Withdrawing his spiritual consciousness from Mao Ruxue, Chen Changâan continued to flip through the book in his hand.
"When the Daoist Ancestor traveled through Hangu, he rode a green ox. The oxâs mooing nourish mountains and rivers, its steps turn the ground into fertile soil."
"This is why itâs said, the abilities of the Daoist Ancestor can connect heaven and also thoroughly penetrate the earth..."
"Grand Daoist Secrets" is different from "The Grand Cosmic Scripture".
"The Grand Cosmic Scripture" is a book that uses simple language to describe the immortals and deities,
while the "Grand Daoist Secrets" is a book that records the legends the Daoist Ancestor left in the world when he was here.
Whether the contents recorded are true or not is another matter, but the rhythm of the stories is quite worth the read.
Therefore, Chen Changâan read the book very slowly and in detail.
By slowing down, he can understand its deeper meanings.
In fact, not just "Grand Daoist Secrets," Chen Changâan read all the previous books he read very thoroughly.
To Chen Changâan now, reading these classics wasnât solely for divine abilities.
Instead, he started to learn to read for the pleasure of reading itself.
Reading a book is like savoring a whole spectrum of life.
The more books you read, the more life experiences you taste, and the more meaningful your life becomes.
In the blink of an eye, it was the tenth day Mao Ruxue arrived at the Daoist Gate Mountain.
In the past ten days, aside from her regular morning cultivation, Mao Ruxue would appear promptly in the Buddhist Scripture Hall at the back mountain to pay her respects to Chen Changâan.
This was beyond Chen Changâanâs expectations, but he didnât refuse.
Having a junior sister disciple to pay respects is a good thing, much better than being alone here every day.
In addition, Mao Ruxue also redecorated everything on the Daoist Gate Mountain.
Weeding, tilling, fixing the houses ...
She toiled every day with sweat and dust all over her.
Seeing this, Chen Changâan didnât stop her.
If this girl loves to fuss, let her fuss. Strictly speaking, after all, this mountain is where sheâll be living from now on.
Fortunately, although the Daoist Gate Mountain has declined, the Tianshui Sect has not reduced the facilities on it.
Therefore, it can withstand Mao Ruxueâs fussing.
Otherwise, she probably would have had to eat dirt the day she came here.
These days continued for ten days, and Chen Changâan gradually got used to having an extra person on the mountain.
However, on the eleventh day, the situation changed slightly.
Mao Ruxue did not show up to pay respects that morning, and he did not find any trace of her after scanning the mountain with his spiritual consciousness.
And for the next few days, there was no sign of her either.
But he did learn from the sectâs duty disciple that someone saw her use the teleportation array at the foot of the mountain to leave.
Upon hearing this news, Chen Changâan didnât mind. He thought the girl might have gone out.
As for whether Mao Ruxue was kidnapped or not, Chen Changâan didnât worry at all.
Although the Daoist Gate Mountain may seem plain, he had set up several seven-level formations in and out of it early on.
Without his nod, let alone ordinary people, even the monarch of the Eternal City couldnât easily step in.
So, this possibility doesnât exist.
With that thought in mind, Chen Changâan picked up the book and continued to read.
In the blink of an eye, another ten days passed, and he had read "Grand Daoist Secrets" twice,
but unfortunately, he didnât get anything out of those two times.
He did unlock two layers of divine abilities related to "Grand Daoist Secrets" but they were both of the Fourth Realm.
They werenât the divine demonic secrets he was looking for.
However, Chen Changâan wasnât in a hurry. He believed he would eventually get them.
"Huh? Someoneâs looking for me?"
Just then, Chen Changâan suddenly furrowed his brows.
Because just now, he suddenly felt a faint tremor in his consciousness.
Someone was calling him.
At present, in this world, only three people from the Rebirth Hall could call him in this manner:
[City God] and [Black and White Impermanence].
Thinking this, Chen Changâan didnât hesitate. He put his book in space and put on the bronze mask.
The next moment, with a stroke in the void, he stepped into it and vanished.
When he reappeared, he was already at Emperor Songâs palace.
"Greetings, master."
At this moment, four people stood in the hall of Emperor Song.
Each person wore a mask, either made of bronze or gold and silver.
These masks were all uniformly distributed by the Rebirth Hall.
One common feature, it obscured the faces of the wearers from others.
Only a seventh or eighth realm Great Cultivator could see underneath the mask with their divine consciousness.
The four people in the hall were none other than the City God, Black Impermanence, and White Impermanence of the underworld, in addition to one person whom Chen Changâan didnât recognize.
But the last person was someone Chen Changâan had never seen before.
"Impermanence, why have you summoned me?"
Chen Changâan asked, after scanning the four people with his gaze.
"Reporting to the master, a while back, you asked us to find a replacement for the last âEarth Bodhisattva,â and we have found one."
"This is the âEarth Bodhisattvaâ candidate agreed upon after our discussion." Black Impermanence took a step forward and said.
"Oh? Is he the new Earth Bodhisattva?"
Upon hearing this, Chen Changâan curiously examined this supposed Earth Bodhisattva.
Under the black robe, his hands were placed in front of him, seemingly calm and composed.
But Chen Changâan could sense that this man was slightly nervous.
Black Impermanence continued, "Yes, master, he is our chosen âEarth Bodhisattva.â"
"Master, you may have heard of this man before."
"He is the outstanding âSoul Detainment Emissaryâ we mentioned to you who has recently joined the palace."
"He had the best performance in all the examinations conducted by our subordinate judges of the underworld. He also fully complies with your initial set of regulations for appointing a trustworthy âEarth Bodhisattva.â"
"So, we brought him to meet you."
"As for whether he can receive the position of âEarth Bodhisattva,â please make the final decision."
After speaking, Black Impermanence respectfully gave a ceremonial salute to Chen Changâan and stepped aside.
"Hmm, I see."
Having heard Black Impermanenceâs words, Chen Changâan nodded.
Indeed, he had assigned the task of selecting an âEarth Bodhisattvaâ. Considering the timeline, it was indeed time for Black Impermanence and the others to present the result.
With that thought, Chen Changâan used his divine consciousness to inspect this so-called new âEarth Bodhisattva.â
However, he was startled, when he saw the face beneath the mask, Chen Changâan was dumbfounded.
Mao Ruxue?!
Damn! How did it turn out to be this girl?!
Because, the face under the mask was none other than his disciple sister Mao Ruxue whom he had taken under his wing not so long ago!
There was no way Chen Changâan would have mistaken her.
Mao Ruxueâs face was too unique!â
"Impermanence, are you sure that this âEarth Bodhisattvaâ was previously our palaceâs âSoul Detainment Emissaryâ?" Chen Changâan looked at Impermanence and asked.
Normally, if it was the City God that Emperor Song asked such a question, he would probably be kneeling by now.
But Black Impermanence didnât.
Instead, Black Impermanence respectfully bowed his hands and replied:
"Master, yes, indeed. This Emissary of Soul Detainment worked under my sister and me, and he performed well."
"Is there something wrong, master?"
Seeing Black Impermanenceâs calm and collected response to Chen Changâanâs query, City God could only feel envious.
But he understood that he could not attain this sort of confidence.
Black Impermanence didnât get scared of Emperor Songâs aura - not that they arenât afraid of Emperor Song.
Itâs that theyâre not afraid of Emperor Songâs punishment.
Unlike him, who came later to the Dao.
Black Impermanence and his sister could be considered as the real lineage of Emperor Song.
Emperor Song saved their lives, raised their status singlehandedly, and guided them from having no cultivation to their current level.
In a sense, they were Emperor Songâs lineage of direct disciples.
If the Emperor Song wanted them to die, they would probably do it without hesitation.
If one could even face death without hesitation, what was there to be afraid of?
