Once outside, Gu Zi yawned and gave a lazy glance at Su Shen and Su Jing. “You two didn’t say anything when the inheritance was brought up today. If you have thoughts, just tell me tomorrow. I can tell Su Bing to return it to the Xu family—after all, it’s just a million or so. Su Bing’s smart and capable; he’ll earn that much himself one day. It’s just a matter of working harder while he’s young. That’s what youth is for!”

Su Shen and Su Jing exchanged looks at her words. That certainly didn’t sound like a suggestion to give the money back. If anything, it made them feel like the villains in the story.

Su Jing shrugged. “I’m not saying we should return the money. It belongs to my three nephews. Why on earth would we give it back? I’m going to bed. This matter’s settled, and I have to start preparing for studying abroad.”

Su Jing had recently secured a spot to study overseas and was furiously learning a new language. She’d just memorized dozens of new words earlier and was exhausted now. As she headed to her room, Gu Zi reminded her that the room was hers for good—that Su Jing would always be a daughter of the Su family, with a place there.

The gesture touched her deeply. She was determined to become someone better—stronger, to protect her brother and sister-in-law, to be their pillar of happiness.

Watching Su Jing’s retreating figure, Gu Zi turned to Su Shen. “Since you both have no objections, then let’s leave it at that. I’ve checked with Su Jing. She leaves for school at the end of this month. Tomorrow, we’ll go get her some things.”

If there was one thing about the Su family, it was their brainpower. Su Shen and Su Bing were quick learners, sure, but even Su Jing, once a poor student, absorbed knowledge with incredible speed once she made up her mind.

Gu Zi knew Su Jing could now memorize dozens of words a day, and once learned, they stuck. Truly, the Su family genes were remarkable.

Su Shen wrapped an arm around Gu Zi and pressed a tender kiss to her forehead. “I’m with you. From now on, you’re the captain of this ship. I’m happy to be your loyal crew.”

He wasn’t a rigid man. The tangled love and hate between Su Mo and Xu Ye was something he no longer wanted to dwell on. Finding the Xu family had simply been about demanding an explanation—for Su Mo, for the three children. The Xu family handing over the inheritance was already a reasonable conclusion. That was enough.
