Chapter 1298: Chapter 1298: Generosity of Others
Hearing Xaviera say she wanted to donate Combustion Heart, Rae could hardly contain her rage, and said sarcastically, "Although what Fiona is wearing is a fake, itâs still a token of affection from Mr. Wayne Reiser. He was just deceived, and the authenticity isnât that important. What matters is who gives the gift. We donât know where this necklace came from. Maybe you stole it, or maybe you cheated it!"
A snort of coldness spilled out of Xavieraâs nostrils.
"Fiona, am I right?" Rae proudly walked to Fiona, seeking credit. She was sure sheâd guessed correctly as that woman was not qualified to possess such a valuable necklace and must have obtained it through improper means.
She spoke emphatically, "Miss Evans, I suppose this necklace isnât even yours! Now youâre stubbornly donating it. How will you explain to the owner of the necklace afterward? Donating someone elseâs things, Iâve never seen anyone as shameless as you!"
Fionaâs lips were tightly drawn, and she shook her head helplessly. The contempt deepened in everyoneâs eyes, looking at Xaviera disgustingly.
If it were as Miss Reiser said, the necklace was not Xavieraâs but borrowed, then what right did she have to donate it? Taking advantage of others to save face, she was truly sickening.
Fiona said earnestly, "Xaviera, Combustion Heart is indeed too precious. You donât need to donate it for the sake of face. When donating, you should consider your own ability. Even if you donate cheaper items, no one will laugh at you."
Xaviera was almost impressed by Fionaâs pretentiousness, such a worthy opponent.
Rae immediately felt confident, "Fiona is right! I advise you to stop pretending. Donating other peopleâs things and then having them come after you later when you canât afford to pay for it will be embarrassing. We were trying to save you face earlier by not exposing you. Do you really think we believe you own such a valuable piece of jewelry?"
"Actually, saying that you borrowed it is giving you face. If you keep messing around, weâll tell the truth, and youâll have no face left to stay here."
As the words just fell, a burst of footsteps came from the doorway, followed by a cold masculine voice ringing through everyoneâs ears, "I would like to hear what this lady has to say about the truth."
The manâs voice was deep, containing a hint of ridicule and disdain. Everyone looked in the direction of the sound, only to see a tall, robust man in a tailored suit walking slowly with steady steps.
Getting closer, everyone could see his face clearly. He had a strong and handsome brow, deep brown eyes that were both deep and icy, and a high, erect nose. He was simply Godâs masterpiece. What was even more surprising was the noble and regal aura emanating from him, warm yet suffused with an unwelcome breath.
Most of the guests had never seen the man before, but they recognized the young man behind him as Caleb Mametâs personal assistant, Sean Price.
So, it seemed obvious who this man, so courteously followed by Sean Price, could be.
Everyone was stunned, but Rae felt a complex mix of fear, delight, and shock washing over her. Trembling, she tried to explain, "It was her who stole this necklace and boasted about donating it. I..."
Rae was too scared to finish her sentence. The room fell silent, and after a few seconds of quiet, Caleb chuckled.
This sudden laughter made Fionaâs heart clench, and it began to race vigorously.
What was Caleb going to do? Even if he adored Xaviera, he couldnât cause trouble at the Reiser familyâs charity dinner. Her father had been Calebâs teacher, so, past or present, Caleb owed him some respect. Moreover, Caleb and her brother had been good friends for years; he wouldnât do anything extreme!
Caleb looked at the crowd coldly, finally fixing his gaze on Xaviera. His eyes softened momentarily before turning sharp again when he looked at Fiona.
"She stole the necklace?" He suddenly spoke, his tone flat and unreadable, but Rae felt a cold air surrounding her, making it hard for her to even breathe.
Under the immense pressure of this man, she couldnât even utter a word. Before she could speak, she heard Calebâs icy voice, "Fiona, why donât you tell everyone who she really is?"
Fionaâs body suddenly stiffened, and a huge lump seemed to be stuck in her throat, making it difficult to breathe, "I..."
