"You answer first." James Black didnât immediately explain to Jane Sampson, but waited for her answer.
Jane Sampson pouted, turned her head, and blurted out one sentence.
"Mr. Carter."
After saying that, she giggled to herself.
James Black choked, his face darkened, never expecting such an answer.
Marrying a wife, it seems, was just to have someone constantly infuriate him.
That answer completely blocked anything else he might have said.
Seeing Jane Sampsonâs unruly appearance, James Black just quieted down and stopped talking.
She was the one who needed comforting, yet she was also the one who was restless.
Jane Sampson waited for a while and, seeing that James Black wasnât talking, she sneakily glanced at him, and sure enough, he was there with a cold expression, gazing at her indifferently.
Meeting Jane Sampsonâs sneaky gaze, James Blackâs heart softened.
"Iâll give you another chance to answer," he said. "Think carefully before you answer. Three strikes and youâre out."
Jane Sampson sat up straight, hummed affirmatively, "Youâre important."
This answer cleared the gloomy expression on the manâs face instantly, and his hand flicked the brim of her hat, "How would you be if you werenât angry with me?"
Jane Sampson stuck out her tongue at James Black and made a goofy face, chuckling foolishly.
Then James Black said, "Youâve also noticed Jillian Carterâs feelings for me. Jillian is your Mr. Carterâs sister. If you donât want to put Mr. Carter in a difficult position, then Jillian might snatch me away. If Mr. Carter isnât troubled, youâd be unhappy without me. Since Iâm more important to you than Mr. Carter, whether he is troubled or happy doesnât matter to you anymore."
"Are you done?" Jane Sampson waited a few seconds for James Black to continue, then asked instinctively.
"Yeah," James Black replied.
Jane Sampson burst out laughing.
What kind of twisted logic was that?
James Black truly was the worst at comforting people in this world.
After his attempt at comfort, Jane Sampson didnât feel relieved at all.
Oh, wait.
Actually, her mood had improved a lot.
Seeing how James Black thought he had comforted her and was so earnest about it was truly amusing.
"James, you are mine, no one can take you away, not even Jillian Carter," Jane Sampson said. "And Mr. Carter is Jillianâs brother. I canât take him away either. So, Iâm just a bit disappointed, but Iâm not sad or unhappy. Itâs natural. I wonât dwell on minor issues."
Not everyone in the world has to love Jane Sampson.
Now that she had James, she truly felt content.
Besides, the goodness and help Mr. Carter had shown her were also etched in her heart, and couldnât be disregarded just because he favored his sister Jillian.
It was merely a matter of closeness.
Just like the question James Black had asked earlier.
Who was more important â James Black or James Carter? Without a doubt, it had to be James Black.
She could give up the chance to perform on stage with James Carter, her dream, for James Black. So, thatâs human nature.
James Black was speechlessly stunned.
But seeing Jane Sampson coming out of that emotional state on her own, he didnât say anything further.
He was simply worried because Jane valued every person who had ever been good to her.
Because of the disparity from them being good to suddenly not being good, James Black feared Jane might not be able to adjust quickly.
Just then, James Black also overlooked one thing.
