Chapter 528: Radiation Zone
Lucienâs heart pounded like a war drumâhe was out of options, nowhere left to run.
âHey! You know where we can find a meteorite?â Mia called out, her tone casual but eyes sharp.
âEven if I did, Iâd never tell you,â Lucien spat, defiant to the end. âLord Monroe will punish you all. Youâll be buried on this island forever.â
âGod, you talk too muchâŠâ Mia muttered, then lunged forward, her katana slicing through the air in a deadly arc.
Lucien tried to dodge, but the Domain of the Dead hit him like a mountain crashing down. The weight of it crushed his body, locking him in place.
He couldnât move. Couldnât even blink. All he could do was watch helplessly as the bladeâs gleam closed in.
Then the world spun. In the final second before blacking out, he saw his own headless body collapse to the ground.
With Ethan and Mia working in perfect sync, Lucien didnât stand a chance. He was cut down in a single, brutal instant.
The remaining vampires, already terrified after Ethanâs earlier rampage, completely lost their nerve when they saw Lucien fall. Whatever fight they had left vanished.
They scattered in all directions, desperate to escape.
But the humans surrounding them werenât about to let them go. Shouts of vengeance rang out as they closed in, hacking the vampires to pieces with wild fury.
Within minutes, it was over.
The town had undergone a full-scale purge. Every last vampire was wiped outânone survived.
People stood panting, blood-smeared and exhausted, but their eyes gleamed with adrenaline and triumph.
âLucienâs dead! We won!â
âYEAHHHH!â
Cheers erupted all around.
Then, an elderly man stepped forward, bowing deeply before Ethan and the others. âMy Lord, please take this town under your rule. We are willing to offer our blood.â
Ethan blinked. âWhatâs he saying?â
Oliver translated, âBasically, they want you to keep them as livestock.â
Ethan stared at him, dumbfounded. âSeriously? Are they addicted to being farmed or something?â
He shook his head. Their blood meant little to him. He wasnât here to play vampire lordâhe was after the Radiant Crystal. No way he was trading the big prize for scraps.
âTell him weâre leaving tomorrow.â
âGot it.â Oliver relayed the message.
The old man looked lost, like someone had just pulled the ground out from under him.
âThen⊠who do we give our blood to now?â
âŠ
Meanwhile, Ethan, Mia, and the rest were already heading toward the castle.
They planned to rest there for the nightâand maybe loot the place while they were at it. Who knew what kind of valuables a vampire lord mightâve hoarded?
âIâm great at treasure hunting,â Sean said with a goofy grin. âBet thereâs a ton of good food in there.â
âYou and your stomach,â Chris scoffed. âWe should be rescuing some damsels in distress. Perfect night for a little⊠quality time.â
He rubbed his hands together, grinning.
Brandon shot him a look. âUncle Chris, you better be careful. Vampires are masters of disguise. If any of them are still alive, they might just bite your dick off.â
Chris winced. âShit⊠you might be right.â
Heâd survived worse, but getting taken out by a sneaky bloodsucker in the bedroom? Thatâd be a hell of a way to go.
Griffin chuckled. âIf that happens, youâll be Busted Balls #3.â
âPiss off,â Chris muttered, laughing despite himself. Still, he made a mental noteâon this island, the prettier they are, the deadlier. No more falling for that trap.
The group stepped into the lavish old castle, wandering through its grand halls while casually looting anything that looked useful.
Mia entered a spacious, luxurious room. The air was thick with a strange scent. The walls were lined with oil paintingsâexplicit onesâand hung with all sorts of odd items.
Whips. Handcuffs. Ropes. Ball gags.
âInterrogation chamber?â she wondered aloud. âMight be some intel hidden around here. Better search thoroughlyâŠâ
A few minutes later, Oliver came running out, arms full of papers, grinning like a kid on Christmas morning.
âFound it! I found it! Thereâs a map of the island and a bunch of intel on the vampires!â
âWhat kind of intel?â Ethan and Chris hurried over.
Oliver beamed. âThis stuff could really help with our next move. Take a look.â
Chris grumbled, âIf I could read it, I wouldnât need you, would I?â
The documents and maps were mostly in English, but some notes were scribbled in native dialects, Spanish, and Italian. It was a multilingual messâbut it might just hold the key to what came next.
âOh, Iâll translate then,â Oliver said with an awkward chuckle.
Good thing he was fluent in sixteen languagesâfinally, that brain of his was pulling its weight.
He flipped through the documents, eyes scanning quickly. âOkay, so⊠turns out Lucienâs family wasnât at the top of the food chain. They answered to someone named Monroe. Heâs the real power on this islandâthe top dog, the absolute overlord of the vampire factions.â
âMonroeâŠâ Ethan repeated, the name already sounding like trouble.
âYeah,â Oliver continued, âhis base is in a city not far from here. And get thisâhe runs seven of these âfarmsâ like the one we just cleared out.â
âSeven?â Mia raised an eyebrow.
âYup. All of them funnel crystal cores and blood straight to the city on a regular schedule. Itâs a whole supply chain. Thatâs how Monroeâs built up so much powerâconstant resources, nonstop.â
âNo wonder heâs untouchable,â Brandon muttered. âIf heâs the islandâs top predator, heâs gotta be at least SS-rank.â
Chris leaned in, frowning. âHow many zombies does he have under his command?â
Oliver shook his head. âNo idea. The records donât say. But itâs safe to assume the numberâs been growing over time. And thereâs moreâMonroeâs vampires only control half the island.â
Ethanâs eyes narrowed. âWhat about the other half?â
Oliver hesitated, then pointed to a section of the map marked in red. âThis area hereâitâs called the Radiation Zone. No one controls it. Itâs full of mutated creatures, and no one really knows whatâs in there.â
âRadiation Zone?â Ethan echoed, unfamiliar with the term.
Elara, whoâd been quiet until now, finally spoke up. âSome meteorites carry high levels of radiation. When they crash, they contaminate the area. Any living thing exposed to that radiation can mutate. Thatâs how the Radiation Zone formed. If weâre looking for the Radiant Crystal, itâs probably in there.â
Oliver nodded. âAnd itâs not just radiation. There was a wildfire there a while backâburned for a whole month. Now itâs all scorched earth. A total death zone.â
âJesusâŠâ Chris muttered, eyes wide. âHow the hell are we supposed to get in there?â
Oliver flipped to another page. âOh, and thereâs something else. Besides the vampires, there are zombies on the island too. According to Lucienâs ledgers, their supply runs to the city were often ambushed by a rogue zombie faction.â
Ethan nodded slowly. Heâd heard something like that before. At Lucienâs dinner party, a kid had mentioned his mom getting torn apart by zombies during a supply runâand said he was already looking for a new one to replace herâŠ
Everything about these vampires was twisted.
Chris let out a low whistle. âSo there are zombies out here bold enough to jack Monroeâs shipments? Damn⊠these arenât your average shamblers. Theyâve got balls.â
âŠ
Hereâs a redemption code for everyone:
