They sat in the servant's passage. Seris had drawn a rough map of the academy on the dusty floor.

Varyan studied her map. Faculty quarters. Teaching rotations. Notes on which professors had been at the academy the longest.
"How do you know all this?"
"I've been watching for six months. Before you woke up, I was the only fragment-bearer here. I had to know who to avoid."
"And now?"
"Now there are two of us. Which means we can fight back."
