Jane Sampson stood right behind Mair Williams, watching as Mair clutched the gift intended for the black-face instructor tightly in her hand. The instructor took it, but Mair didnât let go, her eyes locked on Mairâs face, which was crying like pear blossoms in the rain. The black-face instructor was totally flustered and quickly let go of the gift.
Mair hesitated for a good few seconds, "Forget it, itâs already done, here, take it, take it. Anyway, even if you throw it away, I wonât see it."
Mair said that, then stretched out her hand and stuffed it towards him again.
It appeared she didnât know what she had made, and now seemed a bit regretful.
"No matter what it is, I wonât throw it away," Liam Woody thought the girl was crying because she feared her gift would be discarded, so he hastened to explain as he opened his mouth.
Mair stopped herself from saying more and then moved forward to give gifts to the other instructors.
Peter Gingery stood right in front of Liam Woody, watching Jane with red eyes handing him a gift, his curiosity got the better of him, and he stealthily opened it to sneak a peek.
Before he could see anything, he heard a subtle cough signaling him.
Only then did Peter stand properly and look at Jane, thinking to himself, "Are women inherently prone to worry?"
He could understand others being upset, after all, these artists leaving the guard team today truly might never see each other again.
Artists have their own circle, while they, the defenders, have their own lives.
But what about his sister-in-law? What was she upset about?
She was different, wasnât she? Whenever she wanted to come to the guard team, all she had to do was mention it to his brother, right?
Peter thought, although before James Black didnât seem to like family coming to the guard team and disrupting his work and training, seeing how Jane spent these few days at the guard team, being carried back to their nest by James every day, he figured if Jane said she wanted to stay at the guard team for a couple of days later, his brother would probably hurry to prepare everything she needed.
After the gift exchange, the eight artists returned to their seats, and the instructors on stage began to showcase the gifts theyâd received to the camera.
James Black glanced at the people on stage then looked towards a certain seat back stage, observing as someone walked off stage with red eyes, he simply sat there, letting out a chuckle.
She didnât show a bit of reluctance last night when she slipped away from his dormitory.
As the lens panned over to Peterâs hands, he was eagerly unwrapping the gift Jane had prepared for him.
Truth be told, this was the first time he had ever received something handcrafted by Jane.
Jane had wrapped it securely, and Peter was just unwrapping it when Liam Woody beside him had already opened his gift.
Lieutenant Johnson who stood next to Liam casually glanced over and burst out laughing.
"Who gave this?" Lieutenant Johnson couldnât stop his shoulders from shaking with laughter, "This person pieced together from tree leaves is quite cute."
Peter turned his head for a look and instantly couldnât help but laugh out loud.
Wasnât it cute?
A figure assembled from green leaves for its body, including arms and legs, all were in green, but the face was made from a deep purple, almost black, leaf.
The facial features drawn with a black pen on the leaves were so subtle they were barely noticeable.
"Whose gift is this?" Lieutenant Johnson pressed for an answer.
"Seems like itâs Jane Sampsonâs," a member of the filming crew replied, "This is Jane Sampsonâs gift packaging."
