Chapter 1098: Everyday Conversation
Chen Yu let out an exaggerated sigh and said, âSo, you see, there was never anything wrong with that plot of land. All those rumorsâutter nonsenseâcompletely ruined me. Thatâs why I ended up transferring the entire project to Su Shen. Heâs always been the type who gets things done when others fail. Heâs not someone whose mind you can easily guess.â
He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice conspiratorially. âAnd donât forgetâSu Shen is famously henpecked. The main reason he bought that house was because of his wifeâs schooling needs. She wanted a private compound, close to the Imperial Capital University, but also quietâsomewhere serene but convenient. That place was perfect. And yes, it was Su Shen who personally decided to buy it. I just scouted the location for him. Who could possibly make decisions for him, anyway?â
Chen Xi, now better informed, gave a small nod and said wryly, âWell, hearing that, I suppose you still have a sliver of conscience left.â

Meanwhile, at the Su familyâs new residence, the newly renovated kitchen was finally complete.
Gu Zi stood in the doorway, hands on her hips, looking thoroughly pleased with the results. Su Shen had gone off to pay the workers, so Gu Zi busied herself with the kids, tidying up the new space. The kitchen would soon be fully operational.
Right on cue, Big Yellow ambled into the kitchen. Seeing that his beloved humans were all gathered here, he settled down comfortably, making it clear he had no plans to leave.
Gu Zi, in a particularly good mood, was simmering a rich pork bone soup. She picked out a massive marrow bone and tossed it to Big Yellow, who caught it gleefully and began gnawing with visible joy. Watching him, Gu Zi couldnât help but smile.
This place had few neighbors and a generous courtyard, which meant Gu Zi didnât have to tie Big Yellow up every day. Most of the time, the dog could roam freely around the house, and that was a wonderful little luxury for both of them.
Under the blooming crabapple tree in the courtyard, Su Shen had commissioned a full marble table-and-chair set. It was the perfect shaded spot to lounge in during the summer.
Not only that, but heâd even hung a punching bag from one of the thick branches. Whenever he had spare time, Su Shen would sternly supervise the kidsâ boxing training right there under the tree.
Su Li, for one, had filed numerous complaints to Gu Zi. âMom, Dad is so different in front of you. When youâre not around, heâs like a completely different person! He makes me do all sorts of chores. You have to get back at him for me! Next time, you should make him do some chores instead!â
Gu Zi was tickled by her sonâs indignation and whispered back with a chuckle, âAlright then, if I get the chance, Iâll definitely ask him to do something for us.â
But the very next day, Su Liâs training regime suddenly escalated in difficulty. Still, he chose to believe it was all part of Dadâs ânormalâ training plan rather than accept the more painful truthâthat his dear mother had betrayed him. Nowadays, his schedule was packed with daily workouts, his appetite was massive, and he was growing taller by the day.
Su Bing, on the other hand, stuck to his regular fitness routine, focusing more of his time on studying and experimenting with culinary creations. He wasnât worried about his heightâthanks to the balanced and healthy meals at home, he was bound to shoot up sooner or later.

Su Shenâs work in the capital had only just resumed, and his schedule was already back to early mornings and late nights.
But no matter how late it got, he always came home. And coming home didnât mean collapsing into bed. More often than not, he would still spend half an hour in his study poring over professional texts.
Gu Zi, seeing how hard he worked, would sometimes rise from bed to make him something sweet.
That evening, sheâd made mung bean cakes and sweet potato soup. As she stepped into the study, she noticed Su Shen absorbed in a foreign-language book. Curious, she asked, âWhy are you studying a foreign language? I thought you already had a solid foundation?â
Su Shen looked up, adjusted his glasses, and replied, âI do, but itâs mostly for everyday conversation and military jargon. Now that Iâm getting involved in imports and exports, I need to master the technical vocabulary as well. Canât let people take advantage of me because I donât understand the fine print.â
Gu Zi stared at him in awe. No wonder her husband could do everything.
She picked up a piece of mung bean cake and fed it to him with a laugh. âFor a moment there, I thought you were trying to get into university and become my classmate.â
Su Shen, without missing a beat, pulled her onto his lap and closed the book with one hand. After chewing and swallowing elegantly, he asked, âHowâs school been lately?â
Gu Zi draped her arms around him and answered, âItâs alright. The coursework isnât hard, but Iâm still getting used to being back in school. Oh, and tomorrow I have a full schedule. Iâll be back late in the afternoon, so youâll have to find time to pick up the kids. Thatâs allânow Iâm off to bed. Donât stay up too late reading.â
With that, she pranced off happily. Su Shen let out a quiet chuckle and, resigned to his fate, reopened the book and continued studying.

The next morning, after sending the kids off to school, Gu Zi headed to campus and made it just in time for her first class. She was majoring in foreign languages, and so were her roommates.
Every day, when she came back to the dorm for her midday break, the scene was the sameâone girl listening to cassette tapes, another reciting vocabulary words. The academic competitiveness was real.
Gu Zi, in contrast, usually tossed her textbooks aside the moment class ended. She had to admit, her attitude was a little too relaxed. So when her roommates asked if she wanted to revise together, she always declined, claiming she preferred to study at home in the evenings. But one thing was non-negotiableâshe needed her midday nap.
After the morning sessions, she went out for lunch with Tang Xue and a few others. As they dug into their meal, Tang Xue leaned over and asked, âGu Zi, thereâs a freshman mixer and dance party tonightâare you coming?â
