""This isnāt something to be pitied for her, itās actually a very happy thing. Life is like drinking waterāno one has the right to pity someone else for the life they chose themselves," Jane Sampson said with a smile before adding, "I actually quite understand Sister Shawās choice."
A man who would plant laurel trees all over the courtyard just for her name must have truly loved her and also knew best how to love her.
Jane felt that Sister Shaw had said one thing right.
In this world, there would never be anyone else who could love her more than Brother Young, and since there wasnāt, whoever she married would merely be settling.
"Understand?" James Black was somewhat astonished. "What? If one day something happened to me, would you make the same choice as Sister Shaw?"
Jane just rolled her eyes at James.
She had never seen anyone who cursed themselves like this.
"In your dreams!" Jane threw Jamesās catchphrase right back at him. "You better stay alive, otherwise, if anything happens to you, the next day Iāll marry someone else! Who else in the world would be as controlling as you, dictating doās and donāts, managing everything?"
"Indeed, itās better you wish for me to live a bit longer," James scoffed coldly. "Otherwise, even if I were dead, if I donāt agree, youād have to stay in the role of Mrs. Black for a lifetime."
Jane choked.
Ah, she couldnāt argue with a millennium-old hollow husk.
There were certainly a lot he still needed to learn.
She couldnāt expect a millennium-old husk to always know how to keep her happy every moment.
James, waiting for Janeās response, gently squeezed the small hand in his palm. "Not happy?"
Seeing that there was no one around, Jane directly removed her mask, revealing her entire face to James, and huffed, "Obviously."
Her little face was practically begging to be pampered.
"Just teasing you," James suddenly changed his tone, "If one day I were to sacrifice myself, the only person in this world I would worry about and couldnāt let go of would be you."
The moment before, Jane, who had been waiting for James to pamper her, suddenly remembered all the scenes from before her rebirth.
All the images of him sacrificing himself to protect her.
So, even though he hadnāt loved her back then, she must have still been the person in the world he couldnāt bear to part with.
"If Iām here, Iāll protect you without worries; if Iām not, the Black Family will protect you without worries," James patted Janeās head, "You can fearlessly do whatever makes you happy."
"Why bring all this up out of nowhere?" Jane looked up at James. "Iām so mischievous, can you really be at ease without keeping an eye on me?"
"Thatās true," James said softly with a laugh, then he said three words, "Monkey King of Sampton."
"Ah! Can we not mention those three words!" Jane exploded, "Iām so cute, how could I resemble a monkey? I clearly look more like a little fairy!"
Jane yanked her hand away from James and began walking briskly forward, leaving him several steps behind.
Her eyes, slightly turned upward to the sky, were slightly reddened.
Not wanting him to see her like this, she could only pretend to be upset and walk ahead of him.
Even though she didnāt know in which direction Brother Youngās tomb was, Jane still strode straight ahead on the main road.
