Chapter 1133: Chapter 1133: Can I Have Both?
Sir Drew cared much about his reputation, always maintaining the image of a great father. Therefore, he claimed that he couldnât bear to step into Caleb Manor again for fear of being reminded of his beloved daughter. He didnât allow anyone to disturb Winni Drewâs spirit, either. What did it mean for the Drew family to let Caleb live here now?
Xaviera sneered, "Mr. Drew surprisingly arranged for you to stay at Miss Drewâs former residence. It seems reasonable, and even if outsiders know youâre not staying at the main house, they wonât think the Drew family is mistreating you."
"But outsiders donât know the state of Caleb Manor now. The villa has been abandoned for twenty years, and Iâm afraid thereâs a thick layer of dust everywhere. There isnât even a clean bed or sofa. How can anyone live here?"
Caleb appeared indifferent, "This wasnât arranged by Sir Drew, but rather by Vivian Drew."
Xaviera nodded and understood, "Sir Drew is so shrewd. He wouldnât allow others to gossip. Years ago, he told everyone that because he missed Winni, he would never set foot in Caleb Manor again and sealed it off, forbidding anyone from entering. Now, twenty years later, the main gate is opened, revealing such a desolate and dilapidated interior. How can he explain this?"
"Vivian wants to deal with you using such a ridiculous method? She must be brainless."
Calebâs expression remained calm, "Of course, she isnât as smart as you. Letâs go in."
"Youâre really going to live here?" asked Xaviera, a little surprised, "Caleb, they left you in such a place, arenât you angry at all?"
Ignoring her question, Caleb led Xaviera to the door of Caleb Manor. At that moment, voices could be heard coming from the other side of the courtyard.
"I heard that the Mamet familyâs illegitimate child is also coming to the Drew familyâs cemetery. How humiliating!"
Another person replied, "What are you talking about? He has now proved his innocence and become Winni Drewâs son!"
"Who believes that? Everyone knows he has money, so forging a proof is easy for him, right? Winniâs son is only Boyd. How could that illegitimate child covet the position of the heir with Boyd? Even if heâs really part of the Drew family, if we donât acknowledge him, heâll never have access to the cemetery, never qualify to be the Drew familyâs heir!"
"I heard Aunt Vivian say that she wonât let him visit the ancestorâs grave!"
On the other side of the wall were the other villasâ courtyards, where a few of the Drew offshoots were gossiping. One of them asked, "Has the lord not woken up yet?"
"Yes! I heard he was poisoned, could it really be Calebâs doing? Heâs so cruel! Even poisoning his own grandfather?"
"Heâs always been ruthless, otherwise how could he have built the Mamet Corporation in just a decade? Mrs. Mamet even said that the Drew family tried to frame Caleb by deliberately spreading Sir Drewâs illness. It turns out to be Calebâs doing all along!"
Xaviera clenched her fists, itching to jump over the wall and beat them up.
With a soothing pat on her cheek, Caleb said calmly, "Letâs go into Caleb Manor first."
After saying that, they went into the courtyard. Xaviera thought it would be desolate and depressing, but upon opening the door, she found it clean and tidy.
The gazebo in the courtyard was well-kept, with a small floral tablecloth on the stone table and thick cushions on the chairs. The small garden was full of fresh flowers, and the villaâs interior was spotless, with a faint floral scent in the air, making one feel refreshed and carefree.
Xaviera was shocked, "Caleb, whatâs going on?"
"I anticipated that Vivian would arrange for us to stay here, so I sent someone to clean up in advance." Caleb casually mentioned, then added with a slight smile, "So, Mrs. Mamet, do you still prefer the main house?"
Xaviera looked at the villa before her. Miss Winni Drew had a talent for design; though the villa was small, it was exquisite and cozy. In comparison, the main house was grand but lacked the warmth of a home.
Moreover, many of the nauseating Drew family members lived in the main house, which would likely affect her mood if she stayed there. But if they moved out, she would still like to experience living in the main house.
After pondering for a while, she came to a conclusion, "I like both. Can I have both?"
Caleb couldnât help but laugh, gently embracing her and saying in a magnetic voice, "Yes, Xaviera, whatever you want, Iâll do my best to fulfill."
