Chapter 743: Chapter 743: Is she from the Turner family bloodline?
Sir Turner replied calmly, âEven if she is related to me by blood, the gap between us spans four generations. A paternity test would not be entirely accurate, and I cannot be certain of which grandchild or child she is descended from.â
âMr. Caleb Mamet, I know you care about her, butâŠâ Sir Turnerâs expression turned cold, âPlease do not interfere in the Turner familyâs matters. Whether or not she truly belongs to our family is for me to decide, and whether or not she qualifies as an heir is also my decision.â
Caleb Mamet was silent for a moment, then curled his lips, âSir, you are correct. I have no right to meddle in the Turner familyâs affairs. However, Xaviera is my wife, and she doesnât know about her relationship with the Turner family. I hope you wonât harm her and do not in the future take her away without any notice.â
The butler frowned, âMr. Caleb Mamet, whether or not Miss Evans is a part of the Turner family, we will not harm her. Perhaps you are overly concerned.â
Caleb Mametâs eyes hardened, âI donât need to say much about what goes on within the Turner family. Everyone is well aware that family bonds hold little weight in your eyes, and it is the familyâs interests that matter most. If it werenât for your defiance of the natural order, generations of your descendants wouldnât be plagued by illness.â
His words struck a nerve with Sir Turner, who wouldnât have allowed his son to suffer from such a terrible disease if he hadnât been so cold-hearted back then.
Sir Turner looked displeased and did not reply. The butler stepped forward to explain, âMr. Caleb Mamet, you have misunderstood us. We have been very respectful to Miss Evans and have not mistreated her in any way.â
Caleb Mametâs expression softened somewhat, âSir, please ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the future.â
With that said, Caleb Mamet gave a slight nod to Sir Turner and turned to leave.
The butler tried to comfort him, âSir, donât take Mr. Caleb Mametâs words to heart. He is only worried for Miss Evans and has no malice. Besides, none of that could be blamed on you.â
âHeâs indeed no ordinary man for knowing the Turner familyâs secrets. His anger must be because heâs afraid Iâll do to Xaviera what I did before. He might try to limit my contact with her in the future.â
The butler looked sad, âThe mister doesnât blame you eitherâŠâ The âmisterâ he referred to was Sir Turnerâs son.
His words were meant to console Sir Turner, but it was impossible not to blame him. Sir Turnerâs son was now gravely ill, and his grandson had been missing for many years, leaving the elderly man to bear the burden of the Turner family.
Sir Turner sighed helplessly, âThereâs no point in regretting it now. What I should do is treat Xaviera better.â
The butler said helplessly, âTracy Swift is nothing more than a fool trying to make a name for herself. With Miss Evansâ talent and Mr. Caleb Mamet protecting her, she wonât suffer any losses. You donât need to get involved in this matter, and you might not know this, but the Elefelli Restaurant is in Miss Evansâ name.â
âIs that so! Iâve been worrying unnecessarily, then. I thought she would be bullied by that Swift girl.â Sir Turner finally relaxed.
Meanwhile, Xaviera and Caleb Mamet got into the car, and he immediately asked, âWhat did you talk about before I came?â
Xaviera thought for a moment and answered truthfully, âNot much, itâs just that Sir Turner heard about Tracy Swift apprenticing with Lester Bank and boasting about it in front of me.â
âAnd then they gave me a list of artists and told me to choose one to apprentice under. They also said they would hold a grand apprenticeship banquet for me. I donât think Sir Turner has any ill intentions â it seems like heâs just trying to stand up for me.â
Although Xaviera didnât understand why the elder would do such a thing, it was apparent that was the case, or perhaps he had ulterior motives that Xaviera did not know about.
Caleb Mamet wasnât interested in Tracy Swiftâs apprenticeship and instead asked, âAre there any painters you like on that list? Do you want to apprentice under any of them?â
Xaviera shook her head, âI donât think itâs necessary for me to apprentice anymore. Iâve been learning painting from my grandfather since I was little, and my style is already quite mature. Learning another style now would only make my work disjointed. Besides, my grandfather would be heartbroken if he knew I apprenticed under someone else.â
âWhat if Cold Night wanted to take you as his disciple?â Caleb Mamet asked lightly, seemingly unconcerned. In reality, however, his heart had already started to race.
After pondering for a moment, Xaviera said, âIt would be difficult to refuse Cold Nightâs offer to become his disciple, but Iâm afraid even studying under him wouldnât bring about any significant change.â
