Willie Novak seemed a bit surprised. After all, it was the powerful Brooke family. He had barely assumed the position of the heir when the head of the Brooke family favoured Caleb Mamet, even cleared obstacles for him. How could Caleb not be interested?

Caleb saw his astonishment and a chill appeared in his eyes. "You should know that the people trying to kill Xaviera were sent by the Brooke family. Do you think I could possibly cooperate with those who hurt her?"

Willie narrowed his eyes, staring straight at Caleb. Was he willing to relinquish the immense power of the Brooke family just because of Xaviera Evans?

After a long silence, Willie laughed casually. "No wonder Xaviera likes you. You are indeed more qualified to be with her than me."

Following this, an assistant carried a document to Caleb. "Mr. Mamet, if you sign this, you and the Brooke family will be detached from now onwards."

Without hesitating, Caleb took the pen and signed his name on it. Then he raised his eyes and asked, "Where is Xaviera?"

Ten minutes ago.

The young doctor walked over to Xaviera Evans, "Miss Evans, you’re not suited to cold breezes. Let’s go and wait in the cabin."

Xaviera glanced at the people on the deck, their negotiation seemed to be going well. Plus, she indeed felt cold, so she agreed to wait in the cabin.

Once they entered the cabin, the doctor suddenly laughed. "Miss Evans, I’m afraid you won’t be able to leave today."

As soon as his words finished, the maid and bodyguard collapsed to the ground. Xaviera backed up a few steps, tensed up, and looked at the doctor suspiciously, "What’s wrong with them?"

The doctor laughed ominously, "They’re merely unconscious, don’t worry. I know that you’re invulnerable to poison, so drugging you won’t work, but if you try to escape, I’ll vent my anger on them and kill them. You wouldn’t want to see so many innocent lives lost because of you."

Xaviera looked grim, "Aren’t you Mr. Novak’s man?"

"I never said I was."

"The head of the Brooke family?" Xaviera queried tentatively.

"Correct!" The doctor’s voice turned icy. "You seduced two of the chosen heirs and ruined his plans. The fact he hasn’t killed you yet is merciful. You just need to be obedient and meet the family head, and I won’t kill you. But if you don’t behave, I’ll eliminate you myself!"

Xaviera scoffed, "Kill me? Let’s see if you have the strength. Moreover, their lives can’t threaten me. They’re not related to me. I can’t abandon my chance of escape for them."

"Indeed you could be indifferent to everything; you still don’t know, do you? Caleb’s been poisoned!"

Xaviera’s eyes widened, her voice trembling, "What are you saying?"

"The head of the family has always been fond of Caleb as an heir, but he was not the only choice. Now, for your sake, he abandoned the opportunity to inherit the Brooke family. Thus, there’s no longer a need to keep him alive. Right now, the poison in Caleb has begun to act. He should be blind by now, but to save you, he forcibly suppressed the poison with powerful medication. However, the backlash he received is huge. It won’t be long before he becomes a blind man, or even loses his life."

"If it weren’t for you, Caleb could’ve led the Brooke family to the pinnacle. You ruined everything!" The doctor’s voice grew increasingly deranged, "You can’t rid Caleb of the poison, only the family head can!"

"If you leave with me now, Caleb will be forced to serve the Brooke family. He can live then. Seeing as he loves you so much, can you bear to watch him die?"

Before Xaviera could respond, the doctor burst into laughter, "Actually, whether you agree or not doesn’t matter. The head of the family is already on his way here, and all of Mr. Novak’s men have been drugged. Moreover, Caleb has only brought a few people over. You can’t get away!"

Xaviera’s heart suddenly sank, she hadn’t expected that Caleb had been poisoned but nevertheless, he was suppressing it to save her.

Her heart felt like it had been slashed open and a dull ache spread, this man truly loved her profoundly, yet she had doubted him!

"No good! We’ve been surrounded!"

"Caleb!"

The shouts from outside sent a shiver down Xaviera’s spine, the doctor smiled triumphantly, "They’re here."

Xaviera guessed that the head of the Brooke family wanted her for her blood. But once she falls into his clutches, it would be hard to escape.

By the time Willie and Caleb on the deck had realised something was amiss, they had already been surrounded by four boats. The people on the boats were armed to the teeth.
