"We canât hold them back anymore!
Theyâre breaking through!
Marksmen and snipers, get ready!
You few, with me..."
"Wait a second."
Nina Jacobs shook her head at him.
Conventional weapons are basically useless against Speed Element mutated zombies.
She believed Chester Pearson knew this as well.
"But..."
Chester Pearson was frantic.
âHow can we wait at a time like this?â
âAt a time like this...â
Nina Jacobsâs figure had already shot forward.
Then, astonished and questioning cries erupted from the crowd.
Even the nearby marksmen nervously tightened their grip on their triggers.
Daniel Hale almost rushed out, but Ian Chandler stopped him.
Nina Jacobs stood alone in the middle of the road.
Speed Element mutated zombies were usually elusive, appearing and disappearing like ghosts.
She could track them with her "Five Senses Enhancement."
But Nina Jacobs also wanted to try out a new move.
"On your right!"
Daniel Hale shouted a warning.
But it seemed Nina Jacobs had already spotted them before he did.
The two Speed Element mutated zombies opened their gaping maws the moment they appeared.
They lunged at Nina Jacobs.
Completely oblivious to the trap at their feet.
BOOM!
After touching the liquid flames on the ground,
the two Speed Element mutated zombies were instantly engulfed in orange-yellow fire, frozen in place.
[Hostâs action detected. This action will save 8 human lives in 0 days. Triggering "Selfless Savior" title. Reward: 8 vials of Healing Potion.]
"Looks like it was a success."
However...
Nina Jacobs paid no more mind to the two Speed Element mutated zombies that were still crumbling to dust.
She turned to face the other mutated zombies now charging toward them.
Although Chester Pearson was shocked, he reacted quickly.
He was already leading a group of Superpower Users to intercept them.
"There are too many more behind the first wave of mutated zombies, be carefulâ
What the fuck is that?!"
Chester Pearson stared at the neat row of flaming arrows hovering above his head.
SWOOSH!
One of the flaming arrows shot out first, piercing the head of a mutated zombie.
The remaining Fire Arrows hung motionless in mid-air.
As if awaiting their masterâs command.
"Did I disrupt your battle rhythm?"
Nina Jacobs asked.
âI did just rush in rashly.â
âAnd it seemed like Chester Pearson had his own battle plan.â
"No, no,
Not at all."
Chester Pearson and the several people behind him shook their heads in unison.
"Good."
Only then did the remaining flaming arrows shoot toward the mutated zombies in the distance.
After killing those zombies, Nina Jacobs walked back, lost in thought.
âLooks like I really need to practice and adjust the altitude and quantity of the Flaming Arrows.â
âThree of my arrows missed just now.â
âBy that count, my accuracy still needs improvement...â
"Is this the power of an Intermediate Fire Element user?"
Chester Pearson stared at the zombie corpses on the ground, his eyes filled with fervent admiration.
In just a few minutes, over a dozen mutated zombies had been dealt with.
Nina Jacobsâs strength had far surpassed his imagination.
"Captain, does this mean we donât have to do anything now?"
a team member asked.
They had come here prepared to die, never expecting the crisis to be resolved so quickly.
"What do you mean, nothing to do?
Everyone, on your toes! More zombies are coming."
Although Chester Pearson wanted nothing more than to slide on his knees and beg her to be his master, he knew they still had important work to do.
In a corner of the distance, it was as if a floodgate had opened, and countless zombies poured into the plaza.
A temporary chain-link fence encircled the plaza.
The zombies that had been lured in slammed violently against the fence.
"Position One, fire!"
Chester Pearson commanded.
The silenced cannons, which had long been in position, let out a muffled roar.
With just a single blast, a large number of zombies were blown to bits.
"Chester Pearson, there are still a lot more over there,"
Daniel Hale pointed out.
"No wonder this wholesale market has survived until now."
Nina Jacobs realized there was a truly massive number of zombies here.
