1006 Â Chapter 1006: At Most, Consider It a Joke
âNo more gambling, huh? If youâre not gambling, why are you so annoyed,â Le Yu said mockingly as he snatched the fruit back. âUncle, have some with me.â
He peeled an orange and handed half to Mr. Che. âUncle, give Che Qin a call. Sheâs all alone at home stewing in her own juice, and Iâm worried about her, but she wonât answer my calls.â
Mr. Che was choking with anger, feeling that his daughter should be able to deal with such a shameless person. âWhy did you two start arguing?â
Le Yu stopped eating the orange, sized up Mr. Che for a while, then slowly started to speak, âOur coupleâs matters, why are you sticking your nose in.â
If he told Mr. Che that he had been pretending before and now he wanted to go back to take over the family business, wouldnât that be exactly what he wanted? Le Yu knew all too well how greedy this man was. Once he said it out loud, he estimated Mr. Che would immediately hand Che Qin over to him.
He did want Che Qin, but he didnât want to mix in any sort of benefit, let alone have Mr. Che speak on his behalfâotherwise, everything would be tainted.
It was his own fault after all, and he should bear the consequences himself.
Mr. Che had been waiting just for Le Yu to say that and exploded, âIt would be for the best if Che Qin never married you, otherwise just wait, with your attitude, Iâll make sure you suffer eventually!â
Le Yu wasnât threatened in the slightest, âIâm not the one marrying into your family, why should I care about your opinion?â

Everyone says that having a daughter is like having a hundred suitors, but Mr. Che had never seen someone who was seeking his daughterâs hand with such an arrogant attitude. His nose was practically bent out of shape with irritation.
Their quarreling finally caused the tightly shut door to open.
Le Yu immediately stood up.
Che Qin, with her eyes red from crying, stood at the door looking at her father. Her voice was rough after sobbing, âDad, come in.â
Le Yu tried to follow but was stopped by the door slamming shut in his face.
He dejectedly ruffled his hair.
Inside, father and daughter faced each other without saying a word.
After sitting in silence for a while, Mr. Che said, âI came to bring you some fruit, and also, Iâve stopped gambling. I havenât been to any gambling places in months. From now on, you donât need to give me money. Dad can earn it.â
Che Qin thought of the red fruit bag by Le Yuâs side and replied, âMm.â
Mr. Che really didnât know what to say; the relationship between the two was incredibly strained. Every time he brought fresh fruit, it was an attempt to see Che Qin and hopefully mend their relationship a bit.
His daughterâs ârebellionâ took him by surprise, but when he was caught in a trap and lost everything, penniless, and when he was so down and out he didnât know what tomorrow would bringâthatâs when she came back and even agreed to support him.
âAre you having a conflict?â Mr. Che saw her swollen eyes and found a topic to broach, âCanât let go of him?â
Che Qin didnât respond.
âHe doesnât even have two coins to rub together, still acts like a spoiled rich kid. Itâs simple, just dump him,â Mr. Che said. âYour work environment is pretty good. You could move on and find someone new.â
âYeah, many of the people who come to the gallery to buy paintings are rich,â Che Qin went along with his thoughts. âIâm thinking now, itâd be great if Le Yu were just pretending to be poor. Then we wouldnât have to count every penny; itâd be so much more relaxing.â
Mr. Che, considering himself experienced and knowledgeable, added, âI actually hope heâs pretending to be poor. If he is, money can solve anything, and you two wouldnât have to fight.â
âWhy would it be okay if itâs just pretending? Pretending from rich to poor, isnât that still deception?â Che Qin said sadly. âItâs still a lie.â
Mr. Che disagreed, âItâs not deception if a man isnât pretending to have money to trick you. Pretending to be poor can hardly count as deception. Stop being so sentimental, itâs at most a joke.â
âWhatâs wrong with him having money?â Mr. Che felt the problem wasnât serious, âIf your partner is rich, then youâre rich too. No need to work for others, and even I could benefit from it, rubbing elbows with the rich. Playing a game of pretending to be poor, whatâs the big deal in that.â
