Chapter 1344: Chapter 1344: Coming for a Woman
"Mr. Mamet!"
Just when Wesley Taylor was imagining how to torment Xaviera Evans, a servant hurried in, flustered and said, "Mr. Mamet, itâs bad. Mr. Novak is here!"
Wesleyâs body stiffened instantly, his eyes full of panic. Mrs. Taylor at his side also furrowed her brow.
After a moment of silence, Wesley stood up abruptly, looking somewhat aggrieved, "So what if heâs here? Does this lordâs favoring of a woman have anything to do with him? This lord is from the Brooke family--"
"Mr. Taylor."
Before Wesleyâs sentence was finished, a low, solemn voice interrupted, and a man stepped in. Standing tall, with gentle eyebrows and eyes, and handsome features.
He seemed in his early twenties, exuding a gentle aura. With a faint smile lingering at the corner of his lips, the gentle-looking man put people at ease.
But the next second, his eyes instantly turned ice-cold, and the smile on his lips became chilling.
Wesleyâs chubby body quivered slightly, he gathered his courage, "What...What brings you here?"
Mr. Novak slightly flashed his eyes, gracefully sat in the chair in front of Wesley, and commanded, "Mr. Taylor, I regret to inform you that from now on, you are not allowed to leave Brooke Castle for two months."
He looked up slightly, and even when sitting down, his aura still overwhelmed Wesley multiple times, "If Mr. Taylor disregards this advice, donât blame me for my lack of compassion."
Wesley was so scared he shuddered and fell back into his chair.
Mrs. Taylor was taken aback, but she still retorted calmly, "Mr. Novak, youâre just an outsider. Wesley is the young master of the Brooke family. What gives you the right to threaten him?"
Mr. Novak chuckled after hearing her words, "Mrs. Taylor, think about it, you and Mr. Taylor have tarnished the Brooke familyâs reputation, almost violating the law. The family head intervened to save you. Otherwise, do you think you could easily return to Yittaland?"
"What makes you think you can talk to me this way? Because of your status as Mrs. Brooke?"
Mrs. Taylorâs face turned pale, her lips trembling slightly.
Mr. Novakâs eyes flashed coldly. "Mrs. Taylor, you used 2 billion dollars to forcibly take a civilian girl, causing such embarrassment to the Brooke family. With so many foolish acts, in the end, the family head merely grounded you and Mr. Taylor for two months and suspended your position in the company. The family head still cares for past relationships, thus didnât kick you out of the family. But you donât seem to be happy with these leniencies."
Mrs. Taylorâs usually poised face showed a hint of fear. She argued loudly, "You must have said something to the family head! Thatâs why we were punished! We are the Brookes, and you are an outsider. Why should we listen to you?"
"I do not carry the surname Taylor or Brooke, but I control almost half of the Brooke familyâs power. I donât need to say anything to the family head. Even without the family head speaking up, I have the right and the ability to punish you."
Mr. Novakâs eyes swept coldly over the two, as if looking at a heap of garbage. He laughed lightly, got up and walked to the door.
Watching his tall figure leave, Mrs. Taylor was still unconvinced. "Didnât you only care about the company? Wesley has done so many things before, but weâve never seen you punish him. This time we just went to Libanan and took someone. Although it embarrassed the Brooke family, youâve never cared about that."
Through the years, there had been many cases of Wesley forcibly taking civilian women. He caused the death of those women, but the Brooke family always suppressed it. This man never cared, yet now he was grounding them and removing them from their positions over such a minor matter.
Mrs. Taylor was clear that the family head greatly admired Mr. Novak. Now the family head was getting old, and at this critical moment, he was stripping her of her position. Isnât he just trying to take sole control of the Brooke family?
Mr. Novak paused, turned slightly and smiled warmly, "Heh, Mrs. Taylor, youâre quite smart, and youâre correct."
Mrs. Taylor looked at his smile, terror sweeping through her body. She never wanted to make an enemy of Mr. Novak, but she couldnât understand what she did in Libanan this time that angered Mr. Novak.
He never cared about such minor matters, why would he personally come and warn them today?
While Mrs. Taylor racked her brain, a figure suddenly appeared in her mind. She tentatively spoke, "Are... are you doing this for that woman?"
Mr. Novakâs eyes flickered.
