Diana worked as quickly as she could, her hands glowing with healing energy as she hovered over the fallen student. His eyes had rolled back from the sheer intensity of the lightning strike.
The attack from the guild leader hadnāt been some minor jolt, it was a serious spell, packed with force. For a Six-Star Mage to unleash that kind of magic on a student... it was clear the line had been crossed.
Worse, the lingering nature of the lightning spell left an active charge hovering in the boyās body. Diana couldnāt fully heal him until the residual mana faded, meaning he was still being hurt, every second.
The entire scene left a heavy awkwardness between the two groups. The students stood silently, unsure how to act, their eyes darting between their injured classmate and the guild mages. They had to rely on their teachers now.
Redrickās hands had begun to heat with fury. He took a single, heavy step forward, eyes burning with rage, heading straight for Bronto.
But Luka extended an arm in front of him, stopping him in his tracks.
"What are you doing, Luka? He
attacked
one of our students!" Redrick growled through gritted teeth. "We canāt just let him get away with that!"
"Youāre not wrong," Luka replied calmly, "but what he said... there was truth in it. The student
was
speaking out of turn. And what Bronto said about the dimension, itās all accurate."
"That might be true," Redrick snapped, "but these are
students
. Theyāre here to
learn
. Theyāll make mistakes. That doesnāt give anyone the right to attack them like that."
His voice dropped to a bitter snarl. "Weāre their teachers, Luka. Itās our job to protect them, not just from beasts, but from
mages
who abuse their power and authority."
Lukaās arm stayed out, but his strength in holding Redrick back was starting to waver,
not
from lack of power, but from hesitation. Because deep down, he knew Redrick was right.
The principal had sent him along exactly for moments like this, just in case things got tense between the academy and the Underfang Guild.
"Redrick," a softer voice chimed in. Panla stepped up beside them. "This might be something we have to concede... for now."
She looked between both teachers and then to the students.
"You have to understand the position weāre in. Weāre inside
their
guild hall, under
their
jurisdiction. If we fight back, we wonāt win. And itās the students whoāll end up suffering for it."
She sighed, her tone turning bitter. "Youāre right. We are here for them. So letās not put them in more danger by letting this escalate further."
Panla was disappointed in herself. She shouldāve been watching closer, shouldāve acted faster. If she had, she might have been able to intercept Brontoās lightning strike with her own spell. But it had happened too fast, completely out of nowhere.
Among the students, another situation was unfolding.
Raze had grabbed Safaās arm, inspecting a faint red burn across her skin.
"You were hit?" Yolden asked, noticing the mark.
"It mustāve happened during the strike," Chiba said. "Lightning magic tends to spread. Even with full control, area discharge is hard to contain. Anyone nearby can get caught in it."
Piba stood nearby, watching Raze quietly. His head was down, hiding his face, but... there was something.
"Heās not happy," Piba said quietly.
"What did you say?" Yolden asked.
"Raze... heās upset."
They didnāt quite understand it, but Safa did.
It had been a long time since sheād felt this particular intensity from Raze, this
emotion
. But now, it radiated from him. It was undeniable.
"Raze... itās okay," Safa said softly. She began healing her own wound with magic, the burn already fading. Then, gently, she took his hand from her arm and held it in both of hers.
"Iām okay. Trust me."
But the others could hear it, Safaās voice was shaky, her calm exterior cracking ever so slightly.
Raze slowly raised his head, his eyes locking on Bronto.
And Bronto noticed.
The guild leader met his gaze... and smirked.
"Whatās the matter?" Bronto said, smugly. "Did I hit your girlfriend by accident? Tch... Iām just teaching all of you what could happen in there. Donāt look at me like that. That look, youāve got
no respect
, kid."
Raze didnāt answer. He didnāt blink. He just stared.
Before anything else could happen, Luka quickly stepped between them.
"Diana," he called out, "howās the student?"
"Heās stable now. He can stand," Diana replied, though she glanced at Safa. "Iād like her to do a quick pass on him before we go in, just to make sure heās ready for the assessment."
"Good. In that case, letās move," Luka said firmly. "No time to waste."
He turned to Redrick. "Go through the portal first. If we get the angriest one out of the way, we avoid further conflict."
Redrick grumbled but complied, disappearing into the shimmering dimensional gate.
Diana followed with the injured student, then the rest of the class began entering one by one.
At the rear of the group were the Underfang members, with Panla and Luka staying back to make sure everyone made it through safely.
Raze walked past them in silence. But as he moved, his eyes drifted to Bronto again, scowling without even realizing it.
Bronto noticed.
"What was that look?" he sneered. "I guess you brats didnāt learn your damn lesson after all."
He raised his hand, sparks dancing around his fingertips again. Panla spotted the charge immediately and prepared to cast a barrier, but the angle was bad. She wasnāt close enough.
"Iāll get your
damn girlfriend
if you care about her so much!" Bronto roared.
The spell launched.
Panlaās heart dropped,
it was going to hit Safa
.
But then...
A bare hand reached out.
The lightning bolt never made it. The moment it touched the hand, it was crushed, dispersed in a flash of raw mana that cracked outward like a shattered mirror.
Panla blinked in shock.
It was Raze.
His arm was outstretched. His hand still smoking with faint magical residue. And his eyes... locked on Bronto, burning with calm fury.
"...What did you just try to do?" Raze asked, his voice low and razor-sharp.
