Chapter 1470: Chapter 1470: If I Could Do It All Over Again
Jacob Powell stared blankly at where Xaviera had been standing, her words still ringing in his ears. He and his father had finally found his sister, but were they going to be separated again?
But he... he didnât mean to eliminate Xaviera from the competition. He only cared about Quinn and wanted her to live a fulfilling life within her lifetime. He didnât know Xaviera was participating in the competition, let alone becoming Quinnâs opponent.
If he could do it all over again, he would arrange for them to compete separately so they could both advance. After all, Xaviera was his sister, and of course he cared for her too.
Quinn hung her head, lips pressed tightly together. When Xaviera left earlier, she had glanced back at her with cold, piercing eyes that carried a heavy touch of mockery. This made Quinn feel uneasy.
What was Xaviera going to do? Was she going to expose what happened?
Actually, even if she did, Quinn wasnât afraid. She had already won two consecutive championships and gained public recognition. This time was just an accident â she hadnât been able to submit her work in time due to her poor health, and the judges let her advance out of sympathy, knowing her past victories. It was understandable!
With these thoughts, Quinn took a deep breath to calm her emotions and squeezed out a few tears. She looked at Robert Powell pitifully, "Dad, Iâm sorry. Itâs all my fault. Xaviera hates me because I participated in the perfume competition."
Robert sat helplessly on the couch without saying a word.
"Before she left, Xaviera gave me a fierce glare. Itâs all my fault. Donât blame Jacob; he was just trying to help me. From now on, I wonât participate in any competitions anymore. I wonât upset Xaviera again. Dad... please forgive me."
Quinnâs voice trembled, her face pale and eyes reddened. If this were any other time, Robert would have comforted her, but he was preoccupied with Xavieraâs words: If my mother were still here, she definitely wouldnât let me be wronged. Since youâve both forgotten about her and me, thereâs no point in keeping her picture around.
Robert felt frustrated and impatiently said, "Stop crying! Quinn, you were indeed wrong this time. You always think the worst of Xaviera, but she hasnât done anything to you. Instead, you hurt her. You didnât apologize and even tried to pit us against her. How did you become like this!"
Upon hearing this, Quinnâs crying abruptly stopped.
Jacob sighed helplessly, "Quinn, itâs my fault. I didnât consider Xavieraâs feelings. She was indeed wronged, and it was reasonable for her to advance. Iâll figure out a way for you to continue in the competition, so please stop crying."
Robert suddenly looked up, a hint of displeasure in his eyes, "Forget it. Quinn, you shouldnât participate in this competition. Find a time to apologize to Xaviera. Jacob, you should go with her. You shouldnât have done what you did. Remember, Xaviera is your real sister."
Dad, I can apologize, but Quinn..." Jacobâs face filled with unease. He knew how much Quinn loved perfumery, even staying up late to write perfume formulas despite her illness. To not let her compete would be too cruel.
Quinnâs body stiffened, and she choked out, "If I donât participate, then the Powell familyâs perfume company... "
"It doesnât matter! If Xaviera knew you continued to compete, she would be angry," Robert interrupted without hesitation.
Quinn shuddered, her breath seemingly caught.
She had been living in the Powell family for over a decade, and her father had never spoken harshly to her before. But now that Xaviera had returned, her father scolded her and even disregarded the companyâs interests for the sake of Xaviera!
Xaviera! Why did that bitch come back? She had stirred up trouble in the Powell family five years ago, and now she was back, even worse than before!
Quinnâs fingernails dug into her palm as she hid the resentment in her eyes. When Robert and Jacob left the room, she took out her phone and made a call.
As soon as the call connected, she began sobbing, "Grandma... I canât participate in the perfume competition anymore. But if I donât, the Powell familyâs perfume company will be affected and the family will lose a lot of money!"
"Itâs Xaviera who doesnât want me to compete. I know... Iâm just an adopted daughter, and I shouldnât compete with our sister. But I canât let the company lose money! Itâs all my fault, and I feel so sad! Xaviera just doesnât like me; she doesnât know the companyâs situation. Thatâs why she forced me to withdraw from the competition. Grandma... please donât be angry. Xaviera is still your granddaughter after all!"
