Upon entering the private room, Jane Sampson and James Carter finally took off their masks. The dining hall was on the pricier side, and it was common to run into some stars or other special individuals there. Hence, their entrance with masks on didnât seem out of place.
After sitting down, the two of them flipped through the all-English menu once, pleasantly and deliberately made their selections, and waited until the waiter departed with a smile before James Carter started talking to Jane Sampson about the premiere event.
"Youâre quite fond of traveling, arenât you? Smytheton is an excellent tourist city. Then, if you have enough time, after itâs over, we could stay here for two more days," said James Carter. "There is a mountain in Smytheton worth visiting."
"James Black, my husband," Jane Sampson said with an embarrassed smile. "From what he implies, it seems he will be joining me in Smytheton for the premiere. I havenât received the schedule for after the event yet, so whether weâll stay in Smytheton for an extra two days depends on his availability."
At this point, Jane Sampson shrugged, "I bet if he doesnât have the time, heâll definitely drag me home. He would never let me stay alone in Smytheton."
That guy probably wishes she would stay under his watch all day, not going anywhere, just remaining at home like a little fairy who only drinks dew and never touches ice cream, potato chips, or spicy strips.
James Carter was momentarily taken aback, then he laughed, "It sounds like the two of you have a very good relationship."
"Good relationship? Heâs just someone who gets on my nerves every day," Jane Sampson pouted. However, despite her words, the smile in her eyes betrayed her current good mood.
"By the way, Mr. Carter," Jane Sampson thought for a moment, couldnât help herself, and asked, "Do you know Mandy Forest? This morning, when you called me, she was right across from me. When she heard me talking to you on the phone, she seemed quite agitated."
After saying this, Jane Sampson cautiously watched James Carterâs reaction. She hadnât expected it to be as intense as it was â his hand holding the glass water cup shook violently, and the cup almost slammed onto the tabletop. Had Jane Sampsonâs reflexes not been quick, the cup would have fallen to ground level. "Mr. Carter, whatâs wrong?" Jane Sampson was startled by his reaction. After steadying the cup, she quickly pulled out some paper to dry the water in front of him, looking at him with a worried face.
"Sheâs in City S?" James Carterâs voice contained an emotion Jane Sampson couldnât quite understand.
"Yes, sheâs the spokesperson for the new season of bags for JK," Jane Sampson replied. "Me, Lotus, and Sister Mandy Forest have been shooting advertisements in City S these past few days. JK is rushing to release their new products on time."
After she finished speaking, Jane Sampson silently topped up James Carterâs water and then slowly pushed the cup towards him. James Carter remained silent throughout, sitting there quietly with an empty gaze. Jane Sampson had no idea what he was thinking at that moment.
If the waiter hadnât knocked on the door to serve the dishes, Jane Sampson wasnât sure how long James Carter would have remained lost in thought.
"Iâm sorry." James Carter finally snapped out of it and apologized. He took a sip from the water cup and then asked quietly, "Has she been doing well recently?"
"What should it be like to be âwellâ? And what should it be like to be ânot wellâ? I donât know how to answer that question," Jane Sampson shook her head seriously.
