Chapter 1122: Female Secretary
The couple made their way to the kitchen, their conversation flowing effortlessly as they discussed recent events.
Gu Zi shared with Su Shen how she had reluctantly accepted the universityâs translation work and even disclosed the true reason behind Jiang Yaoâs attempt to climb the wall.
They were both so engrossed in their lively discussion that they hardly noticed the three Su siblings in the corner, exchanging knowing looks, their hearts heavy with a mixture of admiration and jealousy.
Clearly, their parents were deeply in love, while they, the children, were mere accessories to the grand story. The siblingsâ silent lament was almost palpableââWoe is usâŠâ they seemed to whisper in unison.
As they stewed in their self-pity, the three young ones turned their attention to cleaning up the mess left behind by the ongoing renovation of the experimental lab. They were determined to prove their worth. But just as they were starting to feel a sense of accomplishment, there was a knock on the door.
Su Bing, sensing the night was drawing near, hesitated to let the younger two open the door and decided to take matters into his own hands. He opened the door only to be confronted by a woman dressed in a sharp business suit, her smile impeccable and her posture radiating professionalism.
Su Bingâs expression turned wary. His eyes narrowed, and his voice was cold. âWho are you looking for?â
The womanâs smile didnât falter. Even in the face of his frosty reception, she remained composed. âYou must be Mr. Suâs eldest son, right? Iâve heard so much about you from your father. Iâm here to speak with himâplease, could you let me in and pass on a message?â
Su Bing eyed her suspiciously. It was late, and he couldnât fathom why anyone would be coming to see his father at this hour. âWhat do you need?â
At that moment, Su Li, oblivious to the tension in the air, bounded over from behind Su Bing and ran into the house, calling out enthusiastically, âMom, thereâs a lady here to see Dad! You should come out and take a look!â
The woman turned to Su Bing, her tone calm yet persistent. âYoung Master Su, this is a work-related matter. I really need to speak with your father. Please allow me to enter.â
Meanwhile, Gu Zi, having heard the commotion, exchanged a glance with Su Shen before walking out. As she stepped into the hallway, she saw the woman standing just inside the door.
The woman looked to be in her twenties, dressed in a professional suit, paired with a form-fitting skirt and black stockings. Her hair was styled in soft, mature waves, and her sharp eyes radiated competence.
Su Shen, following Gu Zi, looked at the woman and then turned his gaze back to Gu Zi. The woman, without acknowledging Gu Zi, stepped forward and addressed Su Shen. âMr. Su, Mr. Chen asked me to bring you this document. He needs you to sign it.â
She handed the file to Su Shen, her focus entirely on him, as if Gu Zi wasnât even there. Gu Zi, however, remained composed, standing next to Su Shen and silently watching the unfolding scene.
Su Shen, ever the gentleman, took the document and, without missing a beat, pulled Gu Zi closer. âThis is my wife,â he said firmly. âSince youâre assisting me, you should know who my wife is. Iâve received the file, and Iâll take it to Mr. Chen tomorrow. You may go now, and please rememberâunless itâs urgent, thereâs no need for such late-night deliveries in the future.â
The woman didnât seem bothered by Su Shenâs cold tone. Instead, she beamed a wide, ingratiating smile. âOf course, Mr. Su. And Mrs. Su, I apologize for the intrusion. Should you need anything, feel free to contact me anytime.â
Seeing that Gu Zi wasnât responding to her, Su Shen, clearly irritated, cut her off with a firm, âItâs late. You should head home now.â
The woman hesitated, casting a brief glance at Gu Zi before nodding and leaving. As her figure disappeared into the night, Gu Zi observed her with quiet calculation. Young, elegant, and beautiful, she was everything a man with money could attract. It wasnât a surprise, really; after all, wealth had its way of drawing such attention.
Su Shen, sensing Gu Ziâs discomfort, quickly interjected, âSheâs a secretary that Chen Yu arranged for me. I told him I didnât need her, but he insisted, saying sheâs multilingual and would save us time when dealing with foreign clients.â
Gu Zi finally lifted her eyes to meet his. âI understand the need for effective communication in your line of work,â she said coolly. âBut using someone just for their skills, especially someone with ulterior motives, can lead to trouble.â
Gu Zi wasnât one to make a fuss without cause, but the secretaryâs behavior had left her unsettled. It wasnât an urgent document, so why the rush to deliver it in the middle of the night?
More troubling, during the entire interaction, the secretary had barely acknowledged her as the rightful lady of the house, not even offering a polite greeting until Su Shen had introduced her.
And that final glance? It carried a subtle challenge, a glint of something far from professional.
âIâm not just blaming the woman,â Gu Zi continued, her voice steady. âAfter all, these things donât happen in a vacuum. But I canât ignore the signs.â
Su Shen, understanding her concerns, nodded. âIf she makes another move like this, Iâll have Chen Yu transfer her. It wonât happen again.â
Gu Zi raised an eyebrow, not entirely convinced. âSo, you still want to keep her around for now? Be honest with me, Su Shen. I donât trust her. Iâll make it clear right nowâif I ever find out thereâs something more going on between you two, or if she continues to make me uncomfortable, Iâll seriously consider divorce.â
Her words were sharp and unyielding. She wasnât the kind of woman to wait for problems to fester. If something felt off, she addressed it immediately. She wasnât about to let these things slide; her peace of mind was paramount.
Su Shen met her gaze, recognizing the unwavering determination in her eyes. âI understand, Gu Zi. I wonât let this happen again.â
Gu Zi nodded, satisfied for the moment. She wasnât one to accept repeated heartache, and she was making sure Su Shen knew where she stood.
