ben Stone to the mall’s underground parking garage.

Although the entrances and exits of the garage were blocked by cars, it wasn’t a problem to walk through the middle.

Nina Jacobs gave Ben Stone a matching set of the same raincoat and protective suit she was wearing.

"Why do I have to wear this? My mom said someone would come pick me up in a car."

Ben Stone was a little disgruntled, but he put it on anyway.

"You’ll see when we get outside. Cars can’t get in at all. If you want to leave this place, your only choice is to follow me."

Nina Jacobs was starting to doubt whether Ben Stone could make it the rest of the way.

Her worries, as it turned out, were not unfounded.

After a great deal of effort, the two of them finally made it out of the garage, but Ben Stone refused to go any further after just a short distance.

The acid rain continued to pour down. Nina Jacobs spotted a few two-wheeled electric scooters that had fallen over by the side of the road and hurried over.

The scooters’ lights were still on, and the keys were still in the ignition. Nina Jacobs tested one and found it was perfectly rideable. She guessed the original owners must have abandoned their vehicles and fled.

This worked out conveniently for her and Ben Stone.

Nina Jacobs discovered that as long as she was moving through the acid rain, even riding an electric scooter didn’t affect her mission’s progress.

The center of the road was still choked with vehicles, but luckily, the scooter could navigate through some of the smaller side paths.

Out in the heavy rain, Nina Jacobs laughed aloud under her protective face shield.

The First Superpower Card—she had it!

Back at Daniel Hale’s house, Vera Coleman was scrolling through her phone, tears streaming down her face.

’It was so dangerous outside. Why on earth had I let my daughter go out and risk her life?’

’Nina had finally, after so much difficulty, started talking to me normally and was even willing to move in with me. Why did something like this have to happen?’

"Vera, please don’t cry. That girl, Nina, she’s sharp. She’ll definitely be alright."

Daniel Hale had always treated Vera Coleman the best, and now he was filled with immense regret that he hadn’t gone with Nina Jacobs.

If something really happened to Nina Jacobs, Vera Coleman would never forgive him.

"She’s back! That’s Nina Jacobs’s car!"

Leo Hale had been staring out the window. Even though he and Nina Jacobs didn’t get along, he didn’t want anything to happen to her. The moment he saw the SUV, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Nina Jacobs returned with Ben Stone.

The moment Jenna Sullivan saw Ben Stone, they both burst into tears.

After seeing the people in the room, Ben Stone dropped to his knees with a THUD in front of Daniel Hale.

"Uncle Hale, you’re my savior!"

Ben Stone’s words made Daniel Hale’s expression turn awkward.

’Nina Jacobs was clearly the one who had saved Ben Stone; I hadn’t done a thing!’

Nina Jacobs, who was being checked over by Vera Coleman, had no reaction when she heard this.

"Yes, yes, son, hurry and properly thank your Uncle Hale. From now on, while you’re getting by in City D, your Uncle Hale can look out for you."

Nanny Sullivan chimed in from the side.

"Nanny Sullivan, Nina was the one who saved your son. My dad didn’t do anything."

Leo Hale couldn’t stand it anymore. He was even starting to regret letting Nina Jacobs take this risk.

People like Ben Stone were the type he and his buddies looked down on the most.

"Now, Mr. Hale, listen to you. When it comes down to it, your father was the one who made the decision. If Mr. Hale hadn’t given the order, who would have gone to save my son!"

As she spoke, she covered her face and began to cry again.

"Nanny Sullivan, why don’t you two go rest for now. You’re not needed here today."

Vera Coleman was angry.

’So I made my daughter rescue an ungrateful wretch.’

Once this acid rain was over, she decided she would let Nanny Sullivan go.

Jenna Sullivan lived in the backyard of the house. Since she was in a hurry to bandage her son’s wounds, she immediately grabbed a first-aid kit and left with Ben Stone after hearing what Vera Coleman said.

"I shouldn’t have let Nina take such a risk."

Vera Coleman said remorsefully after Nanny Sullivan left.

Daniel Hale nodded. "That kid is so young, yet he’s already such a smooth talker. He’s not an honest person!"

"I’m going to get some rest."

Nina Jacobs wasn’t interested in this discussion. She had more important things to do.

After being led to her room by Leo Hale, the corner of Nina Jacobs’s mouth couldn’t help but twitch.

Vera Coleman had actually decorated the room for her like a pink-and-white princess room. The decor was incredibly exquisite, and there was even a photo of her as a child with her grandmother.

"Thanks for today."

Leo Hale left this one sentence behind and departed, shutting the door with a SLAM.

Nina Jacobs walked over, bolted the door, and then lay down on the bed to examine the rewards she had received from the system today.

First was the First Superpower Card.

After Nina Jacobs tapped it open, the system began to explain:

[The twelve Superpower types are: Gold Element, Wood Element, Water Element, Fire Element, Earth Element, Wind Element, Thunder Element, Healing Element, Space Element, Speed Element, Strength Element, and Spiritual Element.]

[Using the First Superpower Card does not affect the user’s own natural Superpower awakening. Furthermore, after use, the user’s body will be restored to its peak healthy state.]

In her previous life, Nina Jacobs had given the First Superpower Card to Liam Grant because he had been injured for her sake.

Liam Grant had awakened the Thunder Element on the morning of the second day of the acid rain.

The Thunder Element was a rare type of Superpower with extremely high damage potential.

Because of this, he was envied by many and hailed as a chosen one.

’My own things are best used by myself, after all.’

Nina Jacobs used the First Superpower Card on herself. When it came time to choose a Superpower, she selected the Fire Element Superpower she had long desired.

She knew that in a few days, she would awaken the Speed Element Superpower.

If two Superpowers were to complement each other, Nina Jacobs believed it had to be the Fire Element Superpower and the Speed Element Superpower.

The Healing Element Superpower was also important, but she already had the Healing Potion.

After the Superpower was successfully selected, a small flame sparked to life at Nina Jacobs’s fingertip.

She was now a Fire Element Superpower User!

The entire day’s fatigue had vanished. After becoming a Superpower User, all aspects of her physical constitution had changed.

Nina Jacobs felt as if she had boundless energy coursing through her body.

’Prosperity Gardens, Number 32, was it?’

Recalling Renee Strong’s words, Nina Jacobs decided to use the "Five Senses Enhancement" Skill to investigate Prosperity Gardens.

On the way to rescue Ben Stone, she had used "Five Senses Enhancement" intermittently for over an hour. The Skill’s duration was three hours, and the system panel showed she had one hour and twenty minutes remaining.

’That’s enough.’

Nina Jacobs activated "Five Senses Enhancement." She could now hear some of any activity within a three-kilometer radius.

"Found you."

A few minutes later, a smile touched the corners of Nina Jacobs’s lips.

Meanwhile, in the Prosperity Gardens Villa Area, Liam Grant was discussing something with Simon Abbott and a few others.

"...Shannon will awaken her Water Element Superpower in nine days. I’ve already sent Wyatt Jacobs to make contact with her."

This was Simon Abbott’s voice.

"Mm, Shannon Renner’s talent with her Water Element Superpower is indeed remarkable. In our past life, no one could surpass her."
