"Why?" Jane Sampson turned her head to look at James Black, "Didnât we agree just now to stay here tonight?"
"Did I agree?" James Black countered and effortlessly lifted the person still sitting on a chair, "Youâre stuffed, letâs take a walk in the courtyard."
After being carried by James Black for a few steps, Jane Sampson snapped back to reality, swatted his hand away with one hand, turned, and ran upstairs, shouting as she went, "I donât want to go home!"
Everyone downstairs, including James Black, was left stunned by Jane Sampsonâs move.
James Black snorted with laughter and pursued her thinking she had already run back to her room, but after turning a corner, he came face to face with her, catching her breath at the corner. Seeing him catching up, she ran ahead as if seeing a ghost.
James Black, unhurriedly, braced the door panel with one hand just as Jane was about to close the door, and then said to her, who was sulking inside, "Done running? If not, go back downstairs."
"James Black, my belly hurts." Jane Sampsonâs attractive eyebrows knitted together, and she didnât close the door, instead squatting down at the doorway, hunched over.
At first, James Black thought Jane Sampson was faking it, but he soon realized it wasnât the case.
She had been in the same position when she rounded the corner earlier; her stomach must really be hurting.
Or rather, it must be because she overate and then ran immediately afterward.
Jane Sampson had indeed eaten too much tonight, and James Black could tell that her meal was about enough for two of her normal servings, but he hadnât anticipated that an adult could overindulge to this extent.
"Sit on the bed and rest a bit." James Black entered, picked her up, and placed her on the bed, then began to gently rub her stomach.
After a while, Jane Sampson gently burped, looking at the hand still rubbing her belly, and suddenly said, "James Black, doesnât this seem like youâre feeling the baby? Haha, look, my belly is all swollen now."
As a skinny person, having her small belly protrude was something Jane Sampson found particularly amusing.
James Blackâs hand paused, and he looked up into Jane Sampsonâs brightly smiling eyes.
It seemed she was feeling much better, which was why she had the spirit to joke again.
However, hearing the word âbabyâ caused a sudden flutter in James Blackâs heart.
At least for that second, he suddenly wanted a child.
"Jane Sampson." James Black spoke up, "Shall we have a child?"
Jane Sampson was utterly stunned by James Blackâs sentence. She swallowed her saliva and asked in a tiny voice, "Maybe we shouldnât, right?"
James Black quietly observed her initial reaction and expression, capturing it all before realizing he had asked a pointless question.
How could someone who was still secretly considering divorce seriously discuss this matter with him?
"Right, letâs not for now," James Black nodded gravely in response, "If we had a daughter as troublesome as you, indeed, that would be worrisome."
"???" Was this escalating to personal attacks because of the rejection?
Jane Sampson glared at James Black hatefully, "Yes, letâs never have one, so we avoid having a son like you. Coping with one of you is difficult enough, dealing with two of you would be better off dead!"
That round, Jane Sampson declared herself the victorious one!
Then, she pushed James Black aside with grandiose confidence and strode out of the room.
