Chapter 1316: Passing the Trial
Yi Tianyun carried Domain Lord Liuli while weaving nimbly through the masses of metal puppets, efficiently cutting them down or keeping them at bay. From the looks of it, everything was now manageable. Eventually, the Venerable Spirit, who had been watching, appeared to lose interest. The surrounding metal puppets began to soften into sand, no longer forming anew.
This meant heâd given up on making things any harder, since Yi Tianyun had shown that even the fiercest onslaught wouldnât really pressure them. With Yi Tianyunâs blazing speed and infinite sword protection, they were firmly out of danger.
Unless the Venerable Spirit drastically ramped up the offensive power, it would surpass the parameters of this trial, effectively cheating in his own domain.
Watching the metal puppets collapse, Yi Tianyun guessed the trial was nearly over.
âThe Venerable Spirit has stopped messing with us. Looks like weâve won.â
He flashed a grin, seeing no further threat. Though many of the puppets were dissolving, a basic amount still remained, just enough to replicate the standard testâs conditions. The difficulty reverted to its original state, which Domain Lord Liuli could handle herself.
Yi Tianyun at last set her down, no need to hold her the whole time. He was mindful of not overstepping boundaries between men and women; fortunately, she showed no displeasure, so he felt relieved.
At the same time, he didnât let himself idle, wielding ten thousand Rebirth grade divine swords, he repeatedly bombarded the larger metal constructs, especially those that had morphed from entire mountains. One blow after another shattered them entirely.
Domain Lord Liuli assumed Yi Tianyun might be venting his anger at the Venerable Spirit by slaughtering the metal puppets, but truly he was farming more experience and Crazy Points. Better to take advantage while he could.
With the month passing quickly, at the exact moment the time ended, the remaining metal puppets disintegrated all at once. Everything returned to normal, looking exactly as it did when they first arrived. A broad path opened up, leading to another gate of light.
âItâs done, letâs go.â
Yi Tianyun and Domain Lord Liuli approached and stepped through the portal, vanishing from that world altogether.
They reappeared in a wide, empty space, nothing but emptiness. the Venerable Spirit stood there, waiting.
âCongratulations on passing the trial. But under the rules, only youâ, he pointed at Domain Lord Liuli âare considered to have truly passed. Heâ, the Venerable Spirit gestured toward Yi Tianyun âwas just along for the ride, so it doesnât count as his trial completion.â
Yi Tianyun hadnât been an official participant this round; thus, no success credit for him.
âHere is your reward for passing,â the Venerable Spirit added, waving his hand so that three treasures floated before her. They were High-Grade Heavenly Dao level treasure, all of them exceptionally enticing.
After selecting her ideal treasure, Domain Lord Liuli listened as the Venerable Spirit continued,
âYou still have one last stage to clear. Overcome it, and youâll become a direct disciple. But this time,â, the Venerable Spirit glanced sternly at Yi Tianyun âhe cannot interfere. If he does, you will automatically fail.â
The Venerable Spirit was no longer confident that Yi Tianyun wouldnât meddle. He couldnât let Domain Lord Liuli be carried through another trial like a passenger.
âSenior Venerable Spirit,â Yi Tianyun said bluntly, âyou increased the difficulty before, didnât you?â
âCorrect, I raised the difficulty because you broke the rules.â the Venerable Spirit responded with a mild smile.
âBut you said it would be no problem even if I entered another space,â Yi Tianyun pressed, scowling.
âYes, no problem. That doesnât mean I canât raise the difficulty,â the Venerable Spirit retorted calmly, leaving Yi Tianyun no room to argue. After all, it was his domain.
Yi Tianyunâs brows knitted, but he didnât push further. Arguing with the man in total control of this tower was futile.
âHowever,â the Venerable Spirit went on, âthis was also my way of testing you. Thereâs no extra reward for it, but I can offer you an outstanding site to accelerate your absorption of Illusory Metal Power, faster by far than any other location.â
Domain Lord Liuli was also gradually accumulating Illusory Metal Power. As she passed each trial, the environment forced her to imbibe more. Now her body already contained a significant amount of it, though she showed no immediate ill effects.
âAlright,â Yi Tianyun agreed. âIâll go where you suggest.â
If he couldnât help her next time anyway, he might as well cultivate. If he fully mastered the third layer of his technique, he would become a direct disciple. That was his main goal.
âSister Liuli, work hard on the next stage,â he encouraged.
âNaturally,â she replied. âWeâll see if I become a direct disciple before you do.â
âI only need to perfect my technique. Could be pretty quick,â Yi Tianyun teased.
âIs that so? Then letâs see!â She laughed. âIf I make it first, you lose. If not, I lose.â
âSure thing, but whatâs the penalty for losing?â
âHavenât decided yet,â she said with a smile. âWeâll figure that out once we know who wins.â
With that, Domain Lord Liuli headed off for her final trial. She hadnât drained much energy in the last stage, thanks to Yi Tianyun, so she was ready at once.
After she departed, Yi Tianyun turned back to the Venerable Spirit:
âSenior Venerable Spirit, Iâm ready for that special spot you mentioned.â
The Venerable Spirit nodded. With a wave of his hand, a bright light enveloped Yi Tianyun, and he vanished. In the next instant, Yi Tianyun found himself standing in a flat, open area covered with gold sand, nothing else. But the Illusory Metal Power here was at least dozens of times thicker than any place heâd seen!

