Wen Yu had gone completely mad.
He felt more and more that fortune was smiling upon him. First, it was the Soul Master profession. Then, it was the accumulation of points at the police station. And now, he was here, picking up corpses.
In this life, I must make sure to worship all the gods and buddhas fervently,
he resolved.
Wen Yu started his killing spree in areas Simba hadnât visited, watching the number of zombies dwindle.
It wasnât until a Level one zombie scratched his arm that Wen Yu realized he had picked up all the corpses from the ground.
Looking back reluctantly at the ground, now picked clean of zombies, Wen Yu suddenly felt that Simba didnât seem so terrifying after all.
What a nice lion, so good, so big, so cute,
he thought.
Wen Yu practically drooled as he checked his points, which had reached 1,865.
While Wen Yu was continuously praising Simba, a bright silver light suddenly appeared in the distance.
Then Wen Yu saw a huge vortex. Standing outside the park, he could clearly see the upper third of it.
Has the treasure land opened? That Simba, such a big and wonderful lion, shouldnât come back again, right?
It was as if he were hypnotizing himself. Wen Yu was no longer as cautious as before. The massive reward from scavenging had robbed him of his reason.
Letâs have a look, just a quick peek,
he thought. Greed overtook Wen Yuâs mind, making him rush toward where the treasure land had opened.
ă...ă
Far away, a silver light was shining.
Guan Tao and the others stared in stunned silence at the giant vortex that had suddenly appeared.
"This is it! This is it, but itâs much bigger!" Guan Tao exclaimed.
He carefully scrutinized the silver vortex before him.
"But, Little Ping, how did you do it?"
"It wasnât anything much," Wanping replied. "I just reached the place, and the pointer suddenly burst open. The pointer must be some kind of key."
Looking at Wanpingâs empty hands, the four of them felt as if the whole world had become strange.
"This is too fantastical!" one of them remarked.
Wanping ignored his teammatesâ complaints and carefully observed the silver vortex.
It seems Brother Tao didnât lie, but what exactly is this thing?
he wondered.
"Who cares what it is? Weâll know when we go in and take a look!" Guan Tao didnât bother with such details and directly reached out to touch the entrance of the treasure land.
Then, under the astonished gazes of the other three, he was sucked into the treasure land.
The remaining three stared at each other. "A living person... just gone like that?" one of them muttered in disbelief.
"We have no choice. Since Brother Tao has gone in, letâs enter too," Wanping said decisively to the other two, simultaneously reaching for the entrance of the treasure land.
Feeling helpless, Wanâan and Lin Li followed Wanping into the treasure land one after another.
ă...ă
After a while, Wen Yu hurriedly arrived, looking at the giant vortex in front of him.
This should be a large treasure land; I just donât know what type it is. Could I, Wen Yu, enter a treasure mountain and return empty-handed? Absolutely not!
Evidently, Wen Yu had once again selectively forgotten what he had just said.
ă...ă
With the few intruders entering the treasure land, Riverside Park became tranquil once more. In the large and empty park, no sign of life remained.
At the main entrance of the park, along the path Wen Yu had taken while collecting corpses, a shadow stretched longer and longer under the moonlight. A huge figure then leisurely walked among the scattered corpses and blood, slowly appearing at the parkâs main entrance.
This was a large grey dog.
It stood as tall as a man, its powerful body covered in mottled grey fur. Its four huge paws had sharp claws that glinted coldly. It held half of a mutant catâs body in its blood-red maw. Its single remaining amber eye kept scanning the surroundings.
If Wen Yu saw this large dog, he would definitely praise his own deduction. Cyclops was indeed looking for him.
After recovering from its injuries, the beast had tracked Wen Yu by the scent he left behind.
Cyclops slowly approached the treasure land Wen Yu had entered. The scent ended here.
Although the entire park was filled with an oppressive, panic-inducing, even deadly atmosphere, Cyclopsâs keen sense of smell told it that the terrifying presence had left some time ago.
And that human had inflicted this pain on it.
This pain brought Cyclops back to its youth, to the time a human had poked out one of its eyes. It was a pain even more agonizing than that.
How could Cyclops forget such agony?
So, it had come. It had come to exact revenge on that human.
As a Level 2 mutant beast.
ă...ă
"DING! Welcome to the Level 1 Large Treasureland."
"This treasure land is a challenge type and is only open to humans."
Just as Wen Yu recovered from the dizziness caused by the teleportation, he heard the notification in his ear.
It really is a Level 1 Large Treasureland,
Wen Yu thought, remembering the rumors from his previous life about the various treasures contained in such places.
Looking around, he saw that the treasure land was extraordinarily spacious, at least the size of a football field.
However, most of the space was occupied by a large arena.
In front of the arena was a Stone Platform, similar to an Exchange Stone Pillar, with four people standing before it.
It was Guan Tao and the other three, who had entered the treasure land ahead of him.
They all looked at Wen Yu with surprise, evidently not believing that someone could have entered the inner part of the park so quickly.
Wen Yu was also surprised; he hadnât expected anyone to be faster than him.
What Wen Yu didnât know was that without these four people, he would never have been able to enter this treasure land.
"Big Brother, how did someone else get in? Didnât we open this treasure land?" Lin Li glared fiercely at Wen Yu, his eyes like those of someone whose treasure had just been stolen by a robber.
"How should I know?" Guan Tao scratched his head, visibly vexed by Wen Yuâs arrival. "But it doesnât seem like there was any rule against others entering, right?"
"Little Ping, what should we do?" Guan Tao passed the complex problem to Wanping.
Wanping silently observed the man who had suddenly appeared.
The man was tall and thin, and his reasonably complete gear showed he was daring and possessed strong combat abilities. The small black sphere on his shoulder gave off a mysterious aura. Most importantly, his eyes showed no nervousness or caution when facing the four of them, only calmness. This was what made Wanping hesitate to act rashly.
"Donât act rashly," Wanping said quietly to his companions. "Letâs assess his strength first. Besides, weâve all seen the rules on the Stone Pillar, right? If his strength isnât up to par, we can kill him once weâre outside the treasure land and take his things. Lin Li still doesnât have a protective suit!"
Anyone who mistook these men for harmless gentlemen would be sorely mistaken.
The group muttered amongst themselves for a moment.
Guan Tao stepped forward, "Friend, donât be nervous. We also just entered not too long ago. The treasure land has rules that prohibit humans from killing each other. So, you donât have to worry about your safety."
Guan Tao spoke very sincerely, and his honest, trustworthy face made it easy for people to believe him.
But Wen Yu sneered inwardly.
Worry about *my* safety? If I hadnât already known what a challenge-type treasure land was like, I would have slaughtered you weaklings long ago. There wouldnât have been time for all this blabbering.
His year in the apocalypse hadnât been for nothing. Looking at these men, Wen Yu knew that while they might not be outright villains, they were definitely not good people.
However, if these people manage to get their hands on anything good, I canât let them take it away once weâre out of this treasure land,
he resolved.
