Old LĂŒâs face instantly brightened after hearing Jiang Taoâs dinner invite.
He had just been pretending to be angry a moment ago.
"Alright, itâs settled then. Tomorrow evening at 6, Bai Gezhuang New Village District, Building 28, Apartment 1601."
"Forget it, tomorrow Iâll drive over myself to pick you and Aunt Ma up. Howâs that for sincerity?"
"Haha, kid, you learned the ropes fast! In that case, I wonât be politeâIâll wait at home with Xiao Mei for you to pick us up!"
LĂŒ Qian wasnât shy with Jiang Tao at all. If thereâs a free car ride, who would choose to grab a taxi!
"Sounds good! Itâs settled then. Iâll run upstairs to grab a couple things and get ready to head out. Rooster is great for health, eat as much as you can!"
Jiang Tao shot LĂŒ Qian a look only men would understand, then turned and walked in smiling.
"Damn brat, your brother has no idea why rooster is supposed to be so nourishing."
LĂŒ Qian laughed and cursed at Jiang Taoâs disappearing figure, getting back to his chicken.
Jiang Tao headed upstairs and unlocked the door to his rented room.
He pulled out a jar of Daughter Red Wine from under the bed, stuck it in a paper shopping bag, and headed back downstairs with it.
"Brother LĂŒ, Iâm really taking away this pickle jar, just so you know. Donât go regretting it."
Jiang Tao stopped in front of the pickle jar, cracking a joke to LĂŒ Qian.
LĂŒ Qian laughed and cursed, "Hurry up and get out with it, Iâm sick of seeing you."
"Thanks! I wonât be polite then."
Jiang Tao thanked LĂŒ Qian again, bent down, and lifted the pickle jar off the ground.
This thing looks pretty big, but since itâs hollow inside, it probably weighs only fifty or sixty pounds at most.
For a young guy like Jiang Tao, thatâs nothing.
He strutted down the narrow lanes of the city village carrying the pickle jar like he owned the place.
He drew plenty of curious glances along the way.
These old-style pickle jars are almost never seen nowadays.
Jiang Tao ignored all the staring and lugged the jar to where his car was parked.
He opened the trunk, carefully set the jar on an old curtain inside.
"Man, havenât done any manual labor in ages, and just this got me a bit tired."
Jiang Tao rubbed his shoulder, sore from carrying the jar, finally feeling some relief.
He pulled out his phone to check the timeâalready 6:10.
Less than two hours left till dinner with Du Enan.
Out here with everyone watching, Jiang Tao didnât want to fuss with the pickle jar too much.
He shut the trunk and drove back to Bai Gezhuang District to pick up Xu Li and the others.
On the way home, Jiang Tao called Xu Li and told her about Du Enan inviting them for dinner.
When Jiang Tao got home, Xu Li was still in the bedroom fretting over what to wear.
"Daddy~ youâre back! Mama says youâre taking us out for a fancy dinner tonight, right?"
Jiang Xue spotted Jiang Tao coming in, ran over and grabbed his big hand, eyes sparkling with excitement.
Jiang Tao reached out to ruffle Jiang Xueâs little head, saying:
"Yep, tonight Aunt Du is treating us, giving us a welcome dinner. When you see Aunt Du later, you have to remember your manners, okay?"
"Got it, got it! Teacher Jiang always tells us to be polite and behave."
"Mama said this Aunt Du is a big beauty, is that true, Daddy?"
"Sheâs pretty alright, but no oneâs as beautiful as your mom. Your momâs the prettiest woman for miles and miles."
Jiang Xue frowned, "Why does that sound kind of familiar?"
"Oh~ I remember now, thatâs Lady Shi Jiâs line from Nezha, right?"
"Mama, Mama, Daddy says youâre Lady Shi Ji from Nezha~"
Watching his little leakproof cotton jacket waddle off with her short legs to snitch on him, Old Jiang was speechless.
What good is this tiny traitor, really!
