Chapter 1413: Chapter 1413: The Elegant and Dignified Man
Wayne Reiser fell silent for a moment, his eyes held a hint of chilliness, yet his tone was gentle when he finally spoke, "Miss Evans, this painting was commissioned to Fiona Reiser to restore by someone else. We, the Reisers, can vouch for this. I wonder... how exactly did Fiona offend you? Why are you targeting her? Could it be... because of Caleb?"
His laughter had a trace of mockery, "Rest assured, Miss Evans, Fiona and Caleb are just friends."
Xaviera Evans sneered inwardly. Wayne Reiser, the cunning old fox, with just a few sentences, painted her as a jealous woman. It made the public believe that she was targeting Fiona out of jealousy for the childhood friendship between Fiona and Caleb.
She remained indifferent to public scrutiny and responded with a light smile, "Does Miss Reiser not want to admit it?"
Fiona Reiserâs eyes were filled with sadness, her lips tightly pressed together, "Xaviera..."
"Mr. Reiser." Xaviera Evansâs piercing gaze landed on Wayne Reiser, "Since Iâm saying this in public, it means Iâm sure Miss Reiser wasnât the one who restored this painting."
Wayne Reiser asked leisurely, "Then who do you think restored it, Miss Evans?"
"I did." The answer from Xaviera Evans was ice-cold. The moment she said this, the room fell silent.
Fionaâs face turned ashen. She had indeed guessed Xavieraâs identity, but it was difficult for her to accept it when Xaviera announced it publicly.
A brief flash of panic crossed Wayne Reiserâs eyes. He didnât initially want to pick a fight with Xaviera, but now that she had spilled the beans, he had no choice but to confront the issue.
Fiona had to be the Doctor of Faces!
Confusion reigned in Fionaâs mind, she stood in place, her mind a mess. It wasnât the first time she had assumed someone elseâs identity, but the others had either died or did not dare to challenge her because of the Reiser familyâs power. However, with Caleb backing her, Xaviera Evans had the courage to stand up to her.
Fiona looked downcast for a moment before a helpless smile crept on her face, "Xaviera, stop messing around. Everyone knows that Iâm the Doctor of Faces. Even if youâre envious of me, you shouldnât make such wild accusations!"
Xaviera cast a cold glance at her, "Since Miss Reiser claims to be the Doctor of Faces, then she should produce some evidence."
Fiona Reiser, panicking, knew that Xaviera had records of transactions from the exhibition, hence she dared to question her publicly. However, regarding the evidence...
She hesitated for a few seconds before replying, "The official invitation is the evidence, Xaviera. If you claim to be the Doctor of Faces, then why is the invitation with me?"
Xaviera rebutted without hesitation, "With the power of the Reiser family, wouldnât it be easy to intercept an invitation? Miss Reiser insists that sheâs the Doctor of Faces, and accuses me of slandering her. Yet, she canât produce any evidence. Since weâre both making claims, why donât we have a comparison?"
Fionaâs face turned pale, her emotions slipping out of control, her voice hoarse, "Why should I compete with you? I know you despise me just because Caleb and I are childhood friends, but thatâs all we are, friends. If you insist that Iâm not the Doctor of Faces, bring your evidence! You canât just slander me, Miss Evans. Youâre being too harsh!"
Wayne Reiserâs face also turned grim, "Miss Evans, even if youâre Calebâs wife, you shouldnât treat Fiona this way. Even though the Reiser family is not the same as it used to be, weâre still a wealthy family. How can I tolerate my daughter being slandered like this?"
The onlookers began echoing his sentiment, "Yes, Miss Evans, youâre targeting Miss Reiser intentionally. Enough is enough, donât disrupt the conference."
Xaviera Evans remained indifferent, but she did acknowledge that Fiona had a knack of manipulating people to her advantage. In just a short while, she had garnered a group of supporters who were speaking up for her.
Just as Xaviera was ready to retaliate, the surroundings suddenly fell silent. The crowd parted to make way for a tall figure standing at the entrance, silhouetted against the light.
The man was in a black coat, tall and well-built, a black mask covered his face, exposing only his narrow eyes and thin lips, exuding an aura of refined elegance.
The crowd exchanged puzzled glances. They knew this man must be of a special status but they had never seen him before. What surprised the crowd even more was that several of the veterans among the cultural relics experts all greeted him enthusiastically.
Seeing the newcomer, a reporterâs eyes lit up in recognition, "Mr. Twilight is here!" he exclaimed.
Boom! This announcement weighed heavily on the spectatorsâ hearts. They all turned to look at the man.
His narrow, sharp eyes scanned the crowd, his expression serene, with a hint of starlight hiding in his gaze that could unintentionally captivate anyone.
