Chapter 1623: Chapter 1623: An Important Announcement to Make
"Since Miss Reiser likes Nanny Doreen so much, let Nanny Doreen go work at the Reiser family house." Xaviera asked with a smile, "Nanny Donne, itâs alright for Nanny Doreen to go to the Reiser family, right?"
Nanny Donne respectfully replied, "Madam, you are the patriarchâs wife, and you have the authority to make decisions for the Mamet family both inside and out. No one would oppose you even if you decided to cut ties with a long-standing ally, much less dismissing a servant. Sir Mamet would certainly not blame you for an old servant."
Upon hearing this, both Nanny Doreen and Fiona Reiserâs faces looked as if they had swallowed flies.
Xaviera said with a smile, "Then Nanny Doreen should go find the steward to get her salary. When Miss Reiser leaves, you can follow her back to the Reiser family. If Miss Reiser isnât willing to accept you, then I have to doubt that she was just trying to incite discord."
Fiona quickly refuted, "Xaviera, you canât say that. How could you make things difficult for an old servant like this? Doing it this way... "
"Doesnât Xaviera, as my wife, have the right to dismiss a servant?" A cold, gloomy voice came from outside the door, with a strong sense of oppression emanating from the man, scaring Nanny Doreen into lowering her head.
Fiona looked pale and tried to speak gently, "Caleb, you misunderstood. If Xaviera really dislikes Nanny Doreen so much, let her come back to the Reiser house with me."
Xaviera sneered inwardly, making it seem that she was petty, and Fiona acted magnanimous. But the next second, Caleb impatiently said, "Then hurry up and leave."
Fionaâs gentle expression paused for a moment, "I came to accompany Madam Mamet..."
"Nanny Donne, give Nanny Doreen her salary and let her leave with Miss Reiser," Caleb ordered coldly.
Fiona clenched her teeth, being silent for a few seconds before laughing helplessly, "Caleb, after all, my father is your mentor, and we are friends. Why are you targeting me?"
"There may be some grievances between me and Xaviera, but I have already apologized. This small matter shouldnât affect our relationship."
Xaviera looked speechless. Fionaâs implication was that she and Caleb had a deep connection that had been affected by her. It meant that she was too jealous and wouldnât allow her husband to interact with friends.
Caleb frowned in displeasure, "Knowing that my wife hates you, why would you still come to the Mamet family? Please leave, Miss Reiser!"
After saying that, Caleb took off his coat and carefully draped it over Xaviera, his voice incredibly gentle, "Itâs so cold outside, why did you wear so little?"
Seeing this scene, Fiona felt irritated. All girls love beauty, so she and Xaviera both wore thin, long skirts. The autumn wind blew, making them feel cold, but Caleb did not care about her and only cared about Xaviera, even putting a coat on her.
She had known Caleb for more than ten years. When he was at his lowest, the Reiser family had extended a helping hand. They were childhood friends, studying and playing together. But Caleb had never shown her this level of concern. In Calebâs eyes, was her childhood companion already a stranger?
Fiona suppressed her tumultuous emotions and said with a smile, "Caleb, Sir Mamet has already asked me to stay at the Mamet family."
Xaviera glanced coldly at Fiona and immediately saw through her ulterior motives.
So you want to stay at the Mamet family? Fine!
Calebâs eyes gradually became colder, and his irritation grew, about to burst out. But Xaviera spoke up, "Alright! Since grandfather said so, Miss Reiser can stay. Caleb, donât be angry!"
Fiona clenched her fists tightly, cursing the scheming woman who was driving a wedge between her and Caleb!
No sooner had the words fallen than the steward walked in. "Madam Mamet, Mr. Mamet! Sir Mamet has called everyone to the front hall for a meal tonight."
Madam Mametâs face immediately darkened. She didnât object to Fiona staying, but that was because Xaviera had spoken up. However, that didnât mean she was willing to have a meal with Fiona.
"We wonât go."
The steward looked troubled, "Madam Mamet, Sir Mamet said that thereâs an important announcement to make."
"What about Mr. Reiser?" Madam Mamet asked.
"He left a long time ago."
With a mocking expression, Madam Mamet understood Sir Mametâs intentions when she heard that Wayne Reiser had left, leaving Fiona behind, and announcing there was an important matter at hand.
"Fine, Iâll go, but whether I can make it through this meal is uncertain."
The steward gasped, fearfully saying, "Sir Mamet said Nanny Doreen is just a servant, Madam Mamet, donât let it upset you. If youâre unhappy, just send her away."
Madam Mamet didnât even glance at him. Did she need to ask that old foolâs permission to deal with a servant?
The steward broke into a cold sweat and quickly left.
