Chapter 363: Chapter 363: You Picked the Wrong Target
Corin fell silent.
Instead, one of the men behind him answered:
"Hereâs the deal. We saved Corinâs life, so heâs with us now."
"With you?
And who are you?"
Silas Crowley asked.
"Weâre the good guys, of course. Iâm Ethan Cole. A pleasure to meet you, eh?
Corin, arenât you going to invite your old friends over to our place for a visit?"
Ethan Cole sized up the people getting out of the car, his initial apprehension easing.
There were less than ten of them, and aside from the tall, sturdy man with a cat on his shoulder, the rest looked like a stiff breeze could knock them over.
"Weâll pass on the visit. Corin, weâre heading back to the base. Are you coming with us?"
Tobin asked.
"I..."
Corin hesitated.
"Thatâs right, Corin! I knew you were still alive! Weâll take you back with us."
Rhonda Rowan added, her face full of hope.
"Go back? Youâve made it this far, and you really think you can just turn around and leave?"
Ethan Cole waved his hand, and another twenty-odd people emerged from behind them.
Their expressions were menacing.
"Ethan, how long has it been since weâve had any meat? That cat looks pretty plump,"
a tall man said, stepping forward.
"Corin, how could you associate with people like this?"
Rhonda Rowanâs eyes were filled with disbelief.
"Hey now, lady, we donât appreciate that kind of talk,"
"Corin saw the light when he joined us. If it werenât for us, heâd be long dead."
The tall man sneered.
Hearing this, Rhonda Rowan pressed, "You were forced into it, right? Or are you just trying to repay them?"
But Ethan Cole answered for him.
"He wasnât âforcedâ when he led a horde of zombies right to his teammates."
"What do you call that? âSacrifice your teammates for ultimate power!â"
"We just happened to pick him up along the way. Donât make us out to be some kind of fucking idiots."
Ethan Cole didnât hold back, laying it all out in the open.
Cordelia and the others stared in shock at Corin, who offered no rebuttal.
Corin was a Speed Element Superpower User. He often helped them by kiting zombie hordes, but they couldnât bring themselves to believe what Ethan Cole was saying.
âCould Corin really do something like that?â
Rhonda Rowan was equally unwilling to believe it.
"Enough bullshit. Corin, youâre not actually thinking of helping them, are you?"
Ethan Cole asked.
"That could work. How about we let you walk, and you can go back to the base with them?"
The tall man, Harvey Stone, laughed and casually slung an arm over Corinâs shoulder.
Corin immediately shook his head. "Iâm not going back."
âEthan Cole has already spilled everything. I canât go back now.â
"Harvey, Iâll make them leave the supplies and the car. For my sake, can you let them go?"
Corin asked.
"Corin! Out here, no car and no supplies is a death sentence! Are you trying to get us killed?!"
Reginald Sutton said furiously.
Harvey Stone, however, didnât seem angry. He pointed at Reginald Suttonâs group and said:
"Weâre not interested in the men. Leave the two young ladies in the back, and the cat."
"In your dreams!"
Both Reginald Sutton and Silas Crowley moved to stand in front of Nina Jacobs and Cordelia.
"This isnât the time to play hero. You can still take Wendy and leave. Wouldnât that be better?"
Corin tried to persuade them.
"And to think we were worried about you! You... Corin, youâre really... youâre really..."
Cordelia was so angry she was speechless.
"Enough talk. You donât like it? Weâll beat you into submission!
Corin, stop dragging your feet. The boys are all playing along for you."
Ethan Cole immediately ordered his men to surround them.
Seeing Corin raise his knife, Tobin and the others went on high alert.
Cordelia said to Nina Jacobs, "Corin used to be a Martial Arts Coach. His skills are top-notch. Combined with his Speed Element Superpower, he can always strike when you least expect it. Be careful!"
"Okay."
Nina Jacobs replied coolly.
"A few of us will hold him off. You guys get in the car and drive as far away as you can."
Silas Crowley added in a low voice.
Nina Jacobs didnât answer. She could see that she was Corinâs target.
âCompared to his old teammates, Wayne Warner and I are strangers. That probably makes us easier targets in his mind.â
As expected, the Speed Element Superpower Userâs speed was unmatched. Corin had already circled behind the group and was rushing straight for her.
"You picked the wrong target."
Nina Jacobs didnât even move. Wayne Warnerâs fist had already shot out to meet the swiftly approaching figure.
"Look out!"
Silas Crowley hadnât expected Corin to go straight for Nina Jacobs at the very back.
Just as he was about to unleash his Thunder Element Superpower to defend her, Corinâs body went flying several meters, like a kite with its string cut.
"Watch out for the Strength Element Superpower User!"
Ethan Cole shouted upon seeing this.
âDid he really send Corin flying with just one punch?â
âOr did Corin go easy on him?â
At this moment, all Superpower attacks focused on Wayne Warner.
But after the volley of attacks, Wayne Warner was completely unharmed.
"You have three seconds. If youâre not gone by then, itâll be too late."
Nina Jacobs said.
"Ooh, this little ladyâs got a big mouth. I like it."
Harvey Stone had noticed Nina Jacobs from the start.
Even though she was at the back, she was the calmest one there.
Like she was just watching a show.
He just hadnât expected her to say something so audacious, and he burst out laughing.
But his laughter died in his throat.
Cordelia looked over in shock. The two men next to Harvey Stone had spontaneously burst into flames.
The orange-yellow flames had appeared from nowhere, completely engulfing them.
Watching the two men writhe in agony, a horrified Harvey Stone stared at Nina Jacobs.
"That was you?"
"Uh-huh. I gave you time to escape."
The moment the words left Nina Jacobsâs mouth, several more men at the front spontaneously combusted.
Cordelia could tell that they were the Superpower Users who had just been attacking Wayne Warner.
"Stop it!"
A volley of Gold Spikes materialized in front of Harvey Stone and shot toward Nina Jacobs!
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
Reginald Sutton managed to conjure a Metal Shield in time, but it only blocked some of them.
Wayne Warner used his body to block the rest of the Gold Spikes.
Just as everyone was sweating bullets for Wayne Warner, the Gold Spikes simply clattered to the ground!
"What the hell? Everyone, attack!"
Ethan Cole commanded.
But they were no match for Wayne Warner. Even the offensive Superpower Users couldnât withstand a single one of his punches.
CRUNCH!
The sound of shattering bone echoed. A man looked down at his chest in disbelief, where his entire ribcage had been caved in.
"Forget this! Run!"
Only then did Ethan Cole realize they were outmatched. In just a few minutes, the Strength Element Superpower User had already killed more than ten of his people!
"You donât have time to run."
Several Fire Serpents shot out from behind, chasing them down like Life-taking Talismans and instantly coiling around the fleeing men.
Watching the men die quickly as they struggled in the inferno, Cordelia and the others all turned to look at Nina Jacobs.
Not far away, Rhonda Rowan was slumped over Corinâs body, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Iâll go move the barricade up ahead!"
Tobin seemed surprised that the danger had passed so quickly. Worried that the commotion would attract zombies, he quickly used his Control to move the telephone poles to the side.
Meanwhile, Nina Jacobs led Wayne Warner toward the back of the building where the ambushers had been hiding.
Several cars were parked there.
They must have belonged to Ethan Cole and his men.
Seeing this, Cordelia hurried after them.
"You just saved our lives again,"
Cordelia said.
She had thought they were done for.
