Iâm inexplicably angry!
And itâs that extremely angry kind!
Just because she laughed on the phone?
Jane Sampson was stunned for a few seconds before quickly redialing James Black. As soon as he answered this time, she hurriedly said, "I wonât laugh anymore! Really!"
Iâll hold it in! Even if it kills me with laughter, I will hold it in!
Jane Sampson looked at the face in the mirror, trying not to laugh, and it looked terribly ferocious.
"Are you so happy about the scandal with Shirley Young?" James asked.
"No? Are you angry because you thought I was laughing about having a scandal with Senior Shirley Young? How could that be? I am not crazy! I laughed just now because Sister Tin complimented me!" Jane responded candidly.
After thinking for a moment, she hastily added, "The scandal should be resolved later, Shirley Young has decided to announce her marriage."
"Mhm," Jamesâs tone finally softened quite a bit and he said, "I will have someone look into this for you. Alexander Forest said that those comments claiming youâre not a good match seem to have been instigated by an unauthorized crowd."
"Unauthorized crowd? No way? I havenât offended anyone, who would spend money on an unauthorized crowd to target me?" Jane was shocked.
"You didnât offend anyone, but werenât the fruits still thrown at you?" James scoffed. "You, a newcomer, were discovered to be in the same car with Shirley Young despite wearing a mask. Do you think it was just a coincidence that you were recognized, or could there be another reason?"
"I thought it was a coincidence," Jane scratched her head, realizing that in Jamesâs mouth, the incident seemed to turn into a different kind of arrangement.
"Not necessarily, weâll know once we investigate," James said.
"Alright, letâs look into it," Jane nodded. With such suspicions, itâs better to investigate and find peace of mind once things are clear.
If someone really was targeting her, it was better to be aware and prepared early on.
If it werenât for James mentioning it, Jane would have thought the scandal would end once Shirley Young made a statement, and she wouldnât have thought any deeper about it.
What James told her successfully swept away the laughter that Jane had been unable to suppress moments earlier.
When she spoke again, her voice was muffled. "Sister Tin said you were very angry when you saw the news today?"
"Am I not allowed to be angry?" James retorted tersely.
Of course youâre not allowed to be! Jane thought to herself. Whatâs there to be angry about?
"My wifeâs name, associated with another manâs, living together as his girlfriend? Hmph!" With that disdainful snort, Jamesâs ferocity was beyond words. "I declared to the guard team that Jane Sampson is my wife, and not a single one of those rascals believed it."
Although those rascals didnât say it explicitly, their indescribable expressions were clear enough for James to understand that they were probably muttering about him in their hearts.
Most likely, they thought he had gone mad.
"Thatâs easy to fix. Show them our marriage certificate!" Jane burst into joy. "The marriage certificate is the best evidence!"
Jamesâs eyes flickered slightly. This...
Was a good idea.
"But..." Jane slightly suppressed the excitement in her heart, "James, why do you care so much about these little things people say? Sister Tin said you were jealous?"
After pausing for a second, Jane suddenly said, "James, do you like me~"
James, listening to the coy giggling coming through the phone, felt his scalp tingle.
The trailing sound of the word "like", with its quivering tone, coupled with a quaint laugh, left James stunned and speechless for a long time.
After a while, James cleared his throat and huffed, "If youâre happy thinking that, then think whatever you want."
"..." Not fun at all!
Jane hummed lowly.
