The officer laid down the cards he was holding, “Now?”

After delivering the message, the soldier departed. The officer set aside the cards in his hand and spoke softly to Xiao’ai, “Little friend, uncle has to go to work now and can’t play with you anymore.”

“Let’s go inside, and you’ll know why,” Wang Jun replied.

“Yes, sir.”

Side by side, the two men walked to the entrance where Guard Guozi promptly opened the door for them, “Company Commander Wang, Company Commander Ji!”

Inside, Tang Zelin and Political Commissar Qu Guo’an were discussing. Hearing the noise at the door, Qu Guo’an pointed toward the entrance, “Old Wang is here.”

Wang Jun led Ji Dong in.

“Third company’s Company Commander Wang Jun reporting!”

“First company’s Company Commander Ji Dong reporting!”

Tang Zelin returned their salute with a smile, “Let’s sit down and talk.”

Qu Guo’an directed them to two seats, and both men sat down.

Qu Guo’an looked to Tang Zelin, “Do you want to tell them or should I?”

“You go ahead,” Tang Zelin said.

“Alright.”

Qu Guo’an turned to Wang Jun and Ji Dong, “Here’s the situation. After the disaster hit City C, the local medical supplies weren’t enough, so the government requested additional supplies from neighboring provinces. Control medications and emergency supplies, along with donated relief materials, departed the day before yesterday. They were supposed to arrive yesterday but haven’t yet. It looks like there’s been a problem along the way. We’ve called Company Commander Ji here to assign you the mission of recovering these supplies as soon as possible. Do you have the confidence to complete the task?”

Ji Dong responded, “Mission guaranteed to be completed!”

Qu Guo’an chuckled, “Then we’ll leave it in the capable hands of Company Commander Ji.”

Sitting behind his desk, Tang Zelin timely interjected, “The cargo went missing while transitioning through Province T en route to Province H. With the recent earthquake in neighboring Province E, and those two provinces connecting, someone dared to target military supplies. They’re not ordinary people. You must be extremely cautious on this trip. You are permitted to carry firearms for the mission.”

Ji Dong glanced at Company Commander Wang next to him.
