Chapter 845 -845: Secret Mission
âHmm.â Quine Heninger said, âItâs inconvenient for the people from the Lingo Pavilion, but I guess youâre better off doing this task. Iâll send someone to assist you.â
âGet close to the wealthy businessman, Edith Bennett?â Xaviera Evans responded casually, âThat shouldnât be difficult. Thereâs no need for assistance, Iâll contact you when the task is done.â
Heninger reminded her, âWell, do be careful.â
Xaviera gave him a sweet smile, âDonât worry, big bro.â
Lingo Pavilion didnât often take on tasks, so there must be a special reason for her brother assigning her this job, especially when it involves controlling Edith Bennett.
Xaviera turned on her computer, logged into Black Tideâs account and looked up Edith Bennettâs information within the Star Organization. The information she found was limited, but anyone that her brother personally reminded her about, must be extraordinary.
...
With her slender fingers typing rapidly on the keyboard, the information appeared bit by bit, prompting a sneer hanging on Xavieraâs lips.
This man is really something!
âŠ
Two days later.
At 7pm, the charity event officially commenced. Two days ago, Xaviera had introduced herself to Bennett under the pseudonym âGladys Alfâ and was currently preparing her disguise in the bedroom, intending to fulfill the eventâs invitation together with him.
Suddenly, Steve Priceâs voice sounded from the outside, âMadame, what gown will you be wearing tonight?â
Xavieraâs lips twitched slightly, â???â
âThe CEO originally said he wouldnât attend this event, but he suddenly changed his mind this morning. I figured you would definitely attend too, so I came to ask what gown you planned on wearing so I can have it delivered.â
Xaviera paused, was Caleb Mamet also going? Caleb didnât like such occasions, heâd always made donations, but never attended in person. So why is he suddenly attending this time?
She had assumed Caleb wouldnât attend and that was why she agreed to her brotherâs request. But nowâŠ
Xavieraâs expression changed and she stiffened in her place.
This time, she would be attending the event as Edith Bennettâs companion. If Caleb found out, she would be in serious trouble.
Perhaps noticing her growing panic, Caleb, just by the door, gave her a slight smile. He then quietly stepped into the room and walked up to her, murmuring, âMrs. Mamet.â
Xaviera shivered, her heart skipping a beat.
The man leaned in, his hot breath fanning her ear. His magnetic voice softly ringing, âHave you decided on a gown yet?â
Xaviera looked at the catalog of gowns Steve Price handed over to her and hesitated.
âPick something you like, the makeup team will come to the house to help you prepare later. After youâre done, weâll leave together,â and Caleb said softly.
Xavieraâs heart pounded. What was she going to do?
âThereâs a sapphire necklace up for auction at the charity event. I remember you had a blue gown design that would go perfectly with it. Iâll bid for it as a gift for you, is it okay?â
His voice was soft, and his eyes filled with adoration, just like a clear pond that one couldnât help falling into.
Xaviera now regretted agreeing to her brotherâs task. Most frustrating was Edith Bennett, a man full of ill intentions, who still planned to cause a scene at the charity event.
After hesitating for a moment, she tried to say, âCaleb⊠I⊠I think maybe I wonât go today.â
Her voice grew softer and her confidence faded, causing her to lower her head.
Caleb looked at her, his eyes brimming with affection for her, his voice filled with humor, âAnd why is that?â
Xaviera trembled slightly, her heart pounding. She sensed his question had a deeper meaning, and if she didnât come up with a reasonable excuse, she wouldnât be able to leave today.
If Caleb knew that she was getting close to Edith Bennett, he would certainly take on her task. But how many eyes are currently on Caleb? If he were to get close to Bennett now, it would raise suspicions.
Xaviera racked her brain, what excuse would she give that would convince Caleb?
After a long silence, Xavieraâs eyes brightened. Soon after, she exclaimed, âI got a stomach ache and am not feeling well, I canât go.â
Calebâs gentle gaze shifted from her face to her belly, before breaking into a knowing smile, âIs that so? Then what about the gown at the doorâŠâ
âActually, I was intending to go with you, so I had a gown prepared. Unfortunately, my body is failing me, Iâm just too delicate!â
Xaviera giggled, âYes, thatâs right.â
Caleb didnât press her further but nodded, âOkay then, if youâre not feeling well, you should stay at home. Iâll go by myself.â
