Ch.151Apostle of the Goddess of War
âPriestess.â
Sion bowed respectfully to Priestess Kaili.
It was the proper demeanor within the churchâ
especially since they werenât alone.
The Priestess was the avatar, the very incarnation of the Goddess.
Her image before the faithful had to at least resemble that of the deity herself.
Even if Tartaniaâfully aware of all their private circumstancesâwas watching,
Sion still retained an oddly traditional streak.
âAre you really going to act so distant, Brother?â
Kaili pouted. Sheâd grown noticeably taller since heâd last seen her.
No longer could anyone mistake her for a child.
She was transforming from a little girl into a graceful young womanâ
a change the faithful of Elim observed with quiet satisfaction.
âSorry.â
Sion hadnât yet adjusted to Kailiâs newfound delicacy.
Dealing with her now required more tenderness and familiarity than before.
Yet he remembered the promise heâd made back then:
when entrusting her with the lonely, heavy mantle of Priestess,
sheâd need a refuge for her heartâ
and that refuge was him, along with her sisters and brothers.
So he couldnât afford to act awkward.
He had to treat her as naturally as ever.
Casually, he spoke up.
âFinished your prayers?â
âYeah. Since the Goddess herself is in Elim, thereâs not much to pray for, really.
Itâs just part of the Priestessâs daily routine.â
Sion ruffled Kailiâs hair with a chuckle.
âYouâve worked hard.â
âHmph.â
Only then did Kaili finally smile in contentmentâ
and immediately clung to Sion, glaring pointedly at Tartania.
âBut Iâm exhausted because of that older sister.â
âOlder⊠sister?â
Sion glanced at Tartania.
She merely shrugged, her expression relaxed,
as if silently saying, âLook at these adorable kids.â
Not surprising, really.
She was a Goddess whoâd lived for thousands of yearsâ
what could mere mortals say or do to truly affect her?
âI have to periodically purify her dark energy and heal herâdo you have any idea how toxic it is?â
âHa⊠haâŠâ
Well, she was an Evil God.
That was only to be expected.
Truthfully, if Tartania had been in her full, uncorrupted state,
even the Priestess wouldnât have been able to do a thing.
And yetâeven now, having discarded her divine vessel and exposed her entrailsâ
she remained this potent.
âYou holding up okay?â
Sion was genuinely worried for Kaili.
She gave a slow, confident nod.
âOf course. Iâm of age now. Itâs just that ill-tempered older sister whoâs a nuisance.â
âYouâre just as ill-tempered yourself.â
âSee that?!â
Kaili screeched at Sion like she was tattling.
Tartania, finding her utterly endearing, covered her mouth and giggled.
âAha~ha! Still, take good care of her. Despite appearances, sheâs now Elimâs guardianâand while Iâm away, sheâll be Elimâs strongest asset.â
âShe came from filth, though. How can we trust her?â
âYou can.â
Sion said it calmly, with absolute certainty.
Kaili looked at her brother with a sullen frownâ
then quickly steeled her resolve.
âIf Brother says so⊠then Iâll believe it.â
âYouâve raised your little sister well, havenât you?â
Tartania teased with a snort.
Kaili opened her mouth to retortâ
then chose to ignore it instead.
Sheâd recently realized that maintaining serene detachment in all things
was actually good for her mental discipline.
âI know you were once an Evil God, but pleaseâ
at least in Elimâtone down that nasty temperament.â
âOh my! Look at how fiercely protective you are of your little sister.
Iâm honestly getting jealous~â
âItâs part of our contract.â
Sion refused to play along with her teasing.
Since heâd entrusted Kaili into her care, he wanted absolute clarity.
The Evil God of Corruption quickly read the moodâand surrendered.
âAlright, alright. Iâll keep teasing, but you wonât have to worry about anything serious.â
âThank you, Lady Tartania.â
âCall me âolder sister.ââ
Ignoring that, Sion turned to Kaili.
âHowâs Ruina? Is she doing well?â
At the mention of Ruina, Kaili rolled her eyes dramatically.
âBrother, donât even get me started. Older sister-Ruina has totally lost it.â
âWhat happened?â
âShe took over the churchâand started running a business!â
Sion tilted his head, confused.
What did that even mean?
âThe merchant magnates from Foils came visiting, offering bribes and everything! Itâs like Older sister-Ruina has become some underworld tycoon.â
âWhat exactly has Ruina been doing?â
Kaili shook her head, just as bewildered.
âNo idea. Not my problem.â
Sion swallowed hard.
âWhat on earth is Ruina up to?â
He felt a sudden chillâ
had he accidentally shackled a business prodigy to the church?
âHumans really know how to live interesting lives. How fascinating.â
Tartania smirked, amused.
But neither Sion nor Kaili bothered engaging her.
The Evil God of Corruption sulked for a momentâ
then perked up again.
âWell⊠as long as everythingâs going smoothly.â
âOlder sister-Ruina got Older brother-Set watching over her, so itâll be fine.
By the way, Brotherâyouâre heading south next, right? To the marshlands.â
A cold shiver ran down Sionâs spine.
âKaili⊠you really know everything now, donât you?â
âIâm a Holy Apostle. Your future appears clearer to me.â
âManâŠâ
Sion was starting to find his siblings genuinely terrifying.
Set was still relatively humanâbut even he was growing at an unnatural pace, by human standards.
He was already eyeing the position of War Knights commander.
Sion could only pray this future would come to pass.
âThe shard is near the Church of Fireâs territory. I need to recover it quickly.â
âHmmâŠâ
Kaili furrowed her brow.
âI sense something ominous⊠fire⊠and some lurking evil.â
âYour premonitions are usually accurate, right?â
âLately, almost always.â
âHow remarkable,â Tartania chimed in beside them.
