Chapter 1055: Chapter 1050: Fortune in Misfortune
Seeing everyone enjoy each bite with satisfaction, Alvin Swantz couldnât help but smile as well.
Rumors claimed he was eccentric, but the truth was that he disliked the deceitful ways of the world. People invited him to cook purely to show off, rather than enjoying the food itself. As a result, even the most delicious dishes lost their flavor in their mouths. However, he could tell that the Russell family genuinely enjoyed his dishes.
As a chef, seeing guests treat the food so earnestly could only make him feel happy.
He became friends with Steve Price because the latter was also simple. Steve was like a child without any cunning schemes, spoke whatever was on his mind, forthright, but also genuine.
Alvin Swantz noticed that Jerome Russell so enjoyed his dishes that he wanted to ask him whether he wanted to try some of his newly developed dishes.
However, before he could speak, he caught a glimpse of Xaviera Evans, who was frowning in pain as if she was suffering the cruelest fate.
Seeing Jeromeâs satisfied smile, she knew that the dishes must be delicious, but she could only smell a faint aroma without tasting any flavor. Not wanting to disturb everyoneâs meal, she decided not to eat anything.
But Alvin Swantz caught the pained look on her face and felt that his pride as a master chef was being challenged.
Xaviera was struggling to chew the meat in her mouth when she suddenly heard a chilling voice behind her: "Miss Evans, how does this dish taste?"
Xaviera looked up and saw Alvin Swantz. She didnât want to reveal her loss of taste to avoid concern, so she replied, "Very delicious."
Alvin Swantz frowned, "Are you sure?"
Xaviera didnât want to upset the eccentric master chef, so she replied bravely, "Yes, itâs really delicious."
However, the next second, Alvin Swantz snorted coldly, "Your agonized expression tells me that you are lying! Whatâs the matter? Donât you like my dishes?"
Xaviera suddenly became nervous. Her pain arose from watching everyone enjoying themselves, while she couldnât taste the flavors.
Before she could reply, Alvin Swantz spoke again: "You keep saying itâs delicious, but youâve hardly taken a few bites, and youâve been struggling to swallow. Are my dishes that terrible?"
Xaviera trembled, fearing that Alvin Swantz wouldnât let her take the food home, and hurriedly explained: "No, itâs not..."
"In my entire life, Iâve never met a guest like you!" Alvin Swantz said sternly before shouting, "I wonât allow this to happen! Iâll go home with you and make sure I cook a dish youâll enjoy!"
The room suddenly fell silent, and Xavieraâs panic-stricken expression froze. This was a blessing in disguise!
As expected, the master chef had an unusual temper. Most chefs would be upset if someone didnât like their dishes, but this master chef wouldnât stop until you were satisfied.
Ten minutes later, the door opened, and Caleb Mamet, wearing a grey trench coat, walked towards Xaviera. He looked serious, still pondering the conversation he just had with Felix Sabir.
Upon seeing Xaviera, Calebâs expression softened slightly. He nodded at the Russell family members, then sat down beside Xaviera.
When Xaviera saw Caleb, she instantly became excited and whispered to him, "Caleb, can you come outside with me for a moment?"
Calebâs eyes filled with confusion. What was Mrs. Mamet up to? Why was she acting so sneaky?
Xaviera glanced at the delicious dishes on the table and salivated. In front of everyone, she couldnât just hug Caleb and give him a kiss. That would be too embarrassing. So she wanted to take him outside for a quick kiss before returning to the meal.
"I... have something to tell you." Xaviera said shyly.
Caleb glanced at Alvin Swantz, who was not far away, and then at the mouthwatering dishes on the table. He instantly understood and teasingly said, "Mrs. Mamet, why donât you just tell me here?"
Xaviera looked at Jerome, who was devouring a chicken leg and sweating profusely, and stomped her foot impatiently, "No! It has to be outside! Just come with me!"
Caleb laughed heartily and gently patted her head, "Okay."
Jerome, still chewing on the meat, asked puzzled, "What are you going to do outside? Weâre all family here, just talk here!"
Julian Russell glanced at him, "Canât you even keep your mouth shut while eating?"
Xaviera excitedly pulled Caleb out of the room and into a deserted corner, looking around cautiously.
Seeing Mrs. Mametâs adorable behavior, Caleb couldnât help but smile, "Thereâs no one here, Mrs. Mamet. What do you want to say?"
