Chapter 369: Chapter 369: Just Build Another One
Silas Crowley believed no one was more suited to break these shackles than Nina Jacobs.
The battle lasted until nightfall.
Thaddeus Wren also spoke with Nina Jacobs alone.
Now, he felt nothing but gratitude and admiration for Nina Jacobs.
So, upon learning that Nina Jacobs wanted to inquire about the group at Griston, he laid everything out for herâall that he had investigated, and all that he suspected.
"This group arrived in Keldorn a little over a month ago.
They arenât from Keldorn; they must be from out of town..."
Thaddeus Wren began to explain slowly.
"Are you saying theyâre gathering Water Element Superpower Users and putting them in a separate location?"
Nina Jacobs was also confused.
âThese must be the people Icarus Golding mentioned back in City Dâthe ones who set out first.â
âLogically, The Aegis Conclaveâs goal is to control all of Lornwood Base, so they should be focused on slowly infiltrating the base.â
âBut instead, theyâre gathering Water Element Superpower Users.â
"My guess is they want to move against the base,"
Thaddeus Wren said.
"Oh? What makes you say that?"
Nina Jacobs was intrigued.
Thaddeus Wren sighed and admitted, "My love is a Water Element Superpower User. She has had contact with them before.
Youâre not from Keldorn. Have you ever heard of the Battle of Crestfall?"
Thaddeus Wren asked.
"Iâve heard of it."
Nina Jacobs nodded. Cordelia and the others had told her about it.
"My love is from Crestfall. Back then, there were over eight hundred survivors in the city,
a mix of locals and some tourists. But later, they were all used as bait and fed to the zombies.
I happened to be part of that battle... When a few of us discovered there were still many living people inside the valley, we went straight in to rescue them."
That was how Thaddeus Wren rescued Mirelle Keller. But her brother and both her parents died in Crestfall.
"Mirelle loathes the ones who orchestrated that battle, so sheâs bent on revenge.
That groupâs goal might be the same; otherwise, Mirelle wouldnât be so set on joining them."
Thaddeus Wren explained helplessly.
"Do you know how many of them there are?"
Nina Jacobs asked.
Originally, she had planned to impersonate Magnus York, but she was worried about being recognized. After all, Magnus York was already an insider, and many people within the conclave must have seen her.
If she knew what she was up against, she wouldnât have to take such a roundabout approach.
"There arenât many of them, but every one is a Superpower User, and theyâre not weak.
Maybe... sixty or seventy of them. As for the other location... Iâm not too clear on that."
Thaddeus Wren replied.
"But why do you ask, Miss Jacobs?"
he asked again, a bit puzzled.
"Iâm planning to pay them a visit."
Nina Jacobsâs answer shocked him.
After thinking for a moment, he led Nina Jacobs to a room.
The room was very neat but completely sealed. The only way to see outside was through a tempered glass window set at ground level, which was enclosed in a metal frame.
"Itâs you?"
The woman in the room shot to her feet the moment she saw Nina Jacobs enter.
"You recognize me?"
Nina Jacobs looked at the beautiful woman before her.
The womanâs features were striking, and she exuded a potent femininity with every gesture, yet one of her ankles was shackled to a nearby iron post.
"I just saw you from here."
Mirelle Keller said, pointing to the tempered glass window.
"I wouldnât have guessed Captain Wren had such tastes."
Nina Jacobs wasnât joking.
Imprisonment is a denial of human rights, and a form of humiliation.
No matter the reason.
"I..."
Thaddeus Wren waved his hand, using his Superpower to release the shackle from Mirelle Kellerâs ankle.
"I was wrong," Thaddeus Wren said. "I just didnât want to see Mirelle go get herself killed."
"Youâre not going there to die, are you?"
Nina Jacobs set down a few diagrams she was holding.
The room contained numerous maps and hand-drawn diagrams. The locations marked on the maps were all within Lornwood Base.
