Chapter 1135: A Bad Woman
Su Li sobbed, his face streaked with tears, feeling even more aggrieved when his mother asked him about what happened. He could hardly form a coherent sentence through his cries.
Beside him, Su Bing quickly stepped in to explain, âJust now, Dad came to pick us up, and the other childâs parents have already apologized. Since theyâre old acquaintances, Dad didnât want to make a big deal out of it. But honestly, this wasnât really their fault. Su Li was too muchâhe thought no girl could possibly beat him and ended up provoking her.â
When Gu Zi heard this, she couldnât help but feel impressed. There was apparently a girl in school who could actually beat Su Liâsomeone who was strong enough to hold her own against him.
She turned to Su Shen and asked, âAn acquaintance? Whose child is it?â
Su Shen replied, âItâs Jin Longâs sisterâs daughter. Her in-laws are in the capital, and they helped write the recommendation letters for all three of our kids to get into school. You remember her, right? She was the one who came with Jin Long to your graduation party. Jin Guo was with her parents, visiting her grandfatherâs place.â
Gu Ziâs face lit up with recognition. âOh, I remember now. That girl was quite young, wasnât she? Just in elementary school?â
âYes,â Su Shen confirmed. âSheâs in first grade. The whole thing started because Su Li was trying to claim the role of the âbig bossâ in the first and second grades. Jin Guo didnât agree and challenged him, saying whoever wins the fight gets to be the boss. But Su Li, thinking he was too good for a girl, refused to fight her, and in the end, Jin Guo chased him down and started hitting him. The teacher had to step in to break it up.â
Gu Zi couldnât help but chuckle at the image of her son, who had always prided himself on being the toughest in the class, getting outmatched by a little girl. She quickly reassured him, âAlright, no more crying. Iâll make you something nice to eat today, and I have a suggestion. Why donât you talk to Jin Guo and suggest you both take turns being the boss?
âBeing the boss isnât just about strength, you know? Itâs about leadership and decision-making skills too. So, why not see who has the better overall ability? That way, even if you end up losing, you wonât lose out. Sometimes losing can be a form of progress.â
Gu Zi thought that maybe it wasnât such a bad thing that Jin Guo had beaten Su Li. After all, competition led to improvement. If Su Li could learn to compete with Jin Guo, heâd learn valuable lessons on how to be a true leader. That way, he wouldnât be so easily led astray by others with ulterior motives in the future.
Su Li, still sniffling, looked up at her, his face still full of frustration. âBut Mom, when I see her now, Iâm scared. Iâm afraid sheâll call me a loser and wonât want to compete with me anymore.â
Gu Zi smiled gently. âDonât worry, she wonât think that way. But you have to learn to treat Jin Guo as an equal. Just because sheâs a girl doesnât mean sheâs any weaker than you. If you treat her with respect, Iâm sure sheâll be more than willing to see you as a worthy competitor.â
Su Li nodded, but his sense of injustice still lingered. âBut Mom, today I lost, and Jin Guo said I have to be her sidekick from now on. Doesnât that make me look like a joke?â
Gu Zi couldnât help but laugh. Jin Guo had certainly found a clever way to handle Su Li. âTo me, Su Li, itâs actually quite impressive when someone who loses has the courage to own up to it. Itâs a sign of strength, not weakness. If you choose to be her sidekick, I donât think itâs shameful at all. But if you try to back out of your wordâthatâs when youâd truly lose face. Weâve raised you to be a man of your word, havenât we?â
Su Liâs eyes lit up, and he straightened up with newfound determination. âYes, Mom! I want to be a man. Iâll protect you and my sister. I understand now, Iâll keep my promise!â
Su Li had lost the fight, and to make matters worse, it was to a younger girl. He had felt as though his world had crumbled. But after his motherâs words, he realized it wasnât the end of the world. Being a sidekick wasnât so bad. At home, he could take care of Lele, and at school, he could look after Jin Guo, treating her like a younger sister.
With that thought, Su Li suddenly felt lighter. He turned to Gu Zi and said, âMom, Iâm going to take Big Yellow for a walk. Iâll train and get stronger. Iâll still be her sidekick, but Iâm going to keep improving and beat her next time.â
Gu Zi, knowing that Big Yellow was with him, wasnât worried. She agreed, watching as Su Li headed out the door, pulling the dog behind him.
She then turned to head into the kitchen to prepare dinner. For some reason, though, she felt a sense of unease, a nagging feeling that something unexpected was about to happen.
Sure enough, not long after, Su Li came rushing back in, dragging Big Yellow behind him. âMom! Mom! I saw that bad woman! Sheâs over at the neighborâs house, and she brought a police officer with her! Sheâs the one whoâs been causing trouble for you back in Guangcheng!â
