It was from Shirley Lucas that Nina Jacobs learned that there was a Goldsmithās Shop inside the park, one that bought gold Superpower Users found on the outside.
A pound of gold could be exchanged for 100 points, and 100 points could get you two cups of instant noodles.
"Thereās nothing to be done. Gold is as useless as money these days."
Shirley Lucas also felt this exchange rate was a bit of a rip-off.
But regardless, many people still took the gold jewelry and Gold Bars they found to exchange for park points.
She took out a plate of sunflower seeds from somewhere and handed a handful to Nina Jacobs.
"Whereās the Goldsmithās Shop?"
Nina Jacobs took the sunflower seeds, and the two of them started cracking them open in a corner.
"What, you have gold you want to trade too?"
Shirley Lucas spat out a seed shell and leaned against the table behind her.
Nina Jacobs glanced at the muscles on her arms and said,
"No, Iām just curious."
"Not far. Itās right next to that RV over there,"
Shirley Lucas replied.
Nina Jacobs had actually seen a white RV on her way in.
So she knew exactly where Shirley Lucas meant.
There was indeed a building next to the RV.
Just then, the award ceremony on stage finally ended. Scott Stone put on a smile and said loudly,
"Today, we are extremely fortunate to have with us the general manager of our park, Dempsey."
"Please welcome him to the stage to say a few words."
The audience immediately burst into applause.
Nina Jacobs finally got a look at the man, Cole Dempsey.
He looked to be only in his twenties, and he was dressed quite fashionably.
He didnāt really look like a big boss.
There was a strange noise beside her, and Nina Jacobs saw Shirley Lucas quickly hide something.
But she didnāt pay it any mind. Seeing that Wayne Warner was interested in the sunflower seeds in her hand, she grabbed another handful for him.
Wayne Warner promptly stuffed the entire handful into his mouth and started chewing them, shells and all. CRUNCH, CRUNCH.
"..."
Hearing Shirley Lucasās suppressed laughter beside her, Nina Jacobs instantly regretted it.
āIād better not give Wayne Warner random things to eat anymore.ā
Cole Dempseyās speech was less a motivational rally and more a brainwashing session.
"...The Superpower User Alliance will expand nationwide in the near future,"
"And when that time comes, all of you here could very well become the backbone of our Alliance!"
"YEAH!!"
Someone started an excited round of applause.
Just then, a commotion broke out outside.
Cole Dempsey said something to Scott Stone before heading out first.
Before long, several people who could barely stand were brought in.
Their lips were chapped and cracked, and their bodies had an unnatural red flush.
They were foaming at the mouth and seemed to be unconscious.
Nina Jacobs hadnāt expected the men sheād locked in the metal shed to be found so quickly.
"Whatās going on?
Did someone take out these disgusting creeps?"
Shirley Lucas, sitting beside her, perked up with interest and sat up straight.
"Not taken out. More like roasted,"
Nina Jacobs added from the side.
"Roasted?
Now that you mention it, they do kind of look like it."
Just as Shirley Lucas was pondering this, Cole Dempseyās gaze swept across the crowd, and he asked,
"Just now, someone found these brothers on the back hill. Theyād been ambushed."
"Also, Supervisor Quincy has been killed."
"I want to know if one of you is responsible for this."
The crowd was in an uproar, with everyone looking bewildered.
Shirley Lucas gave Nina Jacobs some more sunflower seeds and explained in a low voice,
"That supervisor, Quincy, was no saint."
"I think he was a relative of Scott Stoneās. He screwed over plenty of people."
"I donāt know who did it, but they did everyone a favor."
"I think so too."
Nina Jacobs nodded.
"No oneās admitting it?
So you have the guts to do it, but not to own up to it."
Scott Stoneās voice suddenly rose.
The hall immediately fell silent.
Shirley Lucas nudged Nina Jacobs, who took the hint and put down her sunflower seeds.
"According to our investigation,"
"Supervisor Quincy was only in contact with two people before he died."
