10:30 p.m. was James Blackās usual resting time, so Jane Sampson didnāt reply anymore.
Not happy.
Hmph!
This guy didnāt even ask how she was feeling today, whether she was happy or tired.
Jane had just stretched out her hand to turn off the roomās electric light when her mobile phone suddenly rang.
She lazily reached out for the phone, and to her surprise, it was James Black.
Jane almost jumped up to turn the electric light back on and quickly answered the phone.
"Why havenāt you gone to sleep yet?" Jane asked the person on the other end with a cheerful voice.
"I told Coco Edwards to give me a call after you got back to the hotel. I figured that by this time, you would have finished your bath," James said, his voice carrying a hint of laughter, "Did grandfather visit the set today and praise you?"
"Did grandfather tell you that?" Jane asked playfully.
"Yeah," James nodded, "Grandfather said you looked beautiful in your costumes, just as his granddaughter-in-law should."
At this moment, Old Master Black, who had already gone to rest, sneezed twice.
If he knew what James was saying to Jane over the phone right now, he would probably shout out loud.
Nonsense! He hadnāt said any of those things.
Perhaps, he might even shout again!
That kid James, using him, the old man, as a front to please his wife.
Jane didnāt care whether Old Master Black had said it or not, but at the moment, James was the one relaying it, and it was coming from Jamesās mouth.
So, she was very happy in her heart.
"Since you relayed grandfatherās words, Iāll take it that you agree with what he said," Jane said with a mischievous grin, teeth showing, the mobile pressed to her ear as she joyfully rolled around the bed.
"Mhm." James remembered the brief but stunning sight of her in the mountain village, her sudden appearance like a celestial being who had wandered into the mountains, breathtakingly beautiful.
That mountain, she was the most unexpected beauty, and the hardest for him to take his eyes off of.
"Jane Sampson." After James affirmed, he suddenly spoke up, calling out her full name, "More than half has already passed."
"Didnāt we just see each other yesterday?" Jane asked subconsciously.
"Yesterday..." James chuckled, "Doesnāt count."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than he thought for a moment and asked, "Do you remember what day it is in 12 days?"
"What day?" Jane felt confused again.
Why was James asking so many bizarre and seemingly tricky questions lately?
"Double Ninth Festival?" Jane guessed quietly before correcting herself, "No, thatās wrong, Double Ninth Festival has already passed."
"You wonāt get a hint from me, think about it yourself. Once you figure it out, Iāll give you a gift," Jamesās tone did not reveal much displeasure.
"A gift, huh? So if I guess it by tomorrow, can you deliver the gift to me immediately?" Jane said with a little smugness, "Maybe Iāll guess it by tomorrow."
"If you guess it by tomorrow, the gift will indeed reach you before early morning," James confirmed, "Rest early, and call me once youāve figured it out."
After hanging up the phone, Jane didnāt go to sleep immediately but held her mobile and pondered what day it was in 12 days.
After guessing for half the day and still unable to figure it out, she took her mobile to search for the answer.
However, the results were all about some historical figureās birthdates.
Jane snorted softly to herself.
And then she exited the web page.
In the second she exited, her eyes caught the words "birthdate", and she suddenly perked up!
days!
days!
Isnāt that James Blackās birthday?
This guy was reminding her in such a roundabout way. If she hadnāt whimsically googled it just now, she might not have remembered it at all.
Jane felt very smug in her heart and immediately sent James Black a message on WhatsApp.
James Black! James Black! I want to see my gift by tomorrow early morning! āā James Blackās wife.
In 12 days, itās your birthday! āā James Blackās wife.
Now praise me! āā Mrs. Black.
