"You donāt need to think about it anymore." James Black stood up abruptly, leaving Jane Sampson behind, and then walked straight away.
Watching James Blackās clearly irritated back, Jane raised her hand and scratched her head, thinking that recently, Chief Blackās temper had grown~
Is he really that mad?
Could it be his time of the month? So there are always those few super irritable days in a month.
Jane lingered in the study for a while before she finally left, still mumbling to herself that James was probably mad at her and didnāt want to go with her.
Back in the bedroom, James had already gone to the bathroom, and the sound of water was pouring out. Jane leaned against the frosted glass of the bathroom, peering in, knowing full well she couldnāt see anything, so she didnāt know what she was trying to look at.
After sticking by the door for a few minutes, Jane puckered her lips and went back to the bed, lying stiff as a board for a while, until James came out of the bathroom. Jane sneaked a glance at him and then quickly averted her gaze.
Whoever speaks first loses.
Jane mumbled to herself, determined not to talk to him first.
And then the next second, Jane heard James behind her asking, "What were you sneaking around at the bathroom door for just now?"
Jane almost dropped her mobile phone.
This was even worse than having to back down and start the conversation first!
Sheād forgotten that while she couldnāt see anything from the outside, it didnāt mean that her shadow couldnāt be seen by James inside!
How embarrassing!
James wouldnāt think she was peeping at him taking a bath, would he?
"I wasnāt up against the bathroom door," Jane denied weakly, "You make it sound like Iām some kind of voyeur. Is there any part of your body I havenāt seen? If I wanted to look, Iād do it outright, why would I need to sneak around?"
James was taken aback. In fact, he hadnāt thought about Jane spying on him; he had only assumed she was up to no good, surreptitiously watching to see if he had come out yet.
But to his surprise, Jane was far too obviously nervous, speaking without conviction, and not daring to meet his gaze.
James curved the corners of his mouth into a smile, then lifted the person lying on the bed with her back to him, reminding her, "Donāt lie face down, youāll suffocate."
Jane slapped away Jamesās hand, muttering, "I wonāt, Iām flat-chested."
"..." His tone carried a certain pride.
James left Jane alone, going to dry his hair, while she slowly sat up and, like a meditating monk, crossed her legs and sat on the bed, staring at him the entire time.
Just out of the bath, James was wearing a big vest. He had many of these vests, so much so that Jane wondered if heād gone out and bought a dozen wholesale.
With his back to her, Jane could see the muscles on his arms as he held the hairdryer.
She mused to herself that no wonder he could lift her so effortlessly every time, making her feel as light as a chick with no sense of weight in his hands.
After watching James for a while, Jane lay back down, ultimately not asking again whether he would go to Smytheton or not. It seemed his auntieās visit was over, but what if she provoked him by asking and summoned his uncle-in-law back out?
Jane lay back down and started playing a standalone game on her mobile phone. After a few rounds, James flipped the quilt open and tucked her in, then sat down next to her.
