"Yes, she didnāt answer, and she didnāt reply to the messages I sent her the past two days either," Peter Gingery quickly nodded in agreement, "Thatās why Iām worried about her. You know what the Sampton family is like, especially that woman Julie Sampton, sheās particularly cunning. Aunt Sampton, well, sheās particularly soft-hearted when it comes to Julie, and since Julie likes to oppose Jane in everything, Iām worried something might have happened to Jane, like maybe sheās been bullied or something."
In Peterās eyes, Jane Sampson was a person who appeared strong on the outside but was tough on the inside, though this faƧade of strength was only in front of him. In othersā eyes, Jane was like a docile little white rabbit, the kind so gentle that everyone feels they could pinch her without a second thought.
As James Black didnāt answer immediately, Peter grew anxious, "Brother, if youāre not going back, then approve my leave. Tomorrow is Saturday, so just give me two days off, and Iāll go check on her. Itās been a long time since Iāve seen Jane Sampson and Nina Rice."
Mentioning taking leave from the Solar Planet Guardian Team, Peter Ginergy instantly cheered up, thinking that his going to find Jane would definitely cheer her up more than if James went.
"Iāll go back home tonight," James Black finally spoke up. After he had finished speaking, he quickly emptied his dining plate of the meals on it, washed the empty plate, and then left the dining hall.
After leaving the dining hall, James thought it over and eventually took out his mobile phone to make a call to Jane Sampson. Since Peter had mentioned she had been acting out of character, it must be true.
Although he was Jane Sampsonās husband, James knew that when it came to understanding Jane, Peter, who had grown up with her, knew her much better than he did.
The phone rang for a long time with no one answering until it ended automatically. James clenched his mobile phone, a slight frown forming on his eyebrows, and he made another call.
This time, it was still the same, no answer. James then put his mobile phone away.
In the evening, because he was preoccupied with thoughts of Jane, James didnāt even have dinner at the Solar Planet Guardian Team and drove home instead. He was lucky on the road, encountering no traffic jams, and he got home around 6 oāclock.
In September, the light at around 6 oāclock in the afternoon was no longer as bright as in the summer. Upon entering the residential community, every home had their lights on. James, driving his car, looked up at the top floor from downstairs only to find that at this time there were no lights on in his house.
James wasnāt sure if there was no one at home or if Jane wasnāt in the living room, which was why the light was off.
After parking the car, James hurriedly took the elevator up, opened the door to his house, and was immediately met with an air of bleak emptiness.
"Jane Sampson," James called out her name as he changed shoes at the doorway but, receiving no response, he then turned on the lights in the living room.
From the moment James reached out to touch the light switch, he felt something was off. After turning on the light, his palm was covered with a layer of dust. Looking down, he saw it was indeed dust.
In the living room, not to mention the floor, even the white tea table was visibly covered with a thin layer of dust.
The state of the house suggested that no one had lived there for at least over a month.
James quickly took out his mobile phone and immediately redialed Janeās number. Before the call went through, he remembered Jane had once brought up divorcee and went to the bedroom to open the wardrobe for a look; her clothes and jewelry were mostly still there.
This time, Janeās phone was picked up. She greeted him with a "hello" over the phone, her voice carrying a clear sense of exhaustion.
"Jane Sampson, where are you?" James asked in a cool tone.
