"Ms. Little, hello, Jane has been under your care for many years, and I canāt thank you enough." James Black took the initiative to reach out and shake hands with Ms. Little. It turned out James really knew Ms. Little because Jane Sampson would sometimes mention her.
Before marriage, and after, he had heard Jane speak of her. After all, Ms. Little taught Jane a great deal.
As for James Carter.
Hmph.
James Black stood there, looking indifferent. He hadnāt intended on greeting James Carter, but Jane kept giving him insistent looks, almost to the point where James thought Janeās eyes might cramp up. Thatās when he turned to James Carter and said indifferently, "Hello."
"Hello." James Carter didnāt know why James Blackās attitude toward him was so different from his attitude toward Ms. Little, but he didnāt give it much thought since it was their first meeting.
After a courteous handshake, they let go, and James Carter smiled, "Can I guess your occupation? If Iām not mistaken, Mr. Black, youāre a guard, right?"
"You know?" James Black was somewhat surprised.
"Someone in my family is a guard, so my first thought upon seeing Mr. Black was that you both have a similar air about you. It seems I guessed right," James Carter explained.
"Mr. Carter, youāre really amazing," Jane couldnāt help but praise. "He is a guard!"
The corners of James Carterās lips gently curved, "Being a guard is good."
James Black raised his eyebrows and gave a grunt, then gently patted Janeās head with his palm before asking, "Finished eating, ready to go?"
"Yeah." Jane nodded and giggled as she tentatively asked, "Going shopping later?"
"Weāll drop the two teachers off first, then Iāll go get the car." James Blackās hand moved from Janeās head and took hers into his palm.
Jane nodded, feeling a tad surprised in her heart. Was this guy suddenly so easy to talk to?
He came out not wearing a frown, looking like he was in a good mood, in fact.
At the doorway, Jane and James Black ordered a car for Mr. Carter and Ms. Little and watched them leave before heading to the parking lot. Once they got in the car, James Black turned on the air conditioner straight awayāthis seasonās afternoon temperature outside was almost unbearable.
Once Jane was in the car, she had the time to check her mobile phone. First, she saw two missed calls from Peter Gingery. She didnāt call back immediately, instead, she opened WhatsApp and was completely astonished to find a sea of unread messages.
And James Blackās was right at the front.
After reading the messages from James Black, Jane turned and looked at him, now driving, and after a momentās thought, she still offered a compliment, "James, you are really nice."
"That sentence isnāt worth much coming from you," James scoffed as he turned the car, heading toward their destination.
Although he was apparently disparaging Janeās words as meaningless, the corners of Jamesās lips still rose slightly.
"You seemed to enjoy the meal with them?" James casually asked.
"Yeah." Janeās eyes sparkled as she smiled, "Itās a pity they have plans this afternoon, or I would love to chat with them the entire afternoon."
"Hmph." James let out a brief snort, clearly not too pleased with Janeās response.
Jane pursed her lips, too lazy to argue with James, and clicked on Peter Gingeryās messages, only to find a string of emoticons from him. It took her going through over a dozen emoticons to find a sentence amongst them.
