As Jiang Yunâer subconsciously leaned over and ducked toward Lin Fengâs crotch, a streak of cyan light flashed past, hugging the observation deckâs outer armor.
The flat, sharp tips of its limbs scraped against the railingâs armor, sending up a shower of sparks just inches from the top of Jiang Yunâerâs head.
Had she been half a second later, the blade-like limb would have decapitated her. She would have been beyond saving.
Of course, the Cyan-winged Zergâs attack pattern was to use the momentum from a high-speed dive, pull up close to the surface, and then execute a reaping attack in a straight, hook-shaped glide.
This prevented it from smashing its head into the ground and killing itself.
However, this added a delay to its attack preparation. Even though its instantaneous glide speed could approach the speed of sound, the one or two seconds it took to pull up gave its target time to react.
Especially since Lin Feng had been on guard the whole time.
He just hadnât expected the Cyan-winged Zerg to be so clever and cunning. It had discovered the battle here long ago, yet it had spent the entire time hovering directly above the armed RV.
The roof of the observation deckâs hatch was Lin Fengâs only blind spot. It was only about ten square meters, and he wouldnât normally stick his head out to check it.
He never thought the Cyan-winged Zerg would use this blind spotâthe darkest place being under the lampâto lay an ambush.
âFortunately, the one risking her neck was just Jiang Yunâer. Even if she had actually died, Lin Feng would at most have felt a flicker of regret for her rare Spiritual Superpower.â
âHis brief warning had been pure instinct. If Jiang Yunâer managed to seize the opportunity, it just meant it wasnât her time to die.â
Thanks to Lin Fengâs shouted warning, Jiang Yunâer had narrowly dodged the Cyan-winged Zergâs surprise attack.
She felt a fierce wind rush past her head, and then sparks of molten shrapnel rained down on her neck and chest, searing small, crimson marks into her skin...
Wincing in pain, Jiang Yunâer looked up, confused. She saw a blackened, warped gash on the armored guardrail above her, still smoking faintly. A wave of terror washed over her in hindsight.
Her hands, clutching Lin Fengâs pants, tightened their grip.
Lin Fengâs brow furrowed slightly as he reminded her,
"How much longer are you going to hold on? Get in here already! The Cyan-winged Zergâs next attack is coming!"
Hearing his urgent tone, Jiang Yunâer shuddered. Her whole body was still outside the observation deck. âIf that bizarre cyan light had been just a bit lower,â she thought, âhow could my small frame have possibly compared to this armor?â
Desperate to save her own life, Jiang Yunâer couldnât be bothered with dignity.
She had already lost so much just to survive this crisis; swallowing her pride one more time made no difference.
And so, without the slightest hesitation, she dove headfirst between his legs and into the vehicle.
Lin Feng blinked, then burst out laughing.
"Next time you do that, give me a heads-up. Iâll want to get my phone out and record the spectacular moment."
Jiang Yunâer suppressed her fear and reached up to touch her forehead. In her frantic dive, she thought sheâd bumped her head against Lin Fengâs thigh.
Hearing his taunt, the joy she felt from surviving her near-death experience evaporated. Mortified, she shot back breathlessly,
"You like having people dive between your legs that much? Watch out for crotch rot."
Lin Feng shrugged and glanced behind them at the relentlessly pursuing Black Spine Zerg Swarm. Several Heavy Machine Guns were still spitting flames, holding back their advance.
But that wasnât the only source of the threat.
The Cyan-winged Zerg from before wasnât alone. After its failed attack, more and more cyan shadows appeared over the RV, searching for weak points in the armor and waiting for a chance to dive.
Lin Feng nudged the starletâs foot with his own.
"Can you stand up?"
Jiang Yunâer shook her head. She really couldnât go on. The continuous, high-intensity battles, coupled with several near-death experiences...
For an inexperienced Enhanced Person like her, all of her bodyâs potential had been exhausted. Her only hope would be to achieve her Tier One Awakening right now.
Seeing her lying on the floor like a dead fishâuseless and in the wayâLin Feng showed no patience. He grabbed her by the shoulders, hauled her up, and unceremoniously dumped her in front of a Machine Cannon.
"Then donât stand, just sit. See these two buttons? Thatâs the trigger. Press them both with both hands!"