âNo wonder they call this place a special cultivation spot, its Illusory Metal Power is several dozen times more concentrated than anywhere else⊠Most importantly, thereâs an Illusory Metal Core down below!â
Yi Tianyun narrowed his eyes. With such intense concentration of power, it was obvious there was a metal core underground. A huge Illusory Metal Core, capable of supplying abundant energy, was the only explanation.
No wonder the Venerable Spirit claimed this was a superb environment. Now that heâd arrived, Yi Tianyun could confirm it was indeed the best place possible, a genuine Illusory Metal Core right underfoot.
Probing a bit, he sensed the core was extremely large and at least at the Fourth Grade level. That far outclassed any core heâd ever seen, most of which were First or Second Grade; at most, Third Grade. Finding a Fourth Grade Core was a first for him.
A Fourth Grade core wasnât necessarily massively bigger than a Third Grade one, just somewhat larger. The main difference lay in the quality and level of the energy inside, which could be many times higher.
âAn Illusory Metal Core⊠Looks like I can form another core in my body?â
Right now, Yi Tianyun has three planetary cores. If he added a fourth, why not choose metal over, say, thunder? So far, heâd failed to find the thunder core he needed. Here, though, he could absorb a metal-based one to reach three planetary cores anyway. All he had to do was put the thunder core on hold.
Even if he did continue to expand his thunder attribute, it wouldnât necessarily conflict with the metal energy, some energies worked in synergy, thus further boosting his combat ability.
At any rate, having only metal-based power to absorb, why waste the opportunity?
So without further ado, he began frenziedly drawing in the surrounding core energy, aiming to congeal a metal core within his body. The power here surged like a fountain, pouring rapidly into him and allowing him to construct a brand-new âIllusory Metal Core.â
Observing from nearby, the Venerable Spirit couldnât hide a hint of shock in his eyes.
âWhat a tremendous absorption rate⊠If he keeps going, heâll probably succeed without issueâŠâ
Staring down at Yi Tianyun as he meditated, a faint, cryptic smile appeared on the Venerable Spiritâs lips, hinting at some unknown plan.
Oblivious to the Venerable Spiritâs thoughts, Yi Tianyun only cared about pulling in as much Illusory Metal Power as possible to forge a metal-based core within himself. Once he had that, he could charge into the God Monarchs realm!
A single breakthrough from Heaven Monarchs to God Monarchs would let him crush half-step Heavenly Venerables. Against a Heavenly Venerable Expert, he could still put up a fight. And if he combined that with his unspent EXP for further level-ups, he could rocket into mid or even late God Monarchs, leading to absolute dominance.
Then he could revisit the Evil Spirit God Domain, stomping the Evil Spirit Domain Lord beneath his feet!
Under relentless absorption, his core swelled ever larger, the forming planet inside him growing bigger by the minute. It was like he was drawing out limitless energy from underground.
The Venerable Spirit had offered him this place for cultivation, so why hold back? He might as well drain it dry if possible. Though heâd briefly considered stealing the core itself, that would end in disaster, the Venerable Spirit was watching, and Yi Tianyun didnât have the confidence to escape with such a prize.
Instead, he kept madly extracting the power. As the core in his body expanded, layers of gleaming gold formed, golden clouds, golden mountains, a golden planet in his spiritual domain.
Everything followed the progression he desired. With enough time, heâd have a perfect third planet. Better still, his metal energy and water energy worked in harmony, bringing it all together smoothly.
After a few months, Yi Tianyun finally completed his third planetary core, a colossal golden planet, far larger than the two preceding ones. It stood out brilliantly.
This was largely because the Illusory Metal Power he was absorbing was Fourth Grade, far surpassing the one or two-grade cores heâd used before.
âFinally formed it. That was toughâŠâ
He spent these months focusing solely on condensing this planet, ignoring everything else, including the third layer of his new martial art. He needed to secure this core first.
âNow I can move on to the third layer. With a new metal planet, thatâs going to be easy.â
He flashed a grin. To cultivate the third layer of the Illusory Metal Divine Secret Art, you needed a metal-based constitution, he now had a metal planet. That far exceeded the bare requirement.
Lifting his head, he asked, âSenior Venerable Spirit, any word on how my friendâs trial is going? I assume you can tell me that much?â
Heâd been here several months, so he wondered whether Domain Lord Liuli had already passed.
âShe has not finished her trial,â the Venerable Spirit answered tersely.
âNot done yet? Then that last stage must be pretty tough,â Yi Tianyun remarked, hoping it wasnât too dangerous.
âRight, send me back to that stone tablet, please. I believe I can fully master it now.â
âCertainly.â
The Venerable Spiritâs eyes lit up, seemingly pleased by the prospect of Yi Tianyun mastering the technique. With a wave of his hand, Yi Tianyun vanished from the spot, and when his vision cleared, he found himself standing before the Illusory Metal Divine Secret Art stele. To properly learn it, he needed to be here.
Without hesitation, Yi Tianyun threw himself into meditating on the third layer, letting his Investigation Eye operate at maximum speed. Backed by his metal planet, his analysis soared. Within seconds, he had deciphered ten percent. Finishing the rest wouldnât take more than a day.
After just a few hours, Yi Tianyunâs eyes snapped open, firing two brilliant rays of golden light.
âIâve done it, the third layer is mine!â
He turned to the Venerable Spirit, saying, âSenior Venerable Spirit, Iâve succeeded in cultivating the third layer!â
âAlready?â
The Venerable Spirit stared, clearly startled. He had assumed Yi Tianyun would need far longer to reach that level, but here he was, finished in mere hours!
