Chapter 1295: Chapter 1295: Are You Doubting My Skills?
"Xaviera Evans was very clear, Fiona Reiser must be thinking that Joyce Jones was invited by Wayne Reiser, hence he would eventually take her side. On the surface, it did appear so. Also, Xaviera had heard Jones saying that he grew up in an orphanage and endured a lot of hardships. But, there was a family that donated to the orphanage, benefiting him.
And that family was the Reisers. If that was the case, Jones should feel thankful to the Reiser family. After all, he seemed like a grateful person but -
Xaviera chuckled meaningfully, âMiss Reiser, I never said Iâd back out. I just wanted to give you a heads-up.â
As soon as the words escaped her mouth, Jones had already picked up the small hammer. Fiona, her voice shaky with excitement, asked, âXaviera, what do you mean by that?â
Xaviera glanced at her, not saying a word, because soon Fiona would understand.
The hammer was raised high, all breaths were held and all eyes fell onto Xavieraâs necklace. They all thought that Jones was about to shatter Xavieraâs necklace as Miss Reiser wouldnât wear a counterfeit.
Bang-!!
A loud noise echoed as the ruby necklace shattered, Fionaâs smile freezing immediately.
Complete silence ensued, they couldnât believe their eyes; Fionaâs necklace was shattered by Jones!
Why would this happen?
When everyone was too shocked to speak, Xaviera broke the silence, âI just wanted to remind Miss Reiser that itâs quite embarrassing to have oneâs necklace shattered in public. So, I wanted to offer you a chance to back out, but too bad you didnât appreciate it.â
Following these words, Fionaâs face turned ghastly, as if she had swallowed a fly. Despite her years of pretence, she couldnât help feel angered at the sight of her painstakingly acquired ruby necklace shattered.
Everybody saw both women removing their necklaces. Xaviera placed hers on the left, Fiona on the right. The shattered necklace was the one on the right and this scene had happened before everyoneâs eyes. Xaviera had no chance to fake it, so Fionaâs necklace was a counterfeit.
A chorus of astonishment began echoing, turning the room boisterous.
âMr. Jones crushed Miss Reiserâs necklace, meaning she wore a fake!â
âMy God! I never thought the high and mighty Miss Reiser would wear a fake!â
Fionaâs face turned deathly pale, her body freezing cold and her breath almost halting. She looked at Jones with disbelief. Perhaps in Jonesâ eyes, there was no room for counterfeits, so it made sense to shatter her necklace, but shouldnât he have shattered Xavieraâs necklace too?
But after Jones crushed Fionaâs necklace, he handed the hammer to his assistant, ordered him to put it away, then leaned back in his chair, crossing his long legs, looking utterly relaxed. His actions already conveyed the final verdict to the crowd.
Fionaâs sharp nails have already embedded in her palm, the pain keeping her alert and rational. The daughters who were supporting her moments ago were now getting anxious, âNo! It canât be! Fiona, what is really happening? How could you wear a fake? Also, didnât you say your father gifted you this necklace?â
Rae was pale, recalling how she had just stood up for Fiona and ridiculed Xaviera, she nearly slapped herself in anger. However, she still didnât concede, and loudly argued, âMr. Jones, please take another look. Fiona is the Reiser familyâs daughter, she wouldnât wear a fake! On the other hand, this woman is merely the Hughes familyâs adopted daughter, and God knows where she got her fake from, she ...â
âAre you questioning my competence?â Jones glanced upwards, his eyes cold, scaring Rae into swallowing her words.
After a few seconds of silence, a hint of a cold huff escaped Jonesâ nose, âRubies are indeed not rare, but the rubies on Combustion Heart each are of exceptional worth, exceedingly rare. The rubies in a counterfeit are not as full-bodied, so fillers are used behind the gem, with the surrounding diamonds and platinum as camouflage. From afar, it is indeed hard to discern. You think I canât tell such shoddy workmanship?â
âImitating Combustion Heart, and yet only able to replicate the exterior without capturing the essence? Truly laughable.â
At these words, everyone inhaled sharply. Though they didnât understand gemstone appraisal, Jones had made it very clear, and no one would doubt his professionalism. And Jones was always impartial, there was no reason he would ruin his reputation for Miss Evans nor was there a need for him to offend the Reisers."