"Aim at the Black Spine Zerg Swarm behind us! Shoot the ones in the front!"
"Just press it once at a time, got it?!"
Lin Fengâs voice was so loud it drowned out the nearby Heavy Machine Guns, snapping Jiang Yunâer to her senses.
Seeing his fearsome expression, she nodded quickly to show that she understood.
Lin Feng took a deep breath, his tone icy.
"Make yourself useful. Otherwise, youâll end up just like that employee you threw out earlier."
Startled, Jiang Yunâer quickly placed her hands where Lin Feng had indicated and began to aim and fire.
With the added firepower of the Machine Cannon, the pursuing Black Spine Zerg Swarm was quickly suppressed. Lin Feng walked to the edge of the observation deck and shouted down to Chen Yanyan:
"Divert half the Heavy Machine Guns to fire at the sky! Aim if you can, but if you canât find a target, just spray wildly!!"
Lin Feng knew Chen Yanyan could only divide her attention so much; she couldnât possibly drive while also shooting backward and at the sky simultaneously. The Cyan-winged Zergs were extremely difficult to target, and her visibility from the driverâs cabin was limited.
Having her divert five Heavy Machine Guns to fire at the sky was merely to disrupt the Cyan-winged Zergsâ attacks.
After all, the Divine-level Pistol Replicas had unlimited ammunition and no Cooling time. Even though their Damage was only 40, it would only take one or two shots to destroy the low-Defense Power Cyan-winged Zergsâ Flying Ability.
By diverting five Heavy Machine Guns to suppress the Cyan-winged Zergsâ assault and restrict their movements, Lin Feng could lock onto them using the Eye of Death, an Extra Attribute of his Level 17 Grenade Cannon, for pre-aimed targeting.
However, the pistol in his hand had just finished its Upgrade:
[Grenade Cannon LV 18/19, Red Quality]
[Upgrade Points: 37/10, Damage: 170, Effective Range: 8 km, Remaining Bullets: 4500/4500]
[Extra Attributes: Bullet Recovery 1/s, Spatial Magazine 4500 reserve, Eye of the Death God 0/50, Firepower Coverage Damage 30+20/s]
[New Firepower Coverage Change: Covering Area upgraded to 1,000 square meters]
[Evaluation: This is a super-weapon with the power of a 155mm Grenade Cannon. Its bullets have been enhanced multiple times, creating a 10-meter-diameter blast of destruction upon impact. Kill targets to gain Upgrade Points.]
This Upgrade had directly increased its Basic Damage by 20. With 170 Damage, Lin Feng could now take out even a Tier One Late Stage Black Spine Zerg with a single shot.
The other stats hadnât changed much, but for the Firepower Coverage attribute, both the base damage and charged damage had increased by ten points.
A one-second charge could now unleash an area-of-effect attack dealing 50 Damage.
And most importantly, the Covering Area had increased tenfold. Against a dense Swarm, he could now hit over a hundred Black Spine Zergs at once.
With 50 Damage per square meter, each Black Spine Zerg would take at least 200 points of Damage.
When it came to repelling the Zerg Raceâs offensive, Firepower Coverage was definitely far more useful than the Eye of the Death God.
For anti-air combat, however, the Cyan-winged Zergs were several times faster than the Black Spine Zergs, and their flight patterns were difficult to predict.
Against highly mobile enemies, the usefulness of the Eye of the Death God became apparent.
After spending only a second or two reviewing the changes to its Attributes and initiating the next round of Upgrades, Lin Feng raised the dark muzzle and activated the Eye of the Death God on the cyan lights darting across the sky.
In an instant, his consciousness fused with the pistol, entering a transcendent state where man and weapon became one.
One, two, three...
The flight paths of the Cyan-winged Zergs grew clear in his vision. Each completed pre-aim locked onto a target for a tracking headshot.
Fifteen seconds later, when there were no new targets left in his field of vision, Lin Feng pulled the trigger...
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Fifteen shots in a row!
Fifteen fiery, dazzling fireballs, each ten meters in diameter, blossomed in the sky.
Seeing the Cyan-winged Zergs utterly annihilated, turned to dust without a trace, the corners of Lin Fengâs mouth turned up slightly.
âAs expected,â he thought. âInstead of increasing precision by a factor of ten, itâs far better to just increase the kill radius tenfold.â
