That afternoon, a black sedan from the Chen family arrived punctually outside their gate. Chen Xi climbed out of the passenger seat, dressed in the university’s spring athletic uniform—a light gray jacket over a crisp white T-shirt, matching sneakers on his feet.

The outfit was nothing special, but a closer look revealed the details: imported sneakers, and a sleek mechanical watch gleaming on his wrist. It was the effortless swagger of someone born into wealth—a proper second-generation rich kid.

With long strides, he walked up to the door and knocked confidently. Gu Zi opened it and invited him in.

“Gu Zi,” he said brightly, “I got called to the office before class even ended. Turns out my brother called the university himself, told me to get home right away. That’s when I found out you two are heading out of town. My brother asked me to bring the driver over and pick up the kids. As for Big Yellow, don’t worry—we’ll send someone over every day to take care of him. You two just go without a worry.”

Gu Zi blinked. The speed at which Su Shen and the Chen family had mobilized was impressive.

“Thank you,” she said with genuine gratitude. “This really was all very sudden.”

Chen Xi waved it off with a grin. “No need to be polite! You’ve no idea how happy I was to hear the news. Ever since my brother pissed off my sister-in-law, the tension in our house has been unbearable. I’ve been the one getting the brunt of their moods every day. Now, with the kids staying at our place, they won’t dare argue in front of them. They’ve even arranged for a nanny just to take care of the kids. Finally, I can enjoy a little peace and quiet!”