If Chester Pearson and his team hadnât prepared in advance, setting up layer after layer of barricades and positioning these heavy weapons in front of them,
the zombies would have surely overwhelmed them by now.
"Weâve scouted it out. The amount of supplies in this wholesale market is enough to sustain the entire shelter for at least a month."
Maybe even longer.
Ian Chandler explained.
That was why they were willing to expend so much time and manpower to collect the supplies here.
"That much?"
Nina Jacobs was also a little surprised.
She wasnât greedy for it; the wholesale market wasnât one of the systemâs free-for-all acquisition tasks.
This meant the supplies in the wholesale market wouldnât end up going to waste.
âIt seems Chester Pearson and his group are the ones who end up collecting them.â
"This wholesale market is huge. Thereâs a grain and oil distributor inside,"
Daniel Hale explained loudly over the blasts from tanks and rocket launchers.
Food is the most important resource.
Itâs worth using up the ammunition.
The barrage of weapon fire continued for over forty minutes.
The remaining zombies began to climb over the layers of barricades, trying to get to the fresh flesh and blood.
However, they were shot down as they tried to scale the obstacles.
"Thatâs about it. Looks like today went pretty smoothly."
Daniel Hale had been using his Spiritual Detection the whole time; basically all the zombies in the market had been lured out.
The next step was to protect Ian Chandler while maintaining perimeter defense.
Chester Pearson seemed to be in a good mood as well.
Because so far, they hadnât lost a single team member.
Nina Jacobs could finally see the wholesale market in its entirety.
"It really is huge,"
Nina Jacobs said.
Although a foul smell permeated the market, it mostly came from the stench of rot in the fresh produce section.
"Big Sis, Iâm heading in first."
Protected by several people, Ian Chandler walked into a grain and oil store.
Nina Jacobs nodded.
Besides him, two other Space Superpower Users also entered two separate shops.
Their spatial dimensions could supposedly also hold a significant amount of supplies.
"I never thought Superpowers could be upgraded.
If that kid Leo Hale knew you leveled up, heâd be green with envy."
Daniel Hale stood beside Nina Jacobs, laughing heartily.
"Yeah, I didnât expect it either."
Nina Jacobs hadnât expected to advance to the Intermediate level so quickly.
"It seems going out to get more experience really does pay off.
I was just saying..."
Suddenly, Daniel Haleâs words trailed off. He looked toward a spot in the sky. "Someoneâs coming."
"From the shelter?" Nina Jacobs asked.
"I donât think so. Any handoffs with the shelter are always at a set time and place.
And itâs not just in the sky. There are dozens of people coming by car, too."
Daniel Hale immediately notified everyone over the walkie-talkie.
He did so because the newcomers were all heading straight for them.
"Whatâs the situation?"
Chester Pearson immediately came out.
He was still holding a large burlap sack, which he had been using to gather miscellaneous supplies to make it easier for the Space Superpower Users to collect them.
"Anyone coming here at a time like this is bound to be after the supplies."
Nina Jacobs guessed. âCould there be other factions in City J?â
"You guys donât worry about it. Keep collecting the supplies,"
Uncle Hale and I will handle things out here for now."
âSupplies are only yours once theyâre in your space.â
"Okay."
Chester Pearson understood this principle.
"We have weapons and people,
they probably wonât try anything stupid."
Daniel Hale said.
"Not necessarily."
Nina Jacobs felt something was off.
And just then, she was the first to spot the helicopter that appeared in the sky.
It was pink.
Thanks to her "Five Senses Enhancement," her vision was superior to that of other Superpower Users.
Nina Jacobs could already clearly see the logo printed on the side of the aircraft.
"You recognize it?"
Daniel Hale asked.
Nina Jacobs didnât answer.
âThe Aegis Conclave.â
It was the symbol of the mysterious organization, The Aegis Conclave.
âWhat are they doing in City J at a time like this?â
