It didnât take long for the Lowell Family to learn about Paige Summersâs collaboration with the Mercer Family.
She wasnât sure how they found out. It could only be one of two ways: either the Mercer Family told them, or the Lowell Family got the news through their own channels.
This originally had nothing to do with her. âIf they knew, they knew.â She hadnât even truly accepted Wendy Lowell, only treating her with more politeness and gratitude than before. She was grateful for Wendyâs genuine love for her daughter, as it allowed her to gain energy. As for anything else, there was nothing, especially not when it came to the rest of the Lowell Family.
After meeting a prime example like Wendell Lowell, she really didnât have high hopes for the rest of the Lowell Family!
But one day, Blake Morrison ran over to her with a troubled look on his face. "Old Master Lowell wants to see you... Donât blame me for being a messenger! I couldnât help it. I canât stand to see an old man pleading like that. How about you make some time to meet him just once? Itâs not like they can do anything to you. All they want is for you to return to the Lowell Family..."
That was easy for him to say, but this kind of thing was a real pain!
Besides, seeing the look on Blake Morrisonâs face, Paige Summers felt a little bad for him.
It was embarrassing to trouble someone else with her personal affairs, especially a business partner. Even if she refused this time, it wasnât like sheâd have any peace and quiet in the future. It was better to just get it over with and make things clear once and for all.
Thinking of this, she nodded, then asked, "Is this Old Master the one who calls the shots in the Lowell Family now?"
Seeing her agree, Blake Morrison finally relaxed.
"Yeah. He does for the big stuff, but not necessarily the small things." Blake Morrison began to tell her what he knew. "Old Master Lowell only has one biological daughter, Wendy Lowell. Sooner or later, a daughter will marry out, so... you know. He planned ahead, gathering many children from the Lowell Familyâs branch families to live with him since they were young. Of course, theyâre all grown up now and are doing pretty well. Three of them are the most prominent. One is Nathan Lowell; heâs in the Central City Governmentâs Material Control Department. Another is Shannon Lowell, whoâs also in The Central Government, at the Superpower User Management Headquarters. And thereâs Leland Lowell, whoâs in the Government Security Department. As for the Lowell Familyâs next generation..."
Blake Morrison shook his head. "There really isnât anyone outstanding among them. A couple have good character and volunteered to train with The Power Corps, but unfortunately, their aptitude is lacking, so they havenât made any significant achievements." This was likely one of the reasons Old Master Lowell wanted to acknowledge Paige Summers. The man was incredibly perceptive; otherwise, why not ask to see her sooner, or later? Why specifically ask right after learning she was collaborating with the Mercer Family? And he had done so in a way that was beyond reproach. After all, he was Paige Summersâs biological grandfather!
"Then, whose child is Wendell Lowell?"
Blake Morrison paused, then rubbed his chin. "Oh, you know him? Heâs Leland Lowellâs eldest son. The kidâs not a bad person, just... up here..." He pointed to his head. "Heâs really stupid. I remember he also has a younger sister. Sheâs pretty cute. When she was little, she was totally smitten with Finn, always shouting that she wouldnât marry anyone but him!"
I see.
Paige thought, âI think Iâve figured out why Wendell Lowell came to provoke me. Itâs probably related to my status in the Lowell Family and his sisterâs crush.â
âHe really is an idiot, though.â
âItâs not like others arenât jealous. Didnât Blake say two others besides his father are also doing well? The children from other families can keep their cool, but he just canât.â
âHmph. He deserved to be taken down a peg!â
Afterward, Blake Morrison rambled on about some other Lowell Family matters. In short, while the Lowell Family couldnât be considered a major family in Central City, they certainly had a foothold.
In particular, the Lowell Familyâs relationship with the Mercer Family was special, so they were able to benefit from the association.
Paige Summers understood why Blake Morrison was being so considerate. He simply didnât want to see her clash with the Lowell Family.
After all, the Mercer Family owed them a debt of gratitude.
Over the years, although they had looked out for the Lowell Family, Old Master Lowell was a very tactful man. He never tried to leverage the favor for repayment, and the rare times he did ask for something, it was always for minor matters.
Therefore, everyone in the Mercer Family, from top to bottom, treated him with respect and courtesy.
If she insisted on having a falling-out with the Lowell Family, it would be awkward for everyone.
Paige Summers mulled it over for a while. She decided that as long as they werenât too outrageous and didnât try to cross her boundaries, it would be best to coexist peacefully.
With this mindset, the next day, she declined Marcus Monroeâs offer to accompany her and waited at home alone.
Old Master Lowell himself had proposed visiting her in person. He said he wanted to see her living environment and was also worried she would feel uncomfortable at the Lowell estate.
Judging from that alone, he seemed quite considerate.
But Paige Summers didnât believe for a second that he was such a simple person.
At ten in the morning, there was a punctual knock on the door.