"Which of you are Wayne Warner and Summer Warner?"
Scott Stone continued to scan the hundred or so people below.
No one answered.
He was already furious, and the silence from the audience made him want to explode.
Shirley Lucas also looked around, confused.
"I know! Itās those two!"
Just then, a long-haired woman stood up, pointing at Nina Jacobs and her companion.
Nina Jacobs raised an eyebrow. It was Holly Abbott.
Holly Abbott seemed agitated, her breathing a little rushed.
But her expression was one of excitement.
"Dempsey, we saw them this afternoon!"
"Sheās Summer Warner, and the one behind her is her brother, Wayne Warner!"
In an instant, all eyes in the hall turned toward them.
Shirley Lucas looked at Nina Jacobs in astonishment.
"It was actually you two?"
āHow could I not have thought of that!ā
Seeing this, Nina Jacobs had no choice but to stand up with a sigh.
"Youāre Summer Warner? You did all this?"
Scott Stone frowned.
He never would have imagined Summer Warner would be such a young woman.
"Yes, Iām Summer Warner,"
Nina Jacobs replied.
"Youāve got some nerve.
Causing a death on your very first day.
Itās not even certain if these brothers will survive.
Just wait for your punishment!
Men..."
With Cole Dempsey present, Scott Stone couldnāt just lose his temper, so he could only order them to be taken away for now.
But Cole Dempsey stopped him.
He looked at the pair with great interest and said,
"Not so fast. Iām also curious about what exactly happened."
āA brother and sister who just joined the park managed to defeat so many people without anyone knowing?ā
āThe higher-ups told me to promote the strong. I might as well see what these two are capable of.ā
Before long, Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner were brought into Cole Dempseyās office.
Originally, Nina Jacobs had planned to use an Invisibility Potion to help them escape.
But now, facing Cole Dempsey, she changed her mind.
"Why did you want to kill them?"
Cole Dempsey sized them up.
"They started it."
Nina Jacobs recounted what happened with Hector Quincy.
"He wanted me to pay for his medical expenses. I told him Iād pay him back after I found some supplies,"
"but they didnāt believe me at all."
"They were even going to have those men take me away."
"My brother got angry and couldnāt take it, so he fought back."
Nina Jacobs wore an indignant expression.
"You know where to find supplies?"
Cole Dempsey asked.
"Of course. Iām a local."
"My home is in the Western Suburbs, but Iām not a Space Superpower User."
"Neither is my brother."
Nina Jacobsās words successfully piqued Cole Dempseyās interest.
"Since youāve come to our community,"
"youāre one of us now."
"As you know, here, everyone works together to find supplies,"
"which are then brought back to be distributed fairly and stored properly."
"This is all to ensure that everyone will have enough supplies in the future."
Cole Dempsey explained at length, and Nina Jacobs listened very attentively.
"So, you want us to lead you to the supplies?"
Nina Jacobs asked.
"Thatās right."
"That doesnāt seem right. Iām the one who found those supplies."
"Then arenāt you afraid someone else will get to them first?
If you lead us to those supplies,
youāll also receive a large number of our points.
And I can guarantee that you and your brother will get a share of them."
Seeing that Nina Jacobs seemed to be convinced, Cole Dempsey pressed on with more enthusiasm.
"Is what youāre saying true?
You wouldnāt lie to me?"
Nina Jacobs pretended to think for a moment before finally agreeing.
"But I have one more condition,"
Nina Jacobs said.
"What condition?"
"In a couple of days, change the dorm for me and my brother."
After Nina Jacobs finished speaking, Cole Dempsey burst out laughing.
"Thatās a small matter. Once you lead us to the supplies,"
"you and your brother will be great contributors to our community."
"At that time, feel free to make any request you want."
"So, about this matter... can we go back now?"
Nina Jacobs had guessed correctly; Cole Dempsey did indeed let them go.
In the hallway, as she was walking, Nina Jacobs clutched her stomach and squatted down.
"Was the buffet tonight not fresh?
Can I use your restroom?"