Sion turned to her.
âAre all Priestesses like this?â
âShe has an unusually wide spiritual channel connected directly to the Goddess.
Sheâs exceptionally gifted.â
âHehe~â Tartania gave a seductive smile and added,
âYouâd do well to heed her warning. I, too, sensed something unsettling in the southâfamiliar energies growing stronger.â
âThank you, Lady Tartania.â
Sion ended the conversation.
If evil presences were stirring, speed was essential.
âBe careful, Brother. Iâll pray for you.â
âThanks. Take care.â
Sion exchanged farewells with Kaili.
âSee you~ Sion!â
Tartania lazily waved goodbye as he departed.

Later, Sion completed his preparations and left Elim.
He traveled alongside the War Knightsâ
their southern marshland patrol coincided perfectly with his mission.
Kegan, marching beside him, spoke up.
âWeâve recently started cooperating with the Church of Fire on marshland patrols.
They cover the southern half; we take the north.â
âWhen was this arranged?â
Sion was genuinely surprised.
He was only now realizing just how much the Church of War had accomplished without his knowledge.
No wonder Bishop Gustein was always drowning in alcohol and exhaustionâthe manâs workload was truly beyond imagination.
And Ruinaâs administrative brilliance, which had supported him so flawlessly, now seemed even more chilling in hindsight.
With the growing influx of religious refugees, the quality and quantity of recruits were steadily improving.
One could safely say Elimâs revival was already underway.
âIt just happened gradually. Ever since the Apostleâs last feat, weâve had to step up our vigilance.â
âI see. Thatâs good to hearâhonestly, I had no idea.â
âYouâre far too busy, Apostle. You donât need to bother with such details.â
After all, this was where an ancient demon lay slumberingâ
increased patrols were inevitable.
But forging cooperation with the Church of Fire?
That was pure administrative prowess.
âThe last patrol was three weeks ago. We received reports of several demons slain then.â
Keganâs voice carried concern.
âBut the Church of Fire has also reported rising demon activity, so I decided to inspect the area personally.â
âConvenientâIâm heading that way myself.â
âIndeed.â
To Sion, Kegan felt reassuringly solid.
Without him, Master Garfennâs absence wouldâve weighed unbearably heavy.
Thanks to Kegan, the War Knights were growing strongerâ
and executing their duties without a hitch.
Sion truly only needed to focus on his role as Apostle now.
âLetâs go take a look. In turbulent times like these, itâs best to settle things decisively.â
âYou could just turn back, you know. No need to waste your time.â
Kegan treated Sion with greater reverence nowâ
his demeanor shifting ever since Sionâs formal appointment as Apostle.
He clearly regarded him as a superior officer now.
Grateful, Sion replied earnestly,
âActually, cutting straight through the marsh is faster. Time is critical for shard recovery.â
He recalled the radiant energy pulsing through his bodyâ
an intense, gravitational pull drawing him southward.
The shard lay beyond the marshlandsâ
and judging by location alone, the Church of Fire mightâve already secured it.
But heâd learn the truth soon enough.
Kegan stroked his neatly groomed mustache thoughtfully.
âUnderstood. Iâll ensure the knights donât hinder your mission.â
âHa! Iâm counting on you.â
* * *
A murmur rippled through the ranks.
âSeriously? Did I hear that right?â
âThey say the Apostle himself will patrol the marshes with us!â
âUnbelievable!â
âThis is an honor for my house!â
âOh! The Goddess of War walks with us!â
The knights buzzed with excitement at Sionâs words.
Their eyes burned with renewed fervor.
This was no ordinary patrolâ
the famed Apostle of the Goddess of War himself was joining them.
For newly recruited knights, Sion was a living legend:
The liberator of Kashibelli Rock.
The slayer of Evil Gods and their Apostles in the Holy Kingdom.
His exploits had already become a myth among the ranks.
Now, not only would they march alongside himâ
they might even fight side by side.
How could their hearts not blaze with passion?
Kegan glanced back and chuckled.
âYou have no idea how popular youâve become lately.â
To Sion, it all still felt strange.
It always hadâand still did.
Fervent praise and adoration were things heâd never truly adapt to.
âHaâŠâ
He gave an awkward smile and looked ahead.
Beside him, Goddess Achille floated gently, smiling fondly.
[My Apostle⊠your shyness is utterly adorable.]
âGoddess, please donât tease me. Unlike you, I donât enjoy fame or praise.â
[That only makes you even more adorable.]
Sion shut his ears.
[S-Sion]
The Goddess sounded on the verge of tears.

On the way to the marshlands, Sion initiated light sparringâ
partly to stretch his limbs, partly to assess the knightsâ skills and offer guidance.
None lasted beyond three exchanges.
Three exchanges was the mark of an elite warrior.
And even then, Sion had only been warming up.
For the knights, it was an invaluable experience.
Facing the Apostle firsthand, they vaguely grasped just how high the mountain Sion had climbed.
Several whoâd once dreamed of becoming the next Apostle now humbly redirected their ambitions toward becoming Knight-Captain instead.
Before long, they entered the marshlands.
Half a day later, Kegan raised a handâ
halting the column with a silent signal.
Quick hand gestures followed.
The knights drew their weapons, forming disciplined ranks.
âDemons. Prepare for combatâŠâ
Kegan barked the order, posture rigid.
The knights exuded focused, tempered killing intent.
Sion admired their readinessâthen scanned the surroundings.
His hand briefly touched his sword hilt⊠then withdrew.
âLetâs test the Corrupted Sword.â
He reached into empty air.
His fingers brushed past every blade at his waistâ
except the short swordâ
and Achilleâs divine power guided his choice.
