Chapter 1659: Chapter 1659: About Your Origin
"Lisa Hughes didnât tell you what exactly happened, but she accused Xaviera Evans of stealing a lotus bracelet. However, the bracelet Xaviera has was a gift from Mrs. Letitia Russell. Lisa made outrageous accusations at the Sullivan familyâs birthday banquet, offending Mrs. Sullivan, Caleb Mamet, and even Mrs. Letitia Russell. If I had sided with her, she would have had a hard time leaving the Sullivan residence today. Do you really wish to escalate things?"
"You should understand what kind of person Caleb Mamet is. If Lisa offended him, she might mysteriously die one day. How long do you think the Hughes family can protect Lisa?"
"I suggested that she should apologize to Xaviera, in order to settle things peacefully. Just because sheâs the daughter of the Hughes family doesnât mean she can create chaos without consequences. There are people in this world that she canât afford to mess with. Do you understand the consequences of causing trouble in Caleb Mametâs territory?"
Jeffrey Hughes spoke in a calm tone, which left his assistant astounded.
The young master was actually rebutting Madam Hughes for once, and his words were full of reason. It seemed the young master was finally standing up for himself!
"Jeffrey Hughes!" Ruby Russell roared.
"Grandmother, Iâm quite busy, so Iâll hang up now." Without any hesitation, Jeffrey Hughes hung up the phone.
The assistant curiously asked, "Young Master, why did you...?"
Jeffrey Hughes rubbed his tired eyes, "I think I have unearthed some secrets."
On the other side, the birthday party ended. Mrs. Russell and Xaviera walked to the entrance together. Mrs. Russell held Xavieraâs hand, speaking earnestly: "Xaviera, there are things you canât avoid. Sooner or later, you have to face them."
Xaviera understood Mrs. Russellâs implications. One day, she would have to confront the grievances between her and the Hughes family openly. Rather than hide, it was better to face it head-on.
"No matter what difficulties you encounter, you can come to see grandma at any time." After speaking, it seemed like Mrs. Russell remembered something, and suddenly asked: "By the way, you and Caleb have been married for a while now. When do you plan to hold a wedding ceremony?"
At these words, Caleb looked taken aback.
Wedding ceremony?
Was Mrs. Russell reminding him? He hadnât given Xaviera a wedding ceremony yet. It wasnât that he didnât want to, it was just that Xaviera had been waiting for the miracle doctor to return. Now that he was going to the Imperial City, it was time to start preparing for the wedding.
Xaviera also fell into thought, following Caleb into the car.
...
The following day.
When Caleb picked Xaviera up from school and just entered the house, Sam hurried over, "Missus Mamet, a gentleman has been waiting for you. Heâs been standing outside for two hours. I felt sorry for him and asked him to wait in the living room."
Xaviera paused. Who was in such a hurry to see her?
"Who is it?"
"He didnât give a name, he just said that you would recognize him. But Iâve never seen him before, so he doesnât seem like trouble." Sam had been at the Lowen Clubhouse for so many years and had seen many high-profile individuals from Libanan, so if he didnât recognize someone, it probably meant that the person wasnât from around here.
As Xaviera stepped into the living room, she couldnât help but raise an eyebrow: "Mr. Hughes?"
The man in the living room had a stern face, strong posture, and an aura of refined leisure. He didnât seem to be bothered by the fact that he had been kept waiting for over three hours.
Seeing Xaviera and Caleb walk in, Jeffrey Hughes slowly stood up, "Mrs. Mamet, Mr. Mamet."
"Please, sit down." After Xaviera spoke, she and Caleb sat down across from Jeffrey Hughes.
"Mr. Hughes, is there a reason for your visit today? If itâs regarding Lisa Hughes, then thereâs no point in having this conversation."
Jeffrey Hughes replied in a gentle tone, "No, itâs about you."
Caleb Mametâs eyes were slightly cold.
"About your lineage."
At these words, Xavieraâs pupils contracted abruptly.
Jeffrey Hughes got straight to the point, "From your reaction, Xaviera, you seem aware of your lineage. Your mother, Nina Hughes, was my aunt."
Xaviera put on an indifferent expression: "Oh... So youâre Zona Campbellâs son."
"Yes." Jeffrey Hughes confirmed calmly, "Iâm her actual child. Lisa Hughes is her adopted daughter and my fatherâs identity is unknown, so I took my motherâs surname, Hughes."
"Whatâs the point of telling me this?"
Jeffrey Hughes calmly stated, "Youâre Nina Hughesâ daughter and an heiress to the Hughes family. Your status is far more noble than Lisaâs. Would you like to return to the Hughes family?"
Xaviera curled her lips, "Is this Madam Hughesâ idea?"
"It is grandmotherâs idea," replied Jeffrey Hughes truthfully.
Xaviera looked perplexed. After all, Ruby Russell had once abandoned her own mother and appeared to hate her. So why was she suggesting Xaviera return to the Hughes family now with an heiressâs identity? And what would become of Lisa?
Ruby Russell spoils Lisa, right? Could she bear to see Lisa suffer?
"Iâm not willing to," Xaviera replied at her ease.
