"Get in."
Nina Jacobs said.
The four of them stared, wide-eyed.
The roaring behind them continued.
With no time for shock or questions, they scrambled into the car.
Nina Jacobs floored the accelerator and sped off.
"What was that all about?"
Nina Jacobs asked the four, who were still shaken.
The group consisted of three men and one woman. One man and woman appeared to be a couple, while the other two men, one heavy-set and one thin, kept glancing nervously behind them.
"I-It was some kind of four-legged monster!
It chased us for so long. We thought weâd lost it,
but then another one appeared up ahead!"
The young woman said, her voice filled with terror.
The monster was incredibly strong; it had flipped their car right over.
Two of their companions hadnât made it out in time, and the two monsters had pounced, tearing into them.
To make matters worse, that section of road was a small bridge, and for some unknown reason, a large part of it had collapsed.
That was why they had tried to stop Nina Jacobs from driving any further.
"No, theyâre not monsters.
They must be wild boars from around here,
and theyâve turned into zombies!"
The heavy-set man sitting next to Nina Jacobs replied.
"Thank you for saving our lives."
The young womanâs boyfriend seemed relatively composed.
But just as they thought they were safe, the car screeched to a halt.
"So, theyâre zombie boars."
Nina Jacobs stared at the zombified animal that had just burst out from the dead woods by the road.
âIf theyâre zombie boars, there should be a lot of them around here.â
âAfter all, boars were herd animals even before the apocalypse.â
"Weâre screwed! This thing is insanely strong!
The car wonât make it through."
The thin manâs face went pale as death.
âThere are two behind us and now one in front.â
âWeâre definitely going to die today!â
"Then letâs get out."
Nina Jacobs said to Wayne Warner in the back.
"Okay."
Wayne Warner nodded, his eyes firmly fixed on the zombie boar outside the car.
Perhaps because he had never seen such a thing, Nina Jacobs noticed a hint of curiosity in Wayne Warnerâs eyes.
"Youâve got to be kidding me..."
The heavy-set man asked, his voice trembling. âGet out of the car now?â
"If the car gets wrecked, no one can fix it."
As she spoke, Nina Jacobs had already opened the car door and gotten out.
The zombie boar seemed to have retained its old instincts. Facing the SUV, it scraped its front hooves against the ground.
It was preparing to charge.
Seeing Nina Jacobs and her companion get out, it charged.
BAM!
With a running start, Wayne Warner kicked the zombie boar head-on.
The zombie boar, which stood over a meter tall, was sent flying into the cliff face by the side of the road!
The people in the car even forgot to get out.
"Does he have legs of steel?"
The heavy-set man said in disbelief.
"But itâs a zombie! Itâs not hurt at all!"
Another companion shouted. The zombie boar slid down the cliff face and got back on its feet.
âItâs going to attack again!â
And it was targeting the young woman who had just saved them!
As the zombie boar lunged at her, Nina Jacobs braced herself, sweeping her Fire Roaring Blade low across the ground.
In a flash, all four of the zombie boarâs hooves were cleanly severed!
While the boar was down and unable to stand, she plunged the Fire Roaring Blade straight into its eye socket!
The zombie boarâs mouth gaped open, releasing a putrid stench. But it had clearly taken a fatal blow and was now lifeless.
Nina Jacobs twisted the tip of her blade inside the eye socket, pulling out a Crystal Core half the size of her palm.
"You two are incredible!
My name is Evan Crawford. Weâre on our way to a safe zone."
The heavy-set man, Evan Crawford, jumped out of the car and said excitedly.
The other three also got out of the car.
The young woman expertly stretched out her hand, and the zombie boarâs corpse vanished.
"Iâll clear the road. We should get going."
Then, she walked to the side of the road and made the corpse reappear.
"Iâm afraid itâs already too late."
The tall, thin man stared behind them, his face a deathly pale.
"Gabriel Leighton, donât tell me...
youâre jinxing us again, arenât you?"
The heavy-set Evan Crawford and the other two looked terrified.
Nina Jacobs glanced back. She, too, could hear the thud of heavy bodies landing repeatedly. It sounded like at least three zombified animals.
âFor that tall, thin man to sense them so quickly... he must be a Spiritual Element Superpower User.â
"Theyâre here! Letâs get in the car and go!"
Evan Crawford walked to Nina Jacobsâs side and shouted in a pleading, anxious tone.
In the distance, two or three bizarrely shaped creatures were heading their way!
"Weâre not running."
Nina Jacobs said.
It was two zombie boars and one zombie monkey.
âIf we donât kill them, theyâll follow us to the ends of the earth.â
"Sheâs right,"
"if we keep running, none of us will make it."
"Letâs do this for Old Zhang and the others!"
The man in the young couple stood in front of his girlfriend.
He was holding a steel pipe, its surface covered in dents and scrapes.
Seeing that no one had chickened out, Nina Jacobs took out several weapons from the trunk of the car.
They were only simple weaponsâmachetes and axes.
But they were much more useful than the steel pipe and baseball bat in their hands.
"First, find a way to hold them back!"
Nina Jacobs had already formed a Fireball. The zombie boars were massive, so she targeted their legs specifically.
Though drenched in a cold sweat from fear, the others seized the opportunity and struck with their new weapons.
But the zombie boars were far too strong; they couldnât be held back.
Evan Crawford felt like crying. Heâd just seen the young woman who saved them take one down so effortlessly.
SHINK!
Nina Jacobs plunged her blade through one boarâs head. An instant later, the Fireball in her hand smashed into the zombie monkey leaping from behind.
The zombie monkey instantly became a flaming torch and dropped to the ground.
Meanwhile, Wayne Warner had kicked the other boar, snapping its neck.
"Letâs go. If we stay any longer, more will show up."
Nina Jacobs dug out Crystal Cores from the heads of all the zombified animals.
The Crystal Cores from large zombified animals were generally bigger than Zombie Crystal Cores, but humans were unable to absorb them.
âI wonder if my Superpower Energy Stone can use them.â
"Miss, has it always been just the two of you?
I mean, we could travel together. Itâd be safer."
After learning Nina Jacobs was also headed to a safe zone, Evan Crawford made his proposal.
He knew he was being a bit shameless.
If they teamed up, his group would clearly be the ones benefiting.
After all, they had all just witnessed it: these two were on a completely different level from ordinary people.
"Sorry, Iâm not planning on teaming up.
Besides, Iâm on my way back to find my family."
Nina Jacobs politely refused.
"But we can travel together until we reach the safe zone."
Nina Jacobs added.
"Thatâs more than enough!
Weâll handle the supplies. Weâll take care of all the food and drinks for you and him!"
The young woman, whose name was Joy Thompson, immediately gave her assurance upon hearing Nina Jacobsâs offer.
None of them expected that Nina Jacobs and her companion were actually from the City D safe zone.
Likewise, Nina Jacobs hadnât expected them to be from the neighboring City J.
"That wonât be necessary, but how did you all end up in City D?"
âWith Wayne Warnerâs appetite,â she thought, âheâd probably eat through all four of their rations.â
"City J... The temporary aid station there was overrun by zombies."
"We were just lucky to get out."
Joy Thompsonâs boyfriend answered.
