Xaviera Evans slightly lifted her eyes, her stunning face veiled in shadow. She took a sip of fruit wine, her lips glossed with the sparkling liquid, adding an extra allure to her charism.

Yet Nidya Hughes didn’t find Xaviera stunning at all. Instead, she spoke grimly, “Still as impolite as ever. You don’t even know how to greet when you see me.”

Xaviera leaned leisurely on the couch, her tone indifferent, “I’m contemplating whether to address you as Mrs. Campbell or Mrs. Hughes?”

Her words felt like a heavy punch to Nidya’s heart. She was once the splendid Mrs. Campbell, but now Jeremy Campbell wanted a divorce from her. Although they hadn’t officially done the paperwork, their marriage was merely in name now. The title of Mrs. Campbell was blatant mockery to her.

“Xaviera! Is that how you talk to your mother? I despise your arrogant attitude. I would rather cherish and nurture my adopted daughter and niece, than waste a second on you!”

Nidya Hughes’ eyes bulged in anger and she pointed at Xaviera, shouting furiously, “Other people’s daughters are dutiful and understanding. Why must you be such a pain? If you tried to please me, said a few nice words, would I not dote on you? Don’t you yearn for a mother’s love since you’ve never had it growing up?”

Xaviera put down the wine glass and lazily leaned back on the sofa, her lips slightly parted, “How ironic, I don’t like you either, and there are plenty of people who have been good to me, I don’t need you.”

Nidya Hughes almost fainted with rage at these simple words. She glanced at the surrounding people, suppressed her anger, gritted her teeth and warned, “Listen here, you better stay silent today. Don’t spout nonsense in front of others. Now that Zora’s engagement to Mr. Caleb Mamet is settled, if you screw this up, I won’t let you off!”

Xaviera casually raised an eyebrow, her face full of disdain. She was still the legitimate wife, and Zora Hughes fancied marrying Caleb Mamet. It sure was a pipe dream!

Nidya Hughes’ fury reached a boiling point at her attitude and she scolded scornfully, “Look at you, do you think you’re worthy of Mr. Mamet? Moreover, this engagement was never yours to begin with. You stole it from Zora, and it’s about time you returned what you took.”

“Besides, since the news of the engagement got out, the Hughes family’s business has improved significantly. If you dare to sabotage, it equates to disloyalty towards the Hughes family, and it’s unfilial!”

Xaviera snorted coldly, “Are you out of your mind? What does the Hughes family have to do with me?”

Nidya Hughes was furious, her face twisted in anger, her flesh slightly quivering, she pointed at Xaviera and roared, “What are you saying! You are part of the Hughes family too! Zora is your cousin, she treats you so well, yet you want to steal her fiancé. How can you be so selfish!”

Xaviera had always wondered, how could the Hughes family have such thick skin? How could they tell such blatant lies? Zora treating her well? She rather wished her dead!

Suppressing her anger, Nidya Hughes said, “Anyways, if you still consider me your mother, you should behave today. You and Mr. Mamet are not suitable, you should just accept the divorce gracefully. Wait for me to find a more suitable man for you.”

Xaviera lifted her eyes and cast a doubtful glance at Nidya, laughing lightly, “Mrs. Hughes, why would you think I would want to recognize you as my mother?”

Nidya Hughes had thought she had fooled Xaviera, but Xaviera didn’t care at all. Hughes’ face turned red with anger, her tone menacing, “Xaviera! If you ruin this marriage, I won’t let you go!”

“Mrs. Hughes, you are a noble lady, how could you so lose your poise? Warn me? Do you have the right to do so?” Having finished her sentence, Xaviera got up to leave. Seeing the guests around, Nidya trembled with anger, swiftly followed Xaviera and tried to catch her.
