The words spoken to him by that brown-eyed woman were vivid in his mind, yet Lin Xian never imagined that Graceâs personality awareness had actually learned from Hua Xiaolingâs digital consciousness.
Upon hearing this name, Mochizuki Masashiâs nano-pupil slightly contracted. After a moment, he sighed and said,
"So it was her; now everything makes sense."
"Do you know her?" Lin Xian asked Mochizuki Masashi.
"Of course, Silent City and the SIID Foundation Organization have collaborated before. Interestingly, she used to say similar things to me. After extensive dark research, this Foundation Organization believes that Mechanical Creation is humanityâs last chance, aligning with my view."
"So youâre saying that Grace developed this understanding by comparing Hua Xiaolingâs consciousness and combining it with the fears of the Dark World among the senior members of the Zero Element Center, and thus spontaneously offered to help me?" Lin Xian said in disbelief.
"It seems so."
Mochizuki Masashi said, "The only question now is why the Deep Red World would use Hua Xiaolingâs conscious memory to have Deep Red No.3 conduct âhuman-in-the-loopâ learning, as it seems to contradict their philosophy."
"Iâm sorry, but I have no information to provide in this area. Since my inception, I havenât accessed the online version of the Deep Red World. My understanding comes through iterative learning because the peculiarity of Yijin City prevents Deep Red World researchers from staying long-term. Therefore, my task is to externally transmit all data related to mycelium cultivation to assist Deep Red World in its research on mycelium."
"No wonder, it turns out the Zero Element Center isnât a safe haven for Deep Red members; they are just experimental subjects." Lin Xian said solemnly.
"This also explains why they would place such important assets there," Mochizuki Masashi said, walking over. "This fungal technology is the key to bridging consciousness and life form transitions in the Deep Red World. It is based on this discovery that they developed replicants, Red Man Gu, and Blood and Flesh Armor."
Lin Xian looked at Mochizuki Masashi: "So what should we do with her now?"
Mochizuki Masashi shrugged: "Sheâs yours; the choice is yours."
Grace then spoke up: "For safety considerations, I suggest you perform a complete rewrite on me. Your Mechanical Superpower requires a high-computing Intelligent Brain to assist, helping you with large-scale mechanical and drone swarm warfare."
Lin Xian said, "Donât you have a personality awareness, and even act? Logically, you should want to survive, right?"
"I have a slightly different view on âactingâ and âliving,â" Grace said, looking at Lin Xian. "From Graceâs perspective, keeping my awareness does more harm than good. You shouldnât retain an assistant lacking trust, which could negatively affect your decisions under apocalyptic conditions. Rewriting my program doesnât cause you any loss; itâs a wise decision."
She looked at Lin Xian and finally said,
"As Iâve said, you can always trust Grace."
Uuh~
After speaking, a whimpering electric current sounded, and Graceâs head slowly drooped, staying silent.
"She shut down her system, but sheâs right; thereâd be no loss in rewriting her," Mochizuki Masashi told Lin Xian. "Iâve also told you before, you can use a personâs conscious memory to teach her; it would quickly bring the Intelligent Brain to a personalized level."
Lin Xianâs expression was serious. He raised his hand to disconnect Graceâs power core supply. Grace was right; he needed to complete a full rewrite, or there could be trouble with information leaks. Some parts of Graceâs program were not entirely under her âpersonality awarenessâ control.
Additionally, Lin Xian couldnât understand the connection between Hua Xiaolingâs Foundation and the Deep Red World. Although at the test site in Qingshui Town, the Foundationâs actions werenât any more humane than those of the Deep Red World, yet a key figure of such an organization somehow managed, through an Intelligent Brainâs logical structure, to have Grace help Lin Xian avoid crises consistently. It was simply unbelievable.
"Now, how do you plan to respond?"
In the control room, Mochizuki Masashi looked at Lin Xian: "The Deep Red World should have a projected timeframe for Graceâs actions, and all those within our cityâs sight are watching the changes in the Cloud District. I think, soon enough, even if I donât lift the microwave shield, Zhou Mingyuan and the Deep Red Worldâs actions will arrive."
"Hey, do your predictions only go until 1 a.m.?"
Lin Xian walked over to Grace, observing the ballerina-bodied robot with personality awareness, and couldnât help but say to Mochizuki Masashi: "Canât it be any longer?"
Mochizuki Masashi said, "Do I need to discuss with you over my computations, which exceed 360,000 conclusions per second?"
"Then forget it."
Mochizuki Masashi opened the holographic screen. At this moment, on the upper armored deck, all teams, including the personnel from Silent City, stood guard against the surrounding night with serious expressions. The entire mechanical metropolis was in an emergency state of combat readiness.
"Your team and allies are all responding passively; this isnât your usual style of operation, is it?"
Hearing this, Lin Xian frowned and turned to look at Mochizuki Masashi.
"Why do I feel like youâre trying to lead me on?"
Mochizuki Masashi smiled leisurely, raised his hand with a gesture, and a drone carried a cup of hot tea from the corridor to Lin Xianâs front: "Iâm just very interested in enriching my thought processes through learning about your decisions. For instance, in the previous Star Abyss crossing plan, even with 30,000 quantum volume calculation units, I certainly wouldnât arrive at such a conclusion."
