After that, without any unnecessary words, they set off. Daniel first glanced at the map and asked the bone skull about any shortcut routes.
"Thereâs no shortcut to reach the region of the Dark Elves. The only way is to cross that stream that flows down from the mountain."
Daniel let out a sigh. Apparently, they had no choice but to walk the entire way. He could fly or use Vurak, but honestly, he still didnât trust these three, and he preferred not to show his true power for now.
"Oh right, you never introduced yourselves," Kaisen suddenly asked as they were walking.
"My name is Daniel, an otherworldly climber," Daniel gave a brief introduction.
"An otherworldly? I suppose that makes sense," Andreas nodded. After all, this was the central plains, their homeland.
Though at that moment, Daniel noticed something oddâLiaraâs guard toward him seemed to rise even more, and he could feel a faint trace of hostility from her.
But it vanished quickly, and Daniel didnât pay much attention to it. Even if something happened, these three were too weak to do anything.
"Anyway, I had a question. As members of a powerful family, didnât you have any way to save yourselves from the undead? Were you really ready to die?"
"We did have a way. All three of us carry a defensive item, but it only activates when weâre half a step from death," Andreas said with a bitter smile.
Daniel nodded. Just what youâd expect from the children of a powerful family. They reminded him of Aron.
After that, their path was more or less smoothâaside from encountering a few ghosts. But Liara and Andreas dealt with all of them, and Daniel didnât even need to get involved.
The only problem was that they had been walking for hours and were getting a bit tired, especially the three of them who hadnât had proper sleep in a while.
Fortunately, they reached a river flowing from the top of the mountain. Crossing it meant they would officially enter the Dark Elvesâ territory.
"If you want, we can rest here for a while," Daniel glanced at them. He could see the exhaustion in their eyes.
Andreas didnât respond immediately and looked over at Liara and Kaisen.
"Itâs better if we rest a little," Liara finally spoke. In their current state, they couldnât possibly fight against the Dark Elves.
Kaisen and Andreas agreed, and it was decided they would rest there for a while and maybe get some sleep.
Daniel didnât forget to ask the bone skull if the area was safe, and it answered that compared to the rest of the mountain, this place wasnât too bad.
Each of them pulled over a tree trunk and used it as a backrest. Daniel thought about starting a fire but gave up on the ideaâdoing so could attract beasts.
"Anyway, Iâve heard your family name a lot, but I never really understood the reason behind all the fame," Daniel looked at Andreas and asked.
Even back then, Kayn hadnât told him much about the Lionheart family.
"Oh? You donât know our family? Donât tell me you just arrived in our world?" Andreas looked at Daniel in surprise.
Daniel nodded.
"Well, our family is one of the four great families. Basically, weâre considered among the strongest families of the human raceâwell Not counting the royals, of course."
"Four great families?" A sign of surprise flashed in Danielâs eyes.
"Thatâs right. The Arcwaith family, the Garaldin family, the Lionheart family... There used to be one called Irenwald, but they lost their status. Now, a family called Almeren holds the fourth place," Andreas explained, which surprised Daniel.
âSo Evaâs family was one of the four great families. But a family with such a title was destroyed so easily by the church?â
Daniel gained a clearer understanding of the Church of Destinyâs powerâit had silently wiped out Evaâs family, a family once recognized as one of the four great ones.
Wasnât that power a bit too overwhelming?
He grew curious , Was the Church of Destiny truly so powerful that no other force could balance it out?
Or... were there forces just as strongâor even strongerâthat simply didnât care enough to do anything?
"What is this power and ranking based on?" Daniel asked.
"Itâs based on the number of true heroes each family has produced. In all of history, there have been nine heroes, and eight of them were born within these four families," Andreas answered.
"I wasnât expecting something so direct. Eight heroes born into four families? That sounds kind of stupid," Daniel frowned. He had expected heroes to be born more randomly.
"We donât know the reason either. Though the Almeren family has never produced a heroâthey only reached the fourth rank through pure power," Andreas said, though he didnât say everything.
In truth, it had been foretold that the last hero would be born into the Almeren family. But of course, you couldnât share that kind of information with outsiders.
"I see... So what about the hero without a background?"
"Well, that hero was the most mysterious and powerful of them all. No one knows anything about his background or even how he died. But he was the man who saved our world from the World Devouring Demon," Andreas said, with a flicker of admiration in his eyes.
"Oh? Iâve never heard of something like that," Daniel raised an eyebrow.
"Thatâs normal. A lot of time has passed since then. But even now, heâs still well-known and beloved throughout our world. Though most of his fame is because of his legacy."
"Legacy?"
"Yes. According to some rumors, before his death, he hid his legacy somewhere in the world. Over the years, many have tried to find it but failed. His legacy contains the most powerful sword ever createdâa sword even the gods fear," Andreas continued.
"A sword that even the gods fear? That sounds like an exaggeration."
"It does. But itâs a sword built upon the Supreme Law of Death. Naturally, itâs an unmatched masterpiece," Andreas nodded.
Law of Death, huh? That strangely reminded him of this mountainâespecially that bizarre, powerful aura of death.
