Li Juan let out a soft sigh as she heard Gu Zi mention Tang Xue’s name. “She took the day off. We haven’t sat together in the last two or three days. We had a pretty serious argument. She won’t even talk to Chen Xi anymore, and she even threw away the bracelet he gave her.”

Gu Zi frowned at the mention of the bracelet. She immediately thought of the possible implications and made a mental note to look into it later. “Has Chen Xi tried to contact her? I thought he really liked her,” Gu Zi asked.

Li Juan sighed again. “He’s sincere, but it seems like it’s all for nothing. Tang Xue just keeps stringing him along, refusing to give him any clear answer. But you know, Chen Xi is from a rich family. He’s got the means to take it in stride, unlike some guys who would go crazy over a failed romance. After that day when he saw her with that senior, he hasn’t shown up since.”

Gu Zi nodded in understanding. It made sense—Chen Xi was pragmatic enough not to let his feelings get the better of him. She had once thought there might be a future between him and Tang Xue, but now, it seemed Tang Xue had shifted her focus to someone else entirely.

And about that senior… Gu Zi’s instincts told her that something wasn’t quite right, but she didn’t feel like meddling in Tang Xue’s business. After all, Tang Xue was an adult, and if she chose to be with that senior, it meant she had made her own decision. Gu Zi wasn’t about to go out of her way to intervene.

“I haven’t met the senior you’re talking about, so I can’t really judge,” Gu Zi said, standing up. “I’m off to the cafeteria now.”

Lately, Gu Zi had developed a craving for sweet-and-sour dishes. She spotted some sweet-and-sour pork ribs and quickly piled a large serving onto her tray, along with a portion of crispy pork. Her appetite for meat was at an all-time high, and she found a seat by the window to enjoy her lunch.

She had only taken a few bites when, out of nowhere, Chen Xi appeared beside her.

“Hey, it’s been a while! I heard that the woman living next door to your house is the one involved in that murder case. Can you believe it? I bet you were terrified. My brother really messed up, huh? I don’t know why he found you that terrible house. No wonder my sister-in-law wants a divorce,” he said, with his usual bluntness.

Gu Zi hadn’t expected to hear about Chen Yu and Sun Yi’s divorce. It seemed like the strong woman had acted swiftly, as expected.

Gu Zi didn’t feel sympathy for Chen Yu, but she wasn’t about to express that to Chen Xi. She simply responded, “I’m okay. Just been feeling a bit under the weather, so I took a few days off.”

Chen Xi nodded, as though he had figured it all out. “I knew it! It’s the house. No wonder you’ve been feeling off. You should talk to my sister-in-law. She can find you a better place.”

It seemed Chen Xi was fully convinced that the house’s feng shui was the cause of Gu Zi’s discomfort. Gu Zi wasn’t in the mood to debate him. Her mind drifted back to the earlier conversation about the bracelet. She recalled the design of the one Tang Xue had apologized with, the silver one with the hollowed-out star and floral pattern.

Turning to Chen Xi, she asked, “I’ve got a question. Did you ever give Tang Xue a bracelet? A silver one with hollow stars and flower patterns?”

At the mention of Tang Xue’s name, Chen Xi paused, clearly caught off guard. He nodded, his expression betraying a slight hesitation. “Yeah, why do you ask? Did she show you the bracelet?”