The diagrams seemed to depict the surroundings of Lornwood Base, as well as Crestfall.
It seemed a revenge plot was brewing.
âA person like this wouldnât just go and get herself killed.â
"Die?
I cherish my life dearly, but a certain someone insists on thinking Iâm going off to die."
Mirelle Keller shook her head, her gaze falling on Thaddeus Wren.
At just one glance from her, Thaddeus Wren lowered his head like a child whoâd done something wrong.
"Thaddeus Wren, Iâll settle this score with you later,"
Mirelle Keller said coldly.
She then looked at Nina Jacobs and asked, "He brought you to me. Donât tell me you also want to go to Griston and join them?"
âIf so, Iâll have another ally.â
"Youâve misunderstood. Iâm not going to join them,"
Nina Jacobs said.
âMirelle Keller is clearly an intelligent woman.â
"Then... are you planning to wipe them all out in one go?"
Mirelle Keller asked.
"Something like that."
"Absolutely not. Wren is useless. Now that a group has finally appeared that can help me, how can I just stand by and watch you destroy them?"
Mirelle Keller replied.
She was mad with her desire for revenge.
"If theyâre destroyed, weâll just build another one, wonât we?"
Nina Jacobsâs words left Mirelle Keller stunned.
âBuild another one?â
"Thatâs right. I have a score to settle with the organization this group belongs to. After I destroy them, Iâll naturally create a new one.
Do you want to come and help me?"
Nina Jacobs said.
"Mirelle, I think Miss Jacobs is right. We..."
"You, shut up."
Mirelle Keller cut Thaddeus Wren off, and he instantly fell silent.
"Youâre saying youâll create it?"
An excited, almost crazed light flared in Mirelle Kellerâs eyes.
She had seen Nina Jacobsâs power clearly from upstairs just moments ago.
Although Nina Jacobs looked young standing before her now, Mirelle believed she had the strength to back up her words.
"Correct. Although I have my own agenda, it doesnât run counter to yours."
Nina Jacobs knew the other woman would agree.
And just as she expected, Mirelle Keller agreed with a nod, asking no further questions.
"According to my previous investigation, they have over 60 Superpower Users. Most of them are probably just hired muscle they recruited in Keldorn.
Their leader is named Tristan Lynch, a Wind Element Superpower User. As far as I know, theyâre here waiting for someone.
Once the person theyâre waiting for shows up, theyâll head to another prepared base of operations."
Mirelle Keller laid out everything she knew.
"And the Water Element Superpower Users theyâve gathered are at the other location as well?"
Nina Jacobs asked.
"Correct. But my contact on the inside was completely tight-lipped about that part.
I was supposed to go and see for myself once I agreed to join."
Mirelle Keller shot Thaddeus Wren a look; he was the one who had ruined her plan.
"Your plan wouldnât have worked anyway,"
Thaddeus Wren muttered.
"Shut your mouth!" Mirelle Keller snapped, her brow furrowing in displeasure.
She fumed just thinking about it.
"I plan to go tomorrow,"
Nina Jacobs said.
Hearing what Mirelle Keller said gave her a new idea, but she wasnât sure if Mirelle would be willing to cooperate.
ăThe next day, before dawnă
News spread through the tower that Mirelle Keller had left.
"What are we going to do? Without a Water Element Superpower User, how will we survive?"
"I heard she had a fight with Captain Wren and left in a huff."
"We barely managed to repel the zombie horde. Whatâs the point of defending this place if itâs going to be like this?"
"..."
Panic instantly swept through the tower.
ăThat afternoonă
Nina Jacobs also went out, taking several people with her.
Cordelia and the others went with her, all except for Rhonda Rowan.
"Rhonda never used to go on outings before, so please donât take it personally,"
Cordelia said, worried that Nina Jacobs might be upset.
After all, this time Rhonda Rowan had unilaterally refused to accompany them.
